Psalms 101-125

Psalms Chapter 101

promise to live righteously

1 I will sing of mercy and justice; to you, O Lord, I will sing praise.
2 I will understand the path of integrity when you come to me. I will walk in the integrity of my heart within my house.
3 I will set no wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of those who turn aside; none of them shall come near me.
4 A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know the wicked.
5 Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, I will destroy; I will not suffer the one who is haughty in his eyes and proud in heart.
6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the path of integrity, he shall minister to me.
7 No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who speaks lies shall stand before my eyes.
8 Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, to cut off from the city of the Lord all workers of iniquity.

Psalms Chapter 102

Prayer of an afflicted person

1 O Lord, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to you.
2 Do not hide your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline your ear to me; answer me quickly in the day when I call to you.
3 For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned like a burning coal.
4 My heart is stricken and withered like grass; therefore I forget to eat my bread.
5 Because of the sound of my groaning, my bones cling to my flesh.
6 I am like a pelican in the wilderness; I am like an owl in the desert;
7 I lie awake and am like a lonely bird on the housetop.
8 All day long my enemies taunt me; those who are enraged against me have conspired against me.
9 Therefore I eat ashes like bread, and mix my drink with tears,
10 because of your anger and your wrath; for you have lifted me up and cast me down.
11 My days are like a passing shadow, and I wither like grass.
12 But you, Lord, remain forever; your renown endures through all generations.
13 You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to have compassion on her, for the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants love her stones and have compassion on her dust.
15 Then the nations will fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.
17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute and not despise their plea.
18 This will be written for a future generation, that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord.
19 For he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed at the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and to set free those condemned to death.

21 To proclaim in Zion the name of the Lord, and his praise in Jerusalem,
22 when the peoples and kingdoms gather together to serve the Lord.
23 He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.
24 I said, “My God, do not cut me off in the prime of my life; your years endure throughout all generations.”
25 In the beginning you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them, and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same, and your years will have no end.
28 The children of your servants will live in safety, and their descendants will be established before you.

Psalms Chapter 103

Praise for God's blessings

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever.
10 He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love for those who fear him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
15 As for mortals, their days are like grass; they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children;

18 Those who keep his covenant, and those who remember his commandments to do them.
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
20 Bless the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
21 Bless the Lord, all you his hosts, you his ministers, who do his will.
22 Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul.

Psalms Chapter 104

God takes care of his creation

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
2 You wrap yourself in light as with a garment, you stretch out the heavens like a curtain,
3 you lay your chambers on the waters, you make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind,
4 you make winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.
5 You set the earth on its foundations, so that it can never be moved.
6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.
7 At your rebuke they fled, at the sound of your thunder they hastened.
8 The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place you appointed for them.
9 You set a boundary they cannot cross, they cannot cover the earth again.
10 You send forth springs into the valleys; They go among the mountains;
11 They give drink to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the air make their home by its banks; they sing among the branches.
13 From his chambers he waters the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of his works.
14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth,
15 wine that gladdens people’s hearts, oil that makes their faces shine, and bread that sustains their lives.
16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
17 There the birds make their nests; the stork makes its home in the cypress trees.
18 The high mountains are for the wild goats; the crags are burrows for the rabbits.
19 He made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its setting.
20 You bring darkness, and it is night; in it all the beasts of the forest prowl.
21 The young lions roar after their prey, seeking their food from God.
22 When the sun rises, they crouch down and lie down in their dens.
23 Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.
24 How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25 There is the vast and spacious sea, teeming with creatures beyond number, both large and small.

26 There the ships go about; there is Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.
27 All creatures look to you, to give them their food at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
29 When you hide your face, they are dismayed; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works.
32 He looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing praise to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34 May my meditation on him be pleasing, for I will rejoice in the Lord.
35 May sinners be consumed from the earth, and may the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, O my soul! Alleluia.

