1 All Israel was listed by their genealogies and they were written in the book of the kings of Israel. And those of Judah were carried away captive to Babylon because of their rebellion.
2 The first inhabitants who entered their possessions in the cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
3 They lived in Jerusalem from the children of Judah, from the children of Benjamin, from the children of Ephraim and Manasseh:

17 And the gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brothers. Shallum was chief.
18 Until now, these have been the gatekeepers among the divisions of the sons of Levi at the king’s gate that faces east.
19 Shallum son of Korah, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers the Korahites, through their father’s house, were in charge of the work of the service, guarding the gates of the tabernacle, just as their fathers guarded the entrance to the camp of the Lord.
20 Phinehas son of Eleazar was previously captain over them, and the Lord was with him.
21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the gate of the tent of meeting.
22All these men, chosen to be gatekeepers, numbered 212 when they were counted according to their clans in their villages. David and Samuel the seer appointed them to their duties.
23 So they and their sons were gatekeepers by their turns at the gates of the house of the Lord and of the tent of meeting.
24 The gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.
25 Their brothers who were in their villages came every seven days according to their turn to be with them.
26 For four chief Levite gatekeepers were in charge of the chambers and the treasuries of the house of God.

27 These men lived around the house of God, for they were responsible for guarding it and opening it every morning.
28 Some of them were in charge of the utensils for the ministry, which were brought in by number and taken out by number.
29 Others were in charge of the tableware and all the utensils of the sanctuary, the flour, the wine, the oil, the incense, and the spices.
30 Some of the priests’ sons made the fragrant incense.
31 Mattathias, one of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of the things made with pans.
32 Some of the sons of Kohath and their relatives were in charge of the bread of the Presence, which they arranged in order every Sabbath.
33 There were also singers, heads of families of the Levites, who lived in the chambers of the temple, exempt from other duties, because they were engaged in this work day and night.
34 These were heads of families of the Levites by their lineages, heads who lived in Jerusalem.
35 Jehiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon, whose wife’s name was Maacah.
36 His firstborn son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 Mikloth fathered Shimeam. These also lived in Jerusalem with their brothers opposite them.
39 Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, and Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

43 and Mosah fathered Binah, whose son was Rephaiah, whose son was Elasah, whose son was Azel.
44 And Azel had six sons, whose names are: Azrikam, Bocru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
1 The Philistines fought against Israel, and the Israelites fled before them and fell wounded on Mount Gilboa.
2 The Philistines pursued Saul and his sons, and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
3 As the battle raged against Saul, the archers overtook him, and he was wounded by the archers.
4 Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and mock me.” But his armor-bearer refused, for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell on it.
5 When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and was killed.
6 So Saul and his three sons died, and all his household died with him.
7 When all the Israelites living in the valley saw that they had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled, and the Philistines came and occupied them.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to plunder the slain, they found Saul and his sons lying on Mount Gilboa.
9 After they had stripped him, they took his head and his armor and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to tell their idols and the people.

10 They laid his armor in the temple of their gods and hung his head in the temple of Dagon.
11 When all the people of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 all the valiant men arose and took Saul’s body and the bodies of his sons and brought them to Jabesh. They buried their bones under an oak tree in Jabesh and fasted for seven days.
13 So Saul died for his transgression, which he committed against the Lord, against the word of the Lord, which he did not keep, and because he consulted a medium,
14 and did not inquire of the Lord; therefore he put him to death, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
1 Then all Israel gathered around David at Hebron and said, “We are your own flesh and blood.
2 In the past, even in the days of Saul, you were the one who led Israel out to war and brought them back. The Lord your God has also said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over my people Israel.’”
3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord. They anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord spoken through Samuel.
4 Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus), where the Jebusites lived.
5 The people of Jebus said to David, “You will not get in here.” But David captured the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David).
6 David had said, “Whoever strikes down the Jebusites first will be chief and commander.” So Joab son of Zeruiah went up first and became commander.
7 David lived in the stronghold, and that is why it was called the City of David.
8 He built up the city all around, from the Millo to the wall, while Joab repaired the rest of the city.
9 David grew stronger and stronger, for the Lord Almighty was with him.
10 These are the chief of the mighty men David had, who helped him in his kingdom, along with all Israel, to make him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord.
11 This is the number of the mighty men David had: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni, leader of the thirty, who once wielded his spear against three hundred men and killed them.
12 After him was Eleazar son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men.
13 He was with David at Pas-dammim, when the Philistines were gathered there for battle. Now there was a plot of land there full of barley, and when the people fled before the Philistines,
14 they stood in the middle of the plot and defended it, and they defeated the Philistines, for the Lord gave them a great victory.
15 Three of the thirty chief men went down to David at the rock in the cave of Adullam, while the Philistine camp was in the Valley of Rephaim.
16 David was then in the stronghold, and the Philistines were stationed in Bethlehem.
17 David longed for a drink and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”
18 So the three men broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate, and brought it to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the Lord and said,
19 May the Lord forbid that I should do this! Should I drink the blood and the life of these men, who risked their lives to bring it? And he would not drink it. This is what those three mighty men did.
20 Now Abishai, Joab’s brother, was commander of the Thirty. He drew his spear against three hundred men and killed them, and gained renown with the three.

