Ezekiel Chapter 25
Prophecy against Amon
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites and prophesy against them.
3 Say to the Ammonites, ‘Hear the word of the Sovereign Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because you said, “Aha!” when my sanctuary was desecrated, when the land of Israel was laid waste, and the people of Judah were taken captive,
4 therefore I am going to give you as a possession to the people of the East. They will set up their folds in you and pitch their tents there; they will eat what you grow and drink your milk.
5 I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and the Ammonites a resting place for flocks. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
6 For thus says the Lord God: Because you clapped your hands and stamped your foot, and rejoiced in your soul in all your contempt for the land of Israel,
7 therefore, behold, I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will give you up to the nations to be plundered; I will cut you off from among the peoples, and destroy you from among the lands; I will annihilate you, and you shall know that I am the Lord.
Prophecy against Moab
8 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because Moab and Seir said, “Judah is like all the other nations,”
9 therefore I am going to open up the border of Moab, starting from its cities—its border towns, the desirable lands of Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim—
10 to the people of the East, against the Ammonites. I will give it as their inheritance, so that the Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations.
11 I will execute judgment on Moab, and they will know that I am the Lord.
Prophecy against Edom
12 Thus says the Lord God: Because Edom did, taking vengeance on the house of Judah, for they sinned greatly and avenged themselves on them;
13 therefore thus says the Lord God: I also will stretch out my hand against Edom, and cut off from it man and beast, and I will lay it waste; from Teman to Dedan they shall fall by the sword.
14 And I will inflict my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do to Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath; and they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord God.
Prophecy against the Philistines
15 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because the Philistines acted in vengeance, taking revenge with spiteful intent, destroying because of old hatred;
16 therefore, this is what the Lord says: I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines and cut off the Cherethites, and I will destroy the remnant that is left on the coastland.
17 I will inflict great vengeance on them with furious rebukes, and they will know that I am the Lord, when I inflict my vengeance on them.
Ezekiel Chapter 26
Prophecy against Tyre
1 In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:
2 “ Son of man, because Tyre said of Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gate of the nations is broken down; it has turned back to me; I shall be filled, but it is desolate,’
3 therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves.
4 They will break down the walls of Tyre and tear down its towers; I will sweep it clean of its dust and make it a bare rock.
5 It will be a place for spreading nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord, and it will be plundered by the nations.
6 Her daughters who are in the field will be slain by the sword, and they will know that I am the Lord.’”
7 For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am bringing Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, from the north against Tyre, with horses, chariots, horsemen, troops, and a great multitude.
8 He will kill your daughters in the field with the sword, and he will set up siege towers against you, and raise up a rampart against you, and set up a shield against you.
9 He will set up battering rams against your walls, and he will break down your towers with axes.
10 Because of the multitude of his horses, their dust will cover you; at the noise of his horses, wheels, and chariots, your walls will shake, when he enters through your gates as through the breaches of a ruined city.
11 With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets; he will kill your people with the edge of the sword, and your strong pillars will fall to the ground.
12 They will plunder your wealth and loot your merchandise; They will ruin your walls and demolish your precious houses; they will throw your stones, your timbers, and your dust into the waters.
13 I will put an end to the noise of your songs, and the sound of your lyres will be heard no more.
14 I will make you like a bare rock; you will be a place for spreading nets, and you will never be rebuilt again, for I, the Lord, have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.
15 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Tyre: Will not the coastlands tremble at the sound of your fall, when the wounded cry out, when the slaughter takes place in your midst?
16 Then all the princes of the sea will come down from their thrones, and they will remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments; they will be clothed in terror, they will sit on the ground, trembling every moment, and they will be appalled at you.
17 They will raise a lamentation over you and say to you, “How have you perished, you who are inhabited by seafarers, you praised city, you mighty one on the sea, you and your inhabitants, who inspired terror in all who were around you?
18 Now the islands will tremble on the day of your downfall; yes, the islands of the sea will be terrified at your end.”
19 For thus says the Lord God: “I will make you a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; I will bring up the deep over you, and the mighty waters will cover you.
20 I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, with the peoples of other ages, and I will put you in the depths of the earth, like the ancient deserts, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will never be inhabited again; and I will give glory in the land of the living.
