The old man to Gaius, the beloved, whom I love in truth.
Beloved, I wish that you may prosper in all things, and that you may be in health, just as your soul prospers.
For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, how you walk in the truth.
I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children walk in the truth.
Beloved, you conduct yourself faithfully when you render any service to your brothers, especially those you do not know,
who have borne witness to your love before the church; and you will do well to direct them as is worthy of their service to God, so that they continue their journey.
For they went out for the sake of His name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
We must therefore welcome such people, so that we may cooperate with the truth.
I have written to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to have first place among them, does not receive us.
For this reason, if I am, I will remember the works that he does, speaking evil words against us; and not content with these things, he does not receive the brothers, and he forbids those who want to receive them, and expels them from the church.
Beloved, do not imitate the bad, but the good. He who does good is from God; but whoever does evil, he has not seen God.
All bear witness to Demetrius, and even to the truth itself; and we also bear witness, and you know that our testimony is true.
I had many things to write to you, but I don’t want to write them to you with ink and pen,
because I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.
Peace be with you. Friends greet you. Greet your friends, each one in particular.