21 He was the most illustrious of the thirty, and he was their leader, but he did not equal the first three.
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the son of a mighty man from Kabzeel, a man of great deeds; he killed two lions of Moab. He also went down into a pit and killed a lion in the snow.
23 He also killed an Egyptian, a man five cubits tall. The Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s beam, but Benaiah went down with a staff, snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.
24 These were the deeds of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he was named among the three mighty men.
25 He was the most distinguished of the thirty, but he did not equal the three. David put him on his personal guard.
26 The mighty men of the armies were Asahel, Joab’s brother, Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
27 Samoth Harodite, Heles Pelonite;
28 Ira the son of Iches the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,
29 Sibecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,
30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baana the Netophathite,
31 Ittai the son of Ribai, of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirattonite,
32 Hurai of the river Gaash, Abiel the Arbatite,
33 Azmavet the Barhumite, Eliaba the Saalbonite,
34 the sons of Hasem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Sage the Ararite,
35 Ahijam the son of Sachar the Ararite, Eliphal the son of Ur,
36 Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,
37 Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,
38 Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagrai,
39 Selec ammonite, Naharai beerotite, armor bearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,
40 Ira the Hittite, Gareb the Hittite,
41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,
42 Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, prince of the Reubenites, and with him thirty,
43 Hanan the son of Maacah, Jehoshaphat the Mitite,
44 Uzziah the Ashtarothite, Shammah and Jehiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite;
45 Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, a Tizite,
46 Eliel the Mahavite, Jerebai and Joshavia the sons of Elnaam, Itma the Moabite,
47 Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mesobaite.
1 These are the men who came to David at Ziklag while he was still confined because of Saul son of Kish. They were among the mighty warriors who helped him in the war.
2 They were armed with bows and could sling stones with both hands and shoot arrows with bows. These were the brothers of Saul from Benjamin:
3 Ahiezer the chief, then Joash, the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Peleth, the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah; Jehu the Anathothite;
4 Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty man among the thirty, and mightier than the thirty; Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad the Gederathite;
5 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah the Haruphite;
6 Elkanah, Isshiah, Azareel, Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;
7 and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham the Gedor.
8 Some of the Gadites also fled and went to David at his stronghold in the wilderness. They were mighty warriors, skilled with shield and buckler; their faces were like the faces of lions, and they moved like gazelles on the mountains.
9 Ezer was the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third,
10 Mishmana the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,
11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,
12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,
13 Jeremiah the tenth, and Machbanai the eleventh.
14 These were commanders of the army of the Gadites. The youngest was in charge of a hundred men, and the greatest of a thousand.
15 These crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks, and they put to flight all the people of the valleys to the east and to the west.
16 Some of the Benjamites and Judah also came to David at the stronghold.
17 David went out to them and said, “If you have come to me in peace and to help me, my heart will be united with you. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, even though there is no wrongdoing in my hands, may the God of our fathers see it and avenge it.”
18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, commander of the Thirty, and he said, “Peace be with you, David! Peace be with you, son of Jesse! Peace, peace be with you and with your helpers, for your God also helps you.” So David received them and made them commanders of his army.
19 Some of the men of Manasseh also defected to David when he went with the Philistines to battle against Saul. But David did not help them, because the Philistine commanders, after consulting with one another, sent him away, saying, “At the risk of our lives he will defect to his lord Saul.”
20 So when he came to Ziklag, some of the men of Manasseh defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediaiel, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Ziletai, commanders of thousands from Manasseh.
21These men helped David against the raiding party, for they were all valiant warriors and commanders in the army.
22 For then, help came to David every day until he became a great army, like the army of God.
23 This is the number of the leading men who were ready for war and came to David at Hebron to transfer the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord:
24 From the tribe of Judah, armed with shield and spear, 6,800 men ready for war.
25 From the tribe of Simeon, 7,100 men, valiant and mighty warriors.
26 From the tribe of Levi, 4,600 men;