Psalms Chapter 105

Wonders of Jehovah in favor of Israel

1 Praise the Lord, call on his name; make known his deeds among the nations.
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
4 Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.
5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6 you descendants of Abraham his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7 He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
8 He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded for a thousand generations,
9 the covenant he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac.
10 He established it as a decree for Jacob, as an everlasting covenant for Israel,
11 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion and inheritance.”
12 When they were few in number, and strangers in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people,
14 He allowed no one to oppress them, and for their sake he rebuked kings.
15 “Do not touch my anointed ones,” he said, “or harm my prophets.”
16 He brought famine on the land and destroyed all the staff of bread.
17 He sent a man before them, Joseph, who had been sold as a slave.
18 They afflicted his feet with shackles; he was put in prison.
19 Until the time that his word was fulfilled, the word of the Lord tested him.
20 The king sent and released him; the ruler of the peoples let him go free.
21 He made him lord of his house and ruler over all his possessions,
22 to discipline his nobles as he wished and to teach his elders wisdom.
23 After this, Israel went into Egypt, and Jacob lived in the land of Ham.
24 He greatly increased his people and made them stronger than their enemies.
25 He turned their hearts to hate his people and to plot evil against his servants.
26 He sent his servant Moses and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27 He showed them the words of his signs and his wonders in the land of Ham.

28 He sent darkness that covered everything; they did not rebel against his word.
29 He turned their waters into blood and killed their fish.
30 Their land produced frogs, even in the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and swarms of flies came, and lice throughout their territory.
32 He gave them hail for rain and flames of fire in their land.
33 He destroyed their vines and fig trees and smashed the trees in their territory.
34 He spoke, and locusts came, and grasshoppers without number;
35 They ate all the vegetation in their land and devoured the produce of their soil.
36 He struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their strength.
37 He brought them out with silver and gold; and there was not a single sick person among their tribes.
38 Egypt was glad when they left, for the terror of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread out a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light by night.
40 They asked, and he brought quail; he satisfied them with bread from heaven.
41 He split the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river.
42 For he remembered his holy promise to his servant Abraham.
43 He brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.
44 He gave them the lands of the nations, and they inherited the labors of the peoples,
45 to keep his statutes and obey his laws. Praise the Lord.

Psalms Chapter 106

Israel's rebellion

1 Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can declare his praise?
3 Blessed are those who uphold justice, who do what is right at all times.
4 Remember me, Lord, according to your favor toward your people; visit me with your salvation,
5 that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, and glory in your inheritance.
6 We have sinned, as our ancestors did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.
7 Our ancestors in Egypt did not understand your wonders; they did not remember the abundance of your mercies, but rebelled at the sea, the Red Sea.
8 Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, to make his power known.
9 He rebuked the Red Sea and dried it up; he led them through the depths as through a desert.
10 He saved them from the hand of the enemy, and redeemed them from the hand of the adversary.
11 The waters covered their enemies; not one of them was left.
12 Then they believed his words and sang his praise.
13 They soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.
14 They indulged in a disordered desire in the wilderness; and they tested God in the desert.
15 And he gave them what they asked for, but sent a plague upon them.
16 They envied Moses in the camp, and Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.
17 Then the earth split open and swallowed Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
18 A fire was kindled in their assembly; the flame consumed the wicked.
19 They made a calf at Horeb; they bowed down to a molten image.
20 Thus they exchanged their glory for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They forgot the God of their salvation, who had done great things in Egypt,
22 wonders in the land of Ham, awesome deeds at the Red Sea.
23 He would have destroyed them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood before him to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
24 But they hated the pleasant land; they did not believe his word.
25 Instead, they grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore he raised his hand against them to strike them down in the wilderness,
27 to humiliate his people among the nations and scatter them throughout the countries.