21 I will make you a horror, and you will cease to be; You will be sought, and you will never be found again, says the Lord God.
Ezekiel Chapter 27
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 “Son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre.
3 Say to Tyre, which sits on the shores of the sea, which trades with the peoples of many coastlands: ‘Thus says the Lord God: Tyre, you have said, “I am perfect in beauty.”
4 Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders perfected your beauty.
5 They made all your timbers of fir trees from Mount Senir; they took cedars from Lebanon to make your masts.
6 They made your oars of oak from Bashan; your benches of pine from the coasts of Kittim, inlaid with ivory.
7 Your curtain was of fine embroidered linen from Egypt, to serve as your sail; your canopy was of blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah.
8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen; your wise men, O Tyre, were among you; they were your pilots.’”
9 The elders of Gebal and their most skilled craftsmen caulked your joints; all the ships of the sea and their oarsmen came to you to trade, to share in your business.
10 Persians and the men of Lud and Put were in your army, your warriors; they hung shields and helmets on you; they gave you your splendor.
11 The men of Arvad were with your army on your walls all around, and the Gammadites in your towers; they hung their shields on your walls all around; they completed your beauty.
12 Tarshish traded with you because of all your wealth; they traded in your markets with silver, iron, tin, and lead.
13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech also traded with you; they traded in your markets with men and bronze articles.
14 The people of Togarmah traded in your market with horses, warhorses, and mules.
15 The people of Dedan traded with you; many coastlands received merchandise from you; they gave you ivory and ebony tusks as payment.
16 Edom traded with you because of your abundance; they came to your markets with pearls, purple cloth, embroidered garments, fine linen, coral, and rubies.
17 Judah and the land of Israel traded with you; they traded in your markets with wheat from Minnith and Panag, honey, oil, and resin.
18 Damascus traded with you because of your abundant produce, because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth; they traded with wine from Helbon and white wool.
19 Dan and the wandering Javan also came to your markets to trade in your marketplace with wrought iron, distilled myrrh, and fragrant cane.
20 Dedan traded with you with fine chariot fabrics.
21Arabia and all the princes of Kedar traded with you in lambs, rams, and goats; these were your merchants.
22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah were also your merchants; they came to your markets with the finest of all spices, precious stones, and gold.
23 Haran, Cane, Eden, and the merchants of Sheba, Assyria, and Chilmad traded with you.
24 These merchants of yours traded with you in various things: in blue and embroidered garments, and in chests of fine clothing, woven with cords, and in cedar wood.
25 The ships of Tarshish were like your caravans, bringing your merchandise; so you grew wealthy and multiplied greatly in the midst of the seas.
26 Your rowers swallowed you up in many waters; the east wind broke you in the midst of the seas.
27 Your riches, your merchandise, your trade, your rowers, your pilots, your caulkers, and the agents of your business, and all your warriors who are in you, with all your company that is in your midst, will fall in the midst of the seas on the day of your downfall.
28 At the sound of the voices of your sailors, the coastlands will tremble.
29 All who take up the oar will come down from their ships; the rowers and all the pilots of the sea will remain on the shore,
30 and they will raise their voices against you and cry out bitterly, and throw dust on their heads and roll in ashes.
31 They will shave their heads for you, put on sackcloth, and wail bitterly for you, with bitterness of soul.
32 They will raise lamentations over you in their wailing, and they will wail over you, saying, “Who is like Tyre, like the one destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33 When your merchandise came out of the ships, you satisfied many peoples; you enriched the kings of the earth with the abundance of your wealth and your trade.
34 In the time when you are broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your trade and all your company will fall in your midst.
35 All the inhabitants of the coastlands will marvel at you, and their kings will tremble with fear; their faces will change.
36 The merchants in the towns will hiss at you; you will become a horror, and you will be no more forever.
Ezekiel Chapter 28
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Because your heart is lifted up, and you say, “I am a god; I sit on the throne of God in the midst of the seas”—though you are a man and not God—and you consider yourself to be the heart of God,
3 behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that is hidden from you.