27 Jehoiada, the leader of the descendants of Aaron, and with him 3,700;
28 Zadok, a valiant and courageous young man, with 22 of the leading men of his father’s house.
29 From the Benjamites, Saul’s brothers, 3,000; for until then many of them remained loyal to the house of Saul.
30 From the sons of Ephraim, 20,800 mighty warriors, men of renown in their ancestral houses.
31 From the half-tribe of Manasseh, 18,000, who were taken by roll call to come and make David king.
32 From the sons of Issachar, 200 leading men, men of understanding, who knew what Israel should do, and all their brethren followed their word.
33 From Zebulun, 50,000, ready for battle, with all kinds of weapons of war, prepared to fight with unwavering heart.
34 From Naphtali, 1,000 commanders, and with them 37,000 with shield and spear.
35 From the sons of Dan, ready for battle, 28,600.
36 From Asher, ready for battle and prepared to fight, 40,000.
37 From the other side of the Jordan, from the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, there were 120,000 men with all kinds of weapons of war.
38 All these men of war, ready for battle, came with one heart to Hebron to make David king over all Israel; likewise, all the rest of Israel were of one mind to make David king.
39 And they stayed there with David for three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had prepared food for them.
40 Also, their neighbors, as far as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali, brought provisions on donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen: a supply of flour, fig cakes, raisins, wine, and oil, and oxen and sheep in abundance, for there was joy in Israel.
1 Then David consulted with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and with all the leaders.
2 And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send word everywhere for our brothers who remain throughout the land of Israel, and for the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, so that they may join us.
3 And let us bring the ark of our God to us, for since the days of Saul we have not cared for it.”
4 And all the assembly said that it should be done so, for the thing seemed good to all the people.
5 Then David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hamath, to bring up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
6 David and all Israel went up to Baalah of Kiriath-jearim, which is in Judah, to bring up from there the ark of the Lord God, who dwells between the cherubim, whose name is called by his name.
7 They brought the ark of God from the house of Abinadab on a new cart, and Uzzah and Ahio drove the cart.
8 David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, with songs, harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.
9 But when they came to the threshing floor at Chidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled.
10 The anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had reached out his hand to the ark. And he died there before God.
11 And David was sorry, because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah; therefore he called that place Perez-uzzah to this day.

12 David was afraid of God that day and said, “How can I bring the ark of God into my house?”
13 So David did not bring the ark into his house in the City of David, but took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that he had.
1 Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs, masons, and carpenters to build him a house.
2 David realized that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom over his people Israel.
3 Then David also took wives in Jerusalem, and David fathered more sons and daughters.
4 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
7 Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went up to search for him. And when David heard of it, he went out against them.
9 The Philistines came and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.
10 Then David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.”
11 So they went up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, as water breaks through.” Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
12 They left their gods there, and David commanded that they be burned.
13 And the Philistines again spread out in the valley,

14 David inquired of God again, and God told him, “Do not go up after them, but circle around them, coming at them in front of the balsam trees.
15 As soon as you hear a sound coming from the tops of the balsam trees, go out at once to battle, for God will go out before you and strike down the Philistine army.”
16 So David did as God commanded him, and they defeated the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.
17 David’s fame spread throughout all those lands, and the Lord put the fear of David on all the nations.
1 David also built houses for himself in the City of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.
2 Then David said, “The ark of God must be carried only by the Levites, for the Lord has chosen them to carry the ark of the Lord and to minister to him forever.”
3 So David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the Lord to the place he had prepared for it.
4 David also gathered the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:
5 from the Kohathites, Uriel the chief, and his brothers, 120;
6 from the Merarites, Asaiah the chief, and his brothers, 220;
7 from the Gershonites, Joel the chief, and his brothers, 130;
8 from the Elizaphanites, Shemaiah the chief, and his brothers, 200;
9 from the Hebronites, Eliel the chief, and his brothers, 80.
10 Of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and his brothers, 112.
11 Then David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,
12 and said to them, “You who are the heads of the families of the Levites, consecrate yourselves, you and your brothers, and bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it.
13 For because you did not do so the first time, the Lord our God broke out against us, because we did not seek him according to his commands.”
14 So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel.
15 And the sons of the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded, according to the word of the Lord.
16 David also told the leaders of the Levites to appoint some of their brothers to play musical instruments, with harps, lyres, and cymbals, to sound out and raise their voices with joy.
17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; and from his brothers, Asaph son of Berechiah; and from the sons of Merari and their brothers, Ethan son of Kushaiah.
18 With them, their brothers of the second generation: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.
19 So Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, who were singers, sounded bronze cymbals.