28 They joined themselves to Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
29 They provoked God to anger with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas stood up and executed judgment, and the plague was stopped;

31 And it was credited to him as righteousness throughout all generations forever.
32 They also provoked him to anger at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses because of them,
33 for they provoked his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips.
34 They did not destroy the nations of which the Lord had promised them;
35 instead, they mingled with the nations and learned their ways.
36 They served their idols, and they were a stumbling block to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons,
38 and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood.
39 Thus they defiled themselves with their deeds and played the harlot with their practices.
40 Therefore the anger of the Lord burned against his people, and he abhorred his inheritance;
41 He handed them over to the nations, and their enemies ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed them, and they were crushed under their hand.
43 Many times he delivered them, but they rebelled against his counsel and were brought low by their own wickedness.
44 Yet he saw when they were in distress and heard their cry;
45 he remembered his covenant with them and relented according to the abundance of his mercies.
46 He also caused all who held them captive to have mercy on them.
47 Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.
48 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting; let all the people say, “Amen!” Hallelujah!

Psalms Chapter 107

God delivers from affliction

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so—those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 whom he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness, in the desert without a path, finding no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.
6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
7 He led them by a straight way, so that they might come to a city to dwell in.
8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9 for he satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good things.
10 Some sat in darkness and the shadow of death, bound with affliction and irons,
11 because they rebelled against the words of the Lord and despised the counsel of the Most High.
12 Therefore he broke their hearts with distress; they stumbled, and there was no one to help them.
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distresses;
14 he brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their chains.
15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
16 for he broke down gates of bronze and smashed bars of iron.
17 The foolish were afflicted because of their rebellious ways and their sins;
18 they loathed all food, and they drew near to the gates of death.
19 But they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
20 He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.
21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.
22 Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and tell of all his works with singing.
23 Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on the mighty waters,
24 have seen the works of the Lord, his wonders in the deep.
25 For he spoke and stirred up a stormy wind that lifted up the waves.
26 They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their souls melt away because of their troubles.
27 They reel and stagger like drunkards, and all their knowledge is useless.
28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

29 He stills the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea are calmed.
30 Then they are glad because they are quiet; he guides them to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.

32 Let them exalt him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33 He turns rivers into a desert, and springs of water into parched ground;
34 a fruitful land into a wasteland, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.
35 He makes the desert into pools of water, and the parched land into flowing springs.
36 There he settles the hungry, and they establish a city to live in.
37 They sow fields and plant vineyards, and they yield abundant fruit.
38 He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; he does not diminish their livestock.
39 Then they are diminished and brought low because of oppression, trouble, and distress.
40 He casts contempt on princes and makes them wander aimlessly, without direction.
41 He lifts the poor from their misery and makes families multiply like flocks of sheep.
42 Let the upright see it and be glad, and let all the wicked shut their mouths.
43 Who is wise enough to heed these things and understand the mercies of the Lord?

Psalms Chapter 108

Request for help against the enemy

1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music; this is my glory.
2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations.
4 For your mercy is higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.
6 Save with your right hand, that your beloved may be delivered; save me with your right hand and answer me.
7 God has said in his sanctuary: “I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem and measure the Valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the stronghold of my head; Judah is my lawgiver.
9 Moab is my washbasin; on Edom I throw my sandal; over Philistia I rejoice.”
10 Who will lead me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, O God, who have rejected us, and who do not go out, O God, with our armies?
12 Give us help against the adversary, for man’s help is worthless.
13 With God we will do valiantly, and he will tread down our enemies.

Psalms Chapter 109

Cry for revenge

1 O God of my praise, do not be silent;
2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful have been opened against me; they have spoken of me with a lying tongue.
3 With words of hatred they have surrounded me, and fought against me without cause.
4 In return for my love they have become adversaries to me; but I pray.
5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for love.
6 Set the wicked over him, and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty, and let his prayer be for sin.
8 Let his days be few; let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
10 Let his children wander about and beg; let them seek their bread far from their desolate homes.
11 Let the creditor seize all that he has, and let strangers plunder his labors.
12 Let him have no one to show him kindness, nor anyone to have compassion on his fatherless children.
13 Let his descendants be destroyed; In the second generation, may his name be blotted out.
14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord, and may the sin of his mother not be blotted out.
15 May they always be before the Lord, and may he cut off the memory of them from the earth,
16 because he did not remember to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy, the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
17 He loved cursing, and it came upon him; he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.
18 He clothed himself with cursing as with his garment; it entered his body like water, and like oil into his bones.
19 May it be like a garment he wears, and a belt he wears continually.
20 May this be the Lord’s recompense to those who slander me, and to those who speak evil against my soul.
21 But you, O Lord, my Lord, be gracious to me for your name’s sake; deliver me, for your mercy is good.
22 For I am afflicted and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I fade away like a shadow when it declines; I am shaken off like a locust.