4 By your wisdom and understanding you have gained wealth and acquired gold and silver for your treasuries.
5 By your great wisdom in your trading you have increased your wealth, and because of your wealth your heart has become lifted up.
6 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Because you consider yourself to be the heart of God,
7 therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of the nations, who will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and defile your splendor.’”
8 They will bring you down to the pit, and you will die the death of those who are slain in the heart of the seas.
9 Will you speak before your slayer, saying, “I am God”? You are but a man, and not God, in the hand of your slayer.
10 You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hand of foreigners; for I have spoken, declares the Lord God.
11 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
12 “ Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, topaz, jasper, chrysolite, beryl, and onyx, sapphire, turquoise, emerald, and gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14 You were the anointed cherub who covers; I placed you on the holy mountain of God; you walked among the fiery stones.
15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you.
16 Through the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned; therefore I cast you out as a descendant of God, and destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.
17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, that they might gaze at you.
18With the multitude of your sins and the wickedness of your trade you defiled your sanctuaries; so I brought fire from your midst, and it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who were watching.
19 All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have become a horror, and you will cease to exist forever.
Prophecy against Sidon
20 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
21 “ Son of man, set your face against Sidon and prophesy against it,
22 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Sidon, and I will be glorified in your midst; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I execute judgments upon it and sanctify myself in its midst.
23 I will send pestilence upon it, and bloodshed in its streets; the slain shall fall in its midst, with the sword against it from every side; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
24 And no more shall there be a thorn to prickle the house of Israel, nor a goad to make them suffer, among all who surround them and despise them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
25 Thus says the Lord God: When I gather the house of Israel from the nations among which they have been scattered, then I will be glorified in them in the sight of the nations, and they shall dwell in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob.”’”
26 They will live there securely, build houses, and plant vineyards; they will live in safety when I execute judgment on all who oppress them around them. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.
Ezekiel Chapter 29
Prophecies against Egypt
1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.
3 Speak and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, you great dragon that lies in the midst of his rivers, who said, “The Nile is mine, for I made it.”
4 I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will fasten the fish of your rivers to your scales, and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers will come out clinging to your scales.
5 I will leave you and all the fish of your rivers in the wilderness; you will lie on the open field; you will not be gathered or collected; I will give you as food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the air.”’”
6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the Lord, for they were a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
7 When they grasped you, you broke, and shattered their entire shoulder; and when they leaned on you, you broke, and shattered their loins completely.
8 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am bringing a sword against you, and I will cut off from you both man and beast.
9 And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and deserted, and they shall know that I am the Lord, for he said, “The Nile is mine, and I made it.”
10 Therefore, behold, I am against you and against your rivers; and I will make the land of Egypt a desolation, a desert waste, from Migdol to Syene, to the border of Ethiopia.
11 No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast through it, nor shall it be inhabited for forty years.
12 I will make the land of Egypt a desolation among the wastelands, and its cities will lie desolate among the ruined cities for forty years. I will scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it throughout the countries.
13 For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “At the end of forty years I will gather Egypt from the peoples among whom they have been scattered.
14 I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to the land of Pathros, to the land of their origin. There they will be a despised kingdom.
15 Compared to the other kingdoms, it will be lowly; it will never again rule over the nations, for I will diminish them so that they will no longer have dominion over the nations.”
16 And it will no longer be a reliable support for the house of Israel, reminding them of the sin of looking after them; and they will know that I am the Lord God.
17 In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
18 “ Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army perform arduous service against Tyre. Every head is bald, and every back is skinned; and neither he nor his army received any pay from Tyre for the service they rendered against her.
19 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I am giving Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon the land of Egypt; and he shall take its wealth, and gather its spoil, and carry off plunder, and there shall be payment for his army.
20 For the service with which they performed against her I have given him the land of Egypt; for they labored for me,’ declares the Lord God.”
21 At that time I will cause the power of the house of Israel to sprout. And I will open your mouth in their midst, and they shall know that I am the Lord
Ezekiel Chapter 30
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Wail, “Alas for that day!”
3 For the day is near, the day of the Lord is near—a day of clouds, a day of punishment for the nations.
4 The sword will come upon Egypt, and terror will grip Ethiopia when the slain fall in Egypt. They will seize her wealth, and her foundations will be destroyed.