20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah played harps on Alamoth.
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah had harps tuned to the octave to lead the singing.
22 Chenaniah, chief of the Levites in music, was appointed to lead the singing, for he was skilled in it.
23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers of the ark.
24 Shebaniah, Jehoshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew trumpets before the ark of God; Obed-edom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers of the ark.
25 So David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-edom with rejoicing.
26 And God helped the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
27 David was clothed in fine linen, as were all the Levites who carried the ark, and the singers; and Chenaniah was the director of song among the singers. David also wore a linen ephod.
28 Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord, with shouting and the sound of horns, trumpets, and cymbals, and to the sound of harps and lyres.
29 But when the ark of the covenant of the Lord came to the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked out of a window and saw King David leaping and dancing; and she despised him in her heart.
1 So they brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
2 When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.
3 Then he distributed to all Israel, both men and women, a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins.
4 He appointed Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to remember, to give thanks, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel:
5 Asaph was the first; Zechariah was the second; Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with their instruments—the harps and lyres—but Asaph played the cymbals.
6 The priests Benaiah and Jahaziel also continually blew the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.
7 Then on that day David began to praise the Lord through Asaph and his brothers:
8 Praise the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
9 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful deeds.
10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
11 Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face continually.
12 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
13 you children of Israel, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14 He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
15 He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations,
16 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
17 He established it as a statute to Jacob, and as an everlasting covenant to Israel,
18 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion and inheritance.”
19 When they were few in number, few and strangers in it,
20 wandering from nation to nation, from kingdom to people,
21 he allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings.
22 “Do not touch my anointed ones,” he said, “or harm my prophets.”
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.
24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
25 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.
28 Ascribe to the Lord, you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
29 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

30 Tremble before him, all the earth; the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved.
31 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
32 Let the sea resound, and all that fills it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them.
33 Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth.
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
35 Say, “Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.”
36 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said, “Amen,” and praised the Lord. The Levites in charge of the ark
37 He left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to minister continually before the ark, each on its appointed day;
38 and Obed-edom and his sixty-eight brothers, Obed-edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah as gatekeepers.
39 He also left Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place in Gibeon,
40 to offer burnt offerings continually morning and evening to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering, according to all that is written in the Law of the Lord, which he commanded Israel;
41 with them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of the chosen ones, identified by name, to glorify the Lord, for his mercy endures forever.
42 With them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those who played, and with other instruments of God’s music; He appointed the sons of Jeduthun as gatekeepers.
43 Then all the people went each to his house; and David returned to bless his house.
1 While David was staying at home, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Look, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a curtain.”
2 Nathan replied, “Do whatever is in your heart, for God is with you.”
3 That same night the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
4 “ Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to live in.
5 Since the day I brought the Israelites out of Israel, I have not lived in a house at all, but have moved from tent to tent, from dwelling to dwelling.
6 Wherever I have gone with all Israel, have I spoken to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying, “Why don’t you build me a house of cedar?”’”
7 Therefore, now you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people Israel.
8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make your name great, like the names of the great men of the earth.
9 Moreover, I have provided a place for my people Israel and have planted them there so that they may live in it and never again be disturbed. The wicked will no longer devour them as before,
10 since the time I appointed judges over my people Israel. But I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the Lord will build you a house.
11 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He will build me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.’
13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will not take my love from him, as I took it from him who was before you.
14 I will establish him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.
15 Nathan spoke to David according to all these words and all this vision.
16 Then King David went in and stood before the Lord and said, “Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?
17 And even this, O God, was not enough in your sight. You have spoken of your servant’s house for a long time to come and have regarded me as a man of high standing, O Lord God.
18 What more can David ask of you to glorify your servant? For you know your servant.
19 O Lord, for your servant’s sake and according to your own heart, you have done all this greatness, to make known all your great deeds.”