24 My knees are weak from fasting, and my flesh is wasted from lack of fat.
25 I have become a reproach to them; they look at me and shake their heads in mockery.
26 Help me, O Lord my God; save me according to your mercy.
27 Let them know that this is your hand, that you, O Lord, have done this.
28 Let them curse, but you bless; let them rise up in shame, but let your servant rejoice.
29 Let those who accuse me be clothed with shame; let them be covered with disgrace as with a garment.
30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; in the midst of many I will praise him.
31 For he will stand at the right hand of the needy, to deliver their soul from those who judge them.

Psalms Chapter 110

Jehovah gives dominion to the king

1 The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
2 The Lord will send forth from Zion your mighty scepter; rule in the midst of your enemies.
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly on the day of your power, in the splendor of holiness. From the womb of the dawn, you will have the dew of your youth.
4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will judge between the nations and heap up the dead; he will crush heads in many lands.
7 He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head.

Psalms Chapter 111

God takes care of his people

1 I will praise the Lord with all my heart, in the assembly of the upright.
2 Great are the works of the Lord, sought by all who delight in them.
3 His work is glorious and beautiful, and his righteousness endures forever.
4 He has made his wonders memorable; the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
5 He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6 He has shown the power of his works to his people, giving them the inheritance of the nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established forever and ever, enacted in truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent redemption to his people; he has ordained his covenant forever; holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Psalms Chapter 112

Prosperity of the one who fears Jehovah

1 Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments.
2 His descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Light shines in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
5 The righteous man is generous and lends freely; he conducts his affairs with justice.
6 Surely he will never be shaken; the righteous will be remembered forever.
7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
8 His heart is secure; he will have no fears until he sees his desire fulfilled on his enemies.
9 He has freely scattered his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be exalted in glory.
10 The wicked will see it and be vexed; they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the desire of the wicked will perish.

Psalms Chapter 113

God raises up the poor

1 Praise the Lord, you servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.
2 Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.
3 From the rising of the sun to its setting, may the name of the Lord be praised.
4 The Lord is exalted above all nations, his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high,
6 who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?
7 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
8 to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.
9 He settles the barren woman in a home as a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!

Psalms Chapter 114

The wonders of the Exodus

1 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from the nation of foreigners,
2 Judah became his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw it and fled; the Jordan turned back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.
5 What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? And you, O Jordan, that you turned back?
6 O mountains, why did you skip like rams, and you, O hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a pool of water, and the flint into a fountain of water.

Psalms Chapter 115

God and idols

1 Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory, for your mercy and for your faithfulness.
2 Why should the nations say, “Where is their God now?”
3 Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.
5 They have mouths, but cannot speak; eyes, but cannot see;
6 they have ears, but cannot hear; noses, but cannot smell;
7 they have hands, but cannot feel; feet, but cannot walk; nor can they make a sound with their throats.
8 Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.
9 O Israel, trust in the Lord; he is your help and your shield.
10 House of Aaron, trust in the Lord; he is your help and your shield.
11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord; he is your help and your shield.
12 The Lord has remembered us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless those who fear the Lord, both small and great.
14 May the Lord increase your blessings, you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth he has given to mankind.
17 The dead do not praise the Lord, nor do any of those who go down into silence.
18 But we will praise the Lord from this time forth and forevermore. Hallelujah!

