1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the expatriates of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,
2 chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father in sanctification of the Spirit, to obey and be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has given us new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 to an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 who are kept by the power of God through faith, unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 In which you rejoice, although now for a little while, if necessary, you must be afflicted in various trials,
7 so that your faith may be put to the test, being much more precious than gold, which, although perishable, is proven with fire, be found in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed,
8 whom you love without having seen him, in whom, believing, although you do not now see him, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and glorious;
9 obtaining the end of your faith, which is the salvation of your souls.
10 The prophets who prophesied of the grace destined for you inquired and diligently inquired about this salvation,
11 searching what person and what time the Spirit of Christ who was in them indicated, which foretold the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would come after them.
12 To these it was revealed that not for themselves, but for us, they administered the things that are now announced to you by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven; things into which angels long to look.
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope completely for the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed;
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the desires you previously had while in your ignorance;
15 But, as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct;
16 for it is written: Be holy, for I am holy.
17 And if you call on him as Father who without partiality judges according to each person’s work, conduct yourselves in fear all the time of your pilgrimage;
18 knowing that you were rescued from your vain way of life, which you received from your fathers, not with corruptible things, such as gold or silver,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without spot and without spot,
20 now destined before the foundation of the world, but manifested in the last times for your sake,
21 and through whom you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope may be in God .
22 Having purified your souls by obedience to the truth, through the Spirit, for unfeigned brotherly love, love one another fervently, from a pure heart;
23 being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of imperishable, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.
24 For: All flesh is like grass, And all the glory of man is like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls;
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was announced to you through the gospel.
1 Therefore, putting away all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all detractions,
2 like newborn babies, desire the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,
3 if you have tasted kindness of the Lord.
4 Coming to him, a living stone, rejected by men, but chosen and precious to God,
5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house and a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 Therefore the Scripture also contains: Behold, I lay in Zion the chief cornerstone, chosen, precious; And whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.
7 To you therefore, who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, The stone that the builders rejected, Has become the head of the corner;
8 and: A stone of stumbling, and a rock that causes people to fall, because they stumble at the word, being disobedient; for which they were also destined.
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may proclaim the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;
10 you who once were not a people, but now are God’s people; that once you had not obtained mercy, but now you have obtained mercy.
11 Beloved, I beseech you as foreigners and pilgrims, to abstain from carnal desires that war against the soul,
12 keeping your way of life good among the Gentiles; so that in what they murmur against you as evildoers, they may glorify God on the day of visitation, considering your good works.
13 For the sake of the Lord submit yourselves to every human institution, whether to the king, as a superior,
14 or to the governors, as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do good.
15 For this is the will of God: that by doing good you silence the ignorance of foolish men;
16 as free, but not as those who have freedom as a pretext to do evil, but as servants of God.
17 Honor everyone. Love your brothers. Fear God. Honor the king.
18 Servants, be subject with all respect to your masters; not only the good and kind, but also the difficult to bear.
19 For this deserves approval, if anyone, because of conscience before God, suffers trouble by suffering unjustly.
20 For what glory is it, if you are buffeted for sinning and endure it? But if doing good you suffer and endure it, this is certainly approved before God.
21 For this is what you were called for; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, so that you may follow in his footsteps;
22 who committed no sin, nor was guile found in his mouth;
23 who when they cursed him, he did not respond with a curse; When he suffered, he did not threaten, but entrusted the cause to the one who judged justly;
24 who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we, being dead to sins, might live to righteousness; and by whose wounds you were healed.
25 For you were like sheep that went astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
1 Likewise you wives, be subject to your husbands; so that those also who do not believe the word may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives,
2 considering your chaste and respectful conduct.
3 Your attire should not be the external adornment of ostentatious hairstyles, gold ornaments or luxurious clothing,
4 but the internal adornment, that of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great esteem before God.
5 For this is how those holy women who trusted in God once adorned themselves, being subject to their husbands;
6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord; of whom you have become daughters, if you do good, without fearing any threat.
7 You husbands, likewise, live with them wisely, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel, and as joint heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
8 Finally, be all of one mind, compassionate, loving brotherly, merciful, friendly;
9 not returning evil for evil, nor a curse for a curse, but on the contrary, blessing, knowing that you were called to inherit a blessing.
10 For: He who wants to love life And see good days, Let him restrain his evil tongue, And let his lips speak no deceit;
11 Let him depart from evil, and do good; Look for peace and follow it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
13 And who is he who can harm you, if you follow good?
14 But also if you suffer anything for righteousness’ sake, blessed are you. Therefore do not be afraid for fear of them, nor be troubled,
15 but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be prepared to make a defense with meekness and reverence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you;
16 having a good conscience, so that when they murmur against you as evildoers, those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed.
17 For it is better that you suffer doing good, if the will of God so wills, than doing evil.
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
19 in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,
20 who once disobeyed, when once the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which few people, that is, eight were saved by water.
21 The baptism corresponding to this now saves us (not by putting away the filth of the flesh, but as the aspiration of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
22 who having ascended into heaven is at the right hand of God; and angels, authorities and powers are subject to him.
1 Since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same thought; For he who has suffered in the flesh has made an end of sin,
2 so as not to live the remaining time in the flesh according to the lusts of men, but according to the will of God.
3 The past time is enough to have done what pleases the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lust, drunkenness, orgies, dissipation and abominable idolatries.
4 It seems strange to these that you do not run with them in the same debauchery of dissolution, and they insult you;
5 but they will give an account to him who is prepared to judge the living and the dead.
6 For for this reason the gospel was also preached to the dead, that they might be judged in the flesh according to men, but live in the spirit according to God.
7 But the end of all things is drawing near; Be sober, therefore, and be vigilant in prayer.
8 And above all, have fervent love among yourselves; because love will cover a multitude of sins.
9 Welcome one another without murmuring.
10 Each one, according to the gift he has received, minister it to others, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 If anyone speaks, let him speak according to the words of God; If anyone ministers, let him minister according to the power that God gives, so that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as if some strange thing were happening to you,
13 but rejoice inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also rejoice at the revelation of his glory with great joy.
14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the glorious Spirit of God rests on you. Indeed, on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
15 Therefore, let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a meddler in other people’s affairs;
16 But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorify God for it.
17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
18 And: If the righteous man is saved with difficulty, where will the wicked and the sinner appear?
19 So that those who suffer according to the will of God, commend their souls to the faithful Creator, and do good.
1 I pray to the elders who are among you, I am also an elder with them, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:
2 Feed the flock of God that is among you, taking care of it, not by force, but voluntarily; not for dishonest gain, but with quick courage;
3 not as having dominion over those under your care, but as examples to the flock.
4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the incorruptible crown of glory.
5 Likewise, young men, be subject to the elders; and all, submissive to each other, clothe yourselves with humility; because: God resists the proud, And gives grace to the humble.
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you when the time comes;
7 casting all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.
8 Be sober, and be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walks around looking for someone to devour;
9 to which resist firm in faith, knowing that the same sufferings are being fulfilled in your brothers throughout the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who called us to his eternal glory in Jesus Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself perfect, establish, strengthen, and establish you.
11 To him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
12 Through Silvanus, whom I count as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, admonishing you, and testifying that this is the true grace of God, in which you stand.
13 The church that is in Babylon, chosen with you, and Mark my son, greet you.
14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be upon all of you who are in Jesus Christ. Amen.