20 O Lord, there is no one like you, nor is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
21 And what people on earth are like your people Israel, whose God went and redeemed a people, to make a name for yourself through great deeds and wonders, driving out the nations before your people whom you redeemed from Egypt?
22 You have established your people Israel as your own forever; and you, O Lord, have become their God.
23 Now therefore, O Lord, let the word that you have spoken concerning your servant and his house be established forever, and do as you have said.
24 Let your name be established forever, and let it be said, “The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel.” And let the house of your servant David be established before you.
25 For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build him a house; therefore your servant has found cause to pray before you.
26 Now therefore, O LORD, you are the God who has spoken this good thing concerning your servant;
27 and now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, O LORD, have blessed it, and it shall be blessed forever.
1 After these things, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its surrounding villages from the Philistines.
2 He also defeated Moab, and the Moabites became David’s servants, bringing him gifts.
3 David also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah at Hamath, when Hadadezer went to establish his dominion by the Euphrates River.
4 David captured from him 1,000 chariots, 7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. David hamstrung all the chariot horses except for the 100 chariots he left behind.
5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to the aid of Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 of them.
6 David stationed garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Arameans became David’s servants, bringing him gifts, for the Lord gave David victory wherever he went.
7 David also took the gold shields that the servants of Hadadezer carried and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 David also took a great deal of bronze from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and bronze utensils.
9 When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
10 he sent Adoram his son to King David to greet him and bless him for having fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Toi was at war with Hadadezer. He also sent him all kinds of articles of gold, silver, and bronze,
11 which King David dedicated to the Lord, along with the silver and gold he had taken from all the nations of Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and the Amalekites.
12 Moreover, Abishai son of Zeruiah defeated eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
13 He stationed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became servants of David, for the Lord gave David victory wherever he went.

14 David reigned over all Israel, and he judged all his people with justice.
15 Joab son of Zeruiah was commander of the army, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was recorder.
16 Zadok son of Ahitub and Abimelech son of Abiathar were priests, and Shavsha was secretary.
17 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites; and the sons of David were the princes near the king.
1 After these things, Nahash king of the Ammonites died, and his son succeeded him as king.
2 David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, because his father also showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort Hanun concerning his father’s death. But when David’s servants arrived in the land of the Ammonites to comfort Hanun,
3 the Ammonite rulers said to Hanun, “Does David seem to be honoring your father, who has sent you comforters? Shouldn’t his servants rather be coming to you to spy out, investigate, and explore the land?”
4 Then Hanun took David’s servants, shaved their heads, cut off their garments in half at their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 When they departed, David received word concerning these men and sent to meet them, for they were greatly disgraced. The king ordered that they be told, “Stay in Jericho until your beards grow back, and then you may return.”
6 When the Ammonites realized they had become odious to David, Hanun and the Ammonites sent a thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, Syria, Maacah, and Zobah.
7 They hired thirty-two thousand chariots, the king of Maacah, and his army, who came and encamped before Medeba. The Ammonites also gathered from their cities and came to battle.
8 When David heard of it, he sent Joab with the whole army of mighty men.
9 The Ammonites marched out and drew up their battle lines at the entrance to the city, while the kings who had come stood apart in the field.
10 When Joab saw that the attack against him was set up from the front and the rear, he chose some of the best men in Israel and drew them up to fight against the Arameans.
11 He then put the rest of the army under the command of his brother Abishai, and he drew them up against the Ammonites.
12 He said, “If the Arameans are stronger than I am, you will help me; but if the Ammonites are stronger than you, I will help you.
13 Be strong, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. May the Lord do what seems good to him.”
14 Then Joab and the army with him drew near to fight against the Arameans, but they fled before him.

15 When the Ammonites saw that the Syrians had fled, they too fled before their brother Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem.
16 When the Syrians saw that they had fallen before Israel, they sent messengers and brought the Syrians who were on the other side of the Euphrates, whose commander was Zophak, the commander of Hadadezer’s army.
17 When David was told of this, he gathered all Israel, crossed the Jordan, and went to them and drew up his army for battle. When David had drawn up his army against them, the Syrians fought against him.
18 But the Syrian army fled before Israel, and David killed seven thousand chariot men and forty thousand foot soldiers of the Syrians; he also killed Zophak, the commander of the army.
19 When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they had fallen before Israel, they made peace with David and became his servants; and the Syrian army was no longer willing to help the Ammonites.
1 At the turn of the year, at the time when kings go out to war, Joab raised the army and destroyed the land of the Ammonites. He then came and besieged Rabbah. But David was in Jerusalem, and Joab attacked Rabbah and destroyed it.
2 David took the crown from the head of the king of Rabbah. He found it weighed a talent of gold and was adorned with precious stones, so he placed it on David’s head. He also carried off a great deal of plunder from the city.
3 He brought out the people who were in it and put them to work with saws, iron threshing sledges, and axes. David did the same to all the cities of the Ammonites. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
4 After this, war broke out against the Philistines at Gezer. Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the giants, and they were subdued.
5 War broke out against the Philistines again, and Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear shaft was like a weaver’s beam.
6 Again there was war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all. He was a descendant of the giants.
7 This man defied Israel, but Jonathan son of Shimeah, David’s brother, killed him.
8 These were descendants of the giants in Gath, who fell by the hand of David and his servants.