Psalms Chapter 116

Thanksgiving for having been delivered from death

1 I love the Lord, for he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The cords of death encompassed me; the anguish of the grave came upon me; I suffered distress and pain.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord: “O Lord, deliver me!”
5 The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord protects the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.
8 For you have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling,
9 that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
10 I believed; therefore I spoke, even though I was greatly afflicted.
11 In my alarm I said, “Everyone is a liar.”
12 What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me?
13 I will take up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
14 Now I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
16 O Lord, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant; you have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.
18 Now I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!

Psalms Chapter 117

Praise for the mercy of Jehovah

1 Praise the Lord, all nations; extol him, all peoples.
2 For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.

Psalms Chapter 118

Thanksgiving for the salvation received from Jehovah

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
2 Let Israel say: “His love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say: “His love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say: “His love endures forever.”
5 In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me and set me free.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
7 The Lord is on my side, my helper; therefore I will look in triumph on my enemies.
8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in humans.
9 It is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in princes.
10 All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
11 They surrounded me and surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
12 They surrounded me like bees; they blazed like burning thorns; But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
13 You pushed me hard so that I might fall, but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
15 Shouts of joy and salvation resound in the tents of the righteous: The Lord’s right hand does mighty things.
16 The Lord’s right hand is exalted; the Lord’s right hand does mighty things.
17 I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
18 The Lord has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous may enter through it.
21 I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me and have become my salvation.

22 The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
23 This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save us, we pray, O Lord; O Lord, we pray, grant us success.
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. From the house of the Lord we bless you.
27 The Lord is God, and he has given us light; bind the sacrifices with cords to the horns of the altar.
28 You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, I will exalt you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Psalms Chapter 119

Excellencies of the law of God

1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart;
3 for they do no wrong, they who walk in his ways.
4 You have commanded that your precepts be diligently kept.
5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in keeping your statutes!
6 Then I would not be ashamed, when I consider all your commandments.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart when I learn your righteous judgments.
8 I will keep your statutes; do not forsake me entirely.
9 How can a young person keep their way pure? By living according to your word.
10 I have sought you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commandments.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared all the judgments of your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies more than in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
17 Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commandments from me.
20 My soul yearns for your judgments at all times.
21 You rebuke the proud, the cursed, who stray from your commandments.
22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies.
23 Princes also sat and spoke against me; But your servant meditates on your statutes,
24 For your testimonies are my delight and my counselors.
25 My soul is laid low in the dust; revive me according to your word.
26 I have declared my ways to you, and you have answered me; teach me your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts, that I may meditate on your wonderful works.
28 My soul melts away for fear; sustain me according to your word.
29 Remove from me the way of falsehood, and in your mercy grant me your law.
30 I have chosen the way of truth; I have set your judgments before me.
31 I have clung to your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame.
32I will run in the path of your commandments, when you enlarge my heart.
33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I will keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart.
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments, for in it I delight.
36 Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to covetousness.
37 Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; revive me in your ways.
38 Confirm your word to your servant, who fears you.
39 Take away from me the reproach I dread, for your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I long for your commandments; revive me in your righteousness.
41 Let your mercy come to me, O Lord, your salvation according to your word.
42 Then I will answer those who scorn me, for I have put my trust in your word.
43 Do not take the word of truth from my mouth at any time, for I put my hope in your judgments.
44 I will keep your law continually, forever and ever.
45 I will walk in liberty, for I have sought your precepts.
46 I will speak of your testimonies before kings, and I will not be ashamed.
47 I will rejoice in your commandments, which I love.
48 I will also lift up my hands to your commandments, which I love, and meditate on your statutes.
49 Remember the word given to your servant, in which you have made me hope.
50 It is my comfort in my affliction, for your word has given me life.
51 The proud have greatly mocked me, but I have not departed from your law.
52 I remembered, O Lord, your former judgments, and I was comforted.
53 Horror seized me because of the wicked who forsake your law.
54 Your statutes were like songs to me in the house where I was a stranger.
55 I remembered your name in the night, O Lord, and kept your law.
56 These blessings I received because I kept your commandments.
57 The Lord is my portion; I have said that I will keep your words.
58 I sought your presence with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your word.
59 I considered my ways and turned my feet to your testimonies.
60 I hastened and did not delay to keep your commandments.
61 Covenants of the wicked surrounded me, but I did not forget your law.
62 At midnight I rise to give thanks to you for your righteous judgments.
63I am a companion of all who fear you and keep your commandments.
64 The earth is full of your mercy, O Lord; teach me your statutes.
65 You have dealt well with your servant, O Lord, according to your word.
66 Teach me good judgment and wisdom, for I have believed your commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I keep your word.
68 You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.
69 The proud have forged lies against me, but I will keep your commandments with all my heart.
70 Their heart is as fat as grease, but I rejoice in your law.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.
72 The law from your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.
73 Your hands made me and formed me; Give me understanding, and I will learn your commands.
74 Those who fear you will see me and be glad, for I have put my hope in your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that your judgments are right, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
76 Let your mercy now comfort me, according to your promise to your servant.
77 Let your mercies come to me, that I may live, for your law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be put to shame, for they have slandered me without cause; but I will meditate on your commands.
79 Let those who fear you turn to me, those who know your testimonies.
80 Let my heart be blameless in your statutes, so that I may not be put to shame.
81 My soul faints for your salvation, but I put my hope in your word.
82 My eyes fail for your word, saying, “When will you comfort me?”
83 For I am like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I have not forgotten your statutes.
84 How long will your servant live? When will you judge my persecutors?
85 The proud have dug pits for me, yet they do not follow your law.
86 All your commands are true; they persecute me without cause; help me!
87 They have almost cast me to the ground, yet I have not forsaken your commands.
88 Revive me according to your mercy, and I will keep the testimonies of your mouth. Lamed
89 Forever, O Lord, your word is settled in heaven.
90 Your faithfulness endures through all generations; you established the earth, and it stands firm.
91 By your commands all things stand to this day, for all things serve you.
92If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
93 I will never forget your commandments, for by them you have given me life.
94 I am yours; save me, for I have sought your commandments.
95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I will consider your testimonies.

tretas

96 I have seen the end of all perfection; Your commandment is exceedingly broad. Mem
97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all day long.
98 Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I have kept Your commandments.
101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way, that I might obey Your word.
102 I have not departed from Your judgments, for You have taught me.
103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Nun
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