1 But Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.
2 So David said to Joab and the leaders of the people, “Go and census Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me the number of them, that I may know.”
3 But Joab said, “May the Lord add to his people a hundred times more, my lord the king! Are not all these my lord’s servants? Why should my lord seek this, which will bring sin upon Israel?”
4 But the king’s command prevailed over Joab. So Joab went out and traveled throughout all Israel, and returned to Jerusalem and gave David the census of the people.
5 There were in all Israel 1,100,000 men who drew the sword, and in Judah 470,000 men who drew the sword.
6 The Levites and the Benjamites were not counted among these, because Joab abhorred the king’s command.
7 This also displeased God, and he struck Israel.
8 Then David said to God, “I have sinned greatly in doing this. Please take away the guilt of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”
9 The Lord spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10 “ Go and tell David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options; choose one of them, and I will do it to you.’”
11 So Gad went to David and said, “This is what the Lord says:
12 ‘ Choose for yourself: three years of famine, or three months of being defeated before your enemies by the sword of your foes, or three days of the sword of the Lord (a plague) in the land, with the angel of the Lord destroying all the territory of Israel. Now then, decide what answer I shall give to him who sent me.’”
13 David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for his compassions are very great; but let it not fall into human hands.
14 So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel died.
15 Then the Lord sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was destroying it, the Lord looked and relented concerning the disaster, and said to the angel who was destroying it, “Enough! Stay your hand.” The angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders fell facedown, wearing sackcloth.
17And David said to God, “Was it not I who numbered the people? I am the one who sinned, and indeed I have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? O Lord my God, let your hand be against me and against my father’s house, but do not let the plague come upon your people.”
18 Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to tell David to go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 So David went up, according to the word that Gad had spoken to him in the name of the Lord.
20 And when Ornan turned around, he saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

21 When David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David; and coming out of the threshing floor, he bowed down to the ground before David.
22 Then David said to Ornan, “Give me this site of the threshing floor, so that I may build an altar to the Lord. Give it to me for its full price, so that the plague may be averted from the people. ”
23 Ornan replied to David, “Take it for yourself, and let my lord the king do as he pleases. I will also provide the oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges for wood, and the wheat for the grain offering; I will give it all.”
24 But King David said to Ornan, “No, I will surely buy it for its full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
25 So David paid Ornan six hundred shekels of gold for the site.
26 There David built an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on it. He called on the Lord, and the Lord answered him by fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
27 Then the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath.
28 When David saw that the Lord had answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he offered sacrifices there.
29 Now the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at that time on the high place at Gibeon;
30 but David could not go there to inquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the Lord.
1 And David said, “Here shall be the house of the Lord God, and here the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”
2 Then David commanded that the foreigners who were living in the land of Israel be assembled, and he appointed stonecutters from among them to hew stones for building the house of God.
3 David also provided a great quantity of iron for the nails for the doors and for the joints, and a great quantity of bronze beyond weight, and cedar wood beyond number.
4 For the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought David a great quantity of cedar wood.
5 And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, of renown and honor throughout all lands. Now therefore, I will make preparations for him.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.
6 Then David called his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel.
7 And David said to Solomon, “My son, it was in my heart to build a temple for the name of the Lord my God.”
8 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “You have shed much blood and waged great wars; you shall not build a house for my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth before me.
9 Behold, a son shall be born to you, and he shall be a man of peace, for I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. Therefore his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days.
10 He shall build a house for my name, and he shall be my son, and I shall be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.
11 Now therefore, my son, may the Lord be with you, and may you prosper, and build a house for the Lord your God, as he has promised concerning you.
12 May the Lord give you understanding and wisdom, so that when you govern Israel, you may keep the law of the Lord your God.
13 Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and decrees that the Lord commanded Moses for Israel.” Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or discouraged.
14 See, I have prepared with great effort for the house of the Lord 100,000 talents of gold, 1,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond measure, for it is very much. I have also prepared timber and stone, to which you will add.

15 You have with you many workers, stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and all kinds of skilled tradespeople.
16 There is no number of gold, silver, bronze, and iron. Arise, and get to work; and the Lord be with you.
17 David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon, saying,
18 “Is not the Lord your God with you, who has given you rest on every side? For he has delivered the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the Lord and before his people.
19 Now therefore, set your hearts and minds on seeking the Lord your God. Arise, and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house that is built for the name of the Lord.”
1 Now David was old and full of days, and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2 And he gathered together all the leading men of Israel, both the priests and the Levites.
3 The Levites thirty years old and upward were numbered, and their number, counted one by one, was thirty-eight thousand.
4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the Lord, and six thousand were to be governors and judges.
5 Moreover, four thousand were gatekeepers, and four thousand were to praise the Lord, said David, with the instruments that I had made for offering praise.
6 And David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
7 The sons of Gershon: Laadan and Shimei.
8 The sons of Laadan, three: Jehiel the first, then Zetham and Joel.
9 The sons of Shimei, three: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran. These were the heads of the families of Laadan.
10 The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11 Jahath was the firstborn, and Zina the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many children, so they were counted as one family.
12 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four in all.
13 The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. Aaron and his sons were set apart forever to be devoted to the most holy things, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister to him, and to bless in his name forever.
14 The sons of Moses the man of God were numbered among the tribe of Levi.
15 The sons of Moses were Gershon and Eliezer.
16 The son of Gershon was Shebuel the chief.
17 The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were many.
18 The son of Izhar was Shelomith the chief.
19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekaman the fourth.
20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Issiah the second.
21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22 Eleazar died without children, but he had daughters, and the sons of Kish, his relatives, took them as wives.
23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Edar, and Jeremoth, these three.
24 These are the sons of Levi in their ancestral houses, heads of families according to their census, counted by name, by their heads, from twenty years old and upward, who served in the service of the house of the Lord.

25 For David said, “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given peace to his people Israel, and he will dwell in Jerusalem forever.”
26 And the Levites will no longer have to carry the tabernacle and all the utensils for its service.
27 So, according to the last words of David, the number of the Levites twenty years old and upward was taken.
28 They were under the direction of the sons of Aaron to minister in the house of the Lord, in the courts, in the chambers, and in the purification of all that is holy, and in all the other work of the service of the house of God.
29 They were also responsible for the bread of the Presence, the fine flour for the sacrifice, the unleavened wafers, the baked bread, the roasted bread, and for all kinds of measurements and counts;
30 and to stand every morning and every evening to give thanks and praise to the Lord;
31 and to offer all the burnt offerings to the Lord on the Sabbaths, the New Moons, and the appointed feasts, according to their number and according to their ordinance, continually before the Lord;
32 and to have the care of the tabernacle of meeting, and the care of the sanctuary, under the orders of the sons of Aaron their brothers, in the service of the house of the LORD.
1 The sons of Aaron were also divided into groups. The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
2 But since Nadab and Abihu died before their father and had no sons, Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.
3 David, along with Zadok from the sons of Eleazar and Ahimelech from the sons of Ithamar, divided them up according to their divisions in the service.
4 Now there were more leading men among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar, and they divided them up as follows: From the sons of Eleazar, sixteen heads of ancestral houses; and from the sons of Ithamar, eight heads of ancestral houses.
5 They divided them among themselves by lot, for from the sons of Eleazar and from the sons of Ithamar there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of the house of God.
6 And the scribe Shemaiah son of Nethanel, of the Levites, wrote their names in the presence of the king and the princes, and before Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the priests and Levites, assigning by lot one fathers’ house for Eleazar, and another for Ithamar.

1 David and the commanders of the army also set apart for the ministry the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, to prophesy with harps, lyres, and cymbals. The number of these men, qualified for the work of their ministry, was:

31 Of the Hebronites, Jeriah was the leader of the Hebronites, distributed according to their clans by their families. In the fortieth year of David’s reign, they were registered, and mighty men of valor were found among them at Jazer of Gilead.
32 And his brothers, mighty men, numbered 2,700, heads of families, whom King David appointed over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, for all the work of God and the king’s business.
1 These were the leaders of the Israelites, heads of families, commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and officers who served the king in all matters concerning the divisions that came in and went out each month throughout the year, each division consisting of 24,000.

22And from Dan, Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the heads of the tribes of Israel.

23 David did not take a number from those who were twenty years old and under, because the Lord had said that he would multiply Israel like the stars of heaven.
24 Joab son of Zeruiah had begun to count, but he did not finish, for this reason a punishment came upon Israel, and so the number was not recorded in the chronicles of King David.
25 Azmaveth son of Adiel was in charge of the king’s treasuries; Jonathan son of Uzziah was in charge of the treasuries of the fields, the cities, the villages, and the towers.