106 I swore and confirmed that I would keep your righteous judgments.
107 I am greatly afflicted; revive me, O Lord, according to your word.
108 Accept, O Lord, the freewill offerings of my mouth, and teach me your judgments.
109 My life is continually in danger, yet I have not forgotten your law.
110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your commandments.
111 I have taken your testimonies as my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
112 I have inclined my heart to keep your statutes continually, to the end.
113 I hate hypocritical men, but I love your law.
114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.
115 Depart from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commandments of my God.
116 Sustain me according to your word, and I will live; I will not be ashamed of my hope.
117 Uphold me, and I will be saved, and I will always rejoice in your statutes.
118 You have trampled underfoot all who stray from your statutes, for their craftiness is falsehood.
119 You have consumed all the wicked of the earth like dross; therefore I love your testimonies.
120 My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.
121 I have done what is just and right; do not abandon me to my oppressors.
122 Establish your servant for good; do not let the proud oppress me.
123 My eyes fail for your salvation, and for the word of your righteousness.
124 Deal with your servant according to your mercy, and teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant; give me understanding to know your testimonies.
126 It is time to act, O Lord, for they have broken your law.
127 Therefore I love your commandments more than gold, even pure gold.
128 Therefore I consider all your precepts concerning all things to be right, and I hate every false way.
129 Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
131 I opened my mouth and sighed, for I longed for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do on those who love your name.
133 Direct my steps according to your word, and let no sin have dominion over me.
134 Deliver me from the violence of men, and I will keep your commandments.
135Let your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes.
136 Rivers of tears flowed from my eyes, because they did not keep your law.
137 You are righteous, O Lord, and your judgments are right.
138 Your testimonies, which you have commanded, are right and very faithful.
139 My zeal has consumed me, because my enemies have forgotten your words.
140 Your word is exceedingly pure, and your servant loves it.
141 I am small and rejected, yet I have not forgotten your commandments.
142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law is truth.
143 Trouble and anguish have taken hold of me, but your commandments are my delight.
144 Your testimonies are an everlasting righteousness; give me understanding, that I may live.
145 I cried out with all my heart; answer me, O Lord, and I will keep your statutes.
146 To you I cried out; Save me, and I will keep your testimonies.
147 I rise before dawn and cry for help; I put my hope in your word.
148 My eyes stay awake through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your precepts.
149 Hear my voice according to your mercy; O Lord, revive me according to your judgment.
150 My persecutors draw near to wickedness; they stray far from your law.
151 You are near, O Lord, and all your commandments are true.
152 Long ago I understood your testimonies, which you have established forever.
153 Look on my affliction and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law.
154 Defend my cause and redeem me; revive me according to your word.
155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes.
156 Many are your mercies, O Lord; Revive me according to your judgments.
157 Many are my persecutors and my enemies, but I have not departed from your testimonies.
158 I saw the treacherous, and I was displeased, because they did not keep your words.
159 See, O Lord, that I love your commandments; revive me according to your mercy.
160 The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous judgments endures forever.
161 Princes have persecuted me without cause, but my heart feared your words.
162 I rejoice in your word like one who finds great plunder.
163 I hate and abhor falsehood; I love your law.
164 Seven times a day I praise you because of your righteous judgments.
165 Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.
166 I have waited for your salvation, O Lord, and I have obeyed your commands.
167 My soul has kept your testimonies, and I love them greatly.
168 I have kept your commandments and your testimonies, for all my ways are before you.
169 Let my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your word.
170 Let my prayer come before you; deliver me according to your word.
171 My lips will overflow with praise when you teach me your statutes.
172 My tongue will speak your words, for all your commandments are righteous.
173 Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your commandments.
174 I have longed for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.
175 Let my soul live and praise you, and let your judgments help me.
176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; Seek out your servant, for I have not forgotten your commandments.

Psalms Chapter 120

Prayer against the danger of the deceitful tongue

1 In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me.
2 Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.
3 What will he give you? What profit will he give you, O deceitful tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of a warrior, burning coals of juniper.
5 Woe to me, for I dwell in Meshech, I live among the tents of Kedar!
6 Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.
7 I am peaceful, but as soon as I speak, they wage war against me.

Psalms Chapter 121

Jehovah is your keeper

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Psalms Chapter 122

Prayer for the peace of Jerusalem

1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
2 Our feet have stood within your gates, O Jerusalem!
3 Jerusalem, built as a city that is closely joined together.
4 There the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5 For there are the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.”
8 For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.

Psalms Chapter 123

Prayer for mercy

1 To you I lift up my eyes, to you who dwell in the heavens.
2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until he has mercy on us.
3 Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for we have had more than enough of contempt.
4 Our soul has had enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, and of the contempt of the proud.

Psalms Chapter 124

Praise for having been delivered from enemies

1 If the Lord had not been on our side, let Israel say;
2 if the Lord had not been on our side when men rose up against us,
3 then they would have swallowed us alive when their anger was kindled against us.
4 Then the waters would have overwhelmed us; the torrent would have swept over us;
5 then the raging waters would have swept over us.
6 Praise be to the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth.
7 We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalms Chapter 125

God protects his people

1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.
3 For the scepter of wickedness will not rest on the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to do evil.
4 Deal well, O Lord, with those who are good, with those who are upright in heart.
5 But those who turn aside to wicked schemes, the Lord will lead away with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel!