31 and Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the sheep. All these were administrators of King David’s property.
32 Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a wise man, and a scribe; and Jehiel son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons.
33 Ahithophel was also a counselor to the king, and Hushai the Archite was a friend to the king.
34 After Ahithophel were Jehoiada son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king’s army.
1 David gathered all the leading men of Israel in Jerusalem: the heads of the tribes, the commanders of the divisions who served the king, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, the administrators of all the property and possessions of the king and his sons, and the officers and the mightiest and bravest of his men.
2 King David stood and said, “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I had intended to build a house in which to place the ark of the covenant of the Lord and a footstool for our God, and I had made everything ready for its construction.
3 But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war and have shed much blood.’
4 Nevertheless, the Lord, the God of Israel, chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah to be his leader, and from the house of Judah, my father’s family; And from among my father’s sons, he delighted in me and made me king over all Israel.
5 And of all my sons—for the Lord has given me many sons—he chose my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.
6 He said to me, “Your son Solomon will build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
7 I will establish his kingdom forever if he is careful to obey my commands and decrees, as he is doing this day.”
8 Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God, carefully observe all the commands of the Lord your God, so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance to your children after you forever.
9 And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind; For the Lord searches all hearts and understands every intent and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
10 See now, the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do it.
11 So David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its treasuries, its chambers, its upper rooms, and the house of the mercy seat.
12 He also gave him the plans for all the courts of the house of the Lord, for all the surrounding chambers, for the treasuries of the house of God, and for the treasuries of the consecrated things.
13 He also gave plans for the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for all the work of the service of the house of the Lord, and for all the articles used in the service of the house of the Lord.
14And he gave gold by weight for the gold things, for all the utensils of each service, and silver by weight for all the silver things, for all the utensils of each service.

15 Gold by weight for the gold lampstands and their lamps; gold by weight for each lampstand and its lamps; and for the silver lampstands, silver by weight for each lampstand and its lamps, according to the service of each lampstand.
16 He also gave gold by weight for the tables of the Presence, for each table; likewise, silver for the silver tables.
17 Pure gold was also given for the hooks, for the basins, for the cups, and for the bowls of gold; for each cup by weight; and for the silver bowls, by weight for each bowl.
18 Pure gold by weight was also given for the altar of incense and for the chariot of the golden cherubim, which with outstretched wings covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
19 All these things, David said, were revealed to me by the hand of the Lord, who made me understand all the details of the plan.
20 David also said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you; he will not leave you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.
21 Here are the divisions of the priests and Levites, for all the service of the house of God, who will be with you in all the work; likewise, all the willing and skilled workers for every kind of service, the officials, and all the people to carry out all your commands.”
1 Then King David said to all the assembly, “God has chosen my son Solomon, because he is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for this temple is not for man, but for the Lord God.
2 I have provided for the temple of my God with all my own resources: gold for the gold, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood; onyx stones, precious stones, black stones, stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and marble in abundance.
3 Moreover, because I have set my heart on the temple of my God, I have also provided for the temple of my God with my own treasure of gold and silver, in addition to all that I have provided for the temple of the sanctuary:
4 three thousand talents of gold from Ophir and seven thousand talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the temples;
5 So gold for the gold items, and silver for the silver items, and for all the work of the craftsmen. But who is willing to make a freewill offering to the Lord today?
6 Then the heads of families, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the administrators of the king’s estate, gave willingly.
7 They gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents and ten thousand drachmas of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and five thousand talents of iron.
8 And everyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord, into the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 And the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had given freely to the Lord.
10 King David was also overjoyed and blessed the Lord in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O Lord, God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting.
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head over all.
12 Wealth and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are strength and power, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we give thanks and praise to your glorious name.
14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from you, and of your own we have given you.”
15For we are strangers and sojourners before you, as were all our ancestors; our days on earth are like a shadow that does not endure.
16 O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it is yours.
17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity; therefore, with an upright heart I have willingly offered all this, and now I have seen with joy how willingly your people, who are gathered here today, have given to you.
18 O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep this desire in the hearts of your people forever, and direct their hearts to you.
19 Also give my son Solomon a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all things, and to build the house for which I have made preparations.

20 Then David said to all the congregation, “Now bless the Lord your God.” So all the congregation blessed the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and bowed down and worshiped before the Lord and the king.
21 They offered sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to the Lord the next day: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, a thousand lambs with their drink offerings, and many sacrifices from all Israel.
22 They ate and drank before the Lord that day with great joy. And they gave the kingship to Solomon, David’s son, a second time, and anointed him prince before the Lord, and Zadok priest.
23 Solomon sat as king on the throne of the Lord in place of his father David, and he prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
24 All the princes and mighty men, and all the sons of King David, paid homage to King Solomon.
25 And the Lord exalted Solomon exceedingly great in the sight of all Israel, and gave him such glory in his kingdom as no king before him had had in Israel.
26 So David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27 The time he reigned over Israel was forty years. He reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
28 He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor; and Solomon his son reigned in his place.
29 Now the acts of King David, first and last, are written in the book of the chronicles of Samuel the seer, in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet, and in the chronicles of Gad the seer,
30 with all that pertains to his reign, his power, and the times that passed over him, over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of those lands.