5 Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all Arabia, Libya, and the people of the allied lands will fall with them by the edge of the sword.
’ 6 Thus says the Lord: ‘Those who support Egypt will also fall, and the pride of her power will crumble. From Migdol to Syene they will fall within her by the edge of the sword,’ declares the Lord God.
7 They will be laid waste among the lands of desolation, and their cities will be among the ruined cities.
8 Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I set fire to Egypt, and all her helpers are destroyed.
9 At that time messengers will go out from before me in ships to terrify unsuspecting Ethiopia, and they will be terrified as in the day of Egypt, for it is coming.
10 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will destroy the wealth of Egypt by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11 He and his army with him, the strongest of the nations, will be brought to destroy the land. They will draw their swords against Egypt and fill the land with the slain.
12 I will dry up the rivers and give the land into the hands of wicked men; I will destroy the land and everything in it by the hands of foreigners. I, the Lord, have spoken.
13 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will also destroy the images and the idols of Memphis. There will no longer be any ruler in the land of Egypt, and I will put terror in the land of Egypt.
14 I will lay waste Pathros and set Zoan on fire, and I will execute judgments on Thebes.
15 I will pour out my wrath on Sin, the stronghold of Egypt, and I will destroy the multitude of Thebes.
16 I will set fire to Egypt; Sin will be in great sorrow, Thebes will be shattered, and Memphis will have continual anguish.
17 The young men of Aven and Pibbeseth will fall by the edge of the sword, and the women will go into captivity.
18 And in Tahpanhes the day will grow dark when I break the power of Egypt there, and the pride of her might will cease from her; darkness will cover her, and the inhabitants of her villages will go into captivity.
19 I will execute judgments on Egypt, and they will know that I am the Lord.
20 In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
21 Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and behold, it has not been bandaged or cured, nor has it been bound with a sash to strengthen it so that it may hold the sword.
22 Therefore, thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and I will break his arms, both the strong and the broken, and I will make the sword fall from his hand.
23 And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them throughout the lands.
24 And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and I will put my sword in his hand; but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he will groan before him with the groans of one who is mortally wounded.
25 So I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and Pharaoh’s arms will fall; and they will know that I am the Lord, when I put my sword in the hand of the king of Babylon, and he draws it out against the land of Egypt.
26 And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them throughout the lands; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel Chapter 31
1 In the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:
2 “ Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his people, ‘To whom can you compare yourself in your greatness?’
3 Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar of Lebanon, with beautiful boughs, leafy foliage, and great height, its top reaching out from the thick foliage.
4 The waters made it grow tall, the deep made it high; its rivers flowed around its base, and all the trees of the field received its streams.
5 Therefore, its height surpassed all the trees of the field, and its boughs multiplied; because of the abundant waters, its branches grew long and strong.
6 In its boughs all the birds of the air nested, and under its boughs all the beasts of the field gave birth; and many nations dwelt in its shade.
7 Therefore it became beautiful in its greatness through the spreading of its boughs; because its roots were by many waters.
8 The cedars in the garden of God could not cover it; the firs could not compare with its boughs, nor the chestnut trees with its foliage; no tree in the garden of God could compare with it in beauty.
9 I made it beautiful with its many boughs, and all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, envied it.
10 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because it grew so tall and its top was set high among the thick boughs, and because its heart was lifted up by its height,
11 I will hand it over to the mighty one of the nations, who will surely deal with it according to its wickedness. I have rejected it.
12 Foreigners, the mighty ones of the nations, will destroy it and bring it down; its boughs will fall on the mountains and in all the valleys, and its branches will be broken out in all the streams of the earth. And all the peoples of the earth will depart from its shade and forsake it.
13 All the birds of the air will dwell on its ruins, and all the beasts of the field will stand on its branches,
14 so that none of the trees growing by the waters will exalt themselves in their height, nor lift up their tops in the thicket, nor let all those who drink water trust in their height; for all are destined for death, to the depths of the earth, among the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit.
15 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: On the day he went down to Sheol, I mourned; I covered the deep for him and stopped up its rivers, so that its abundant waters were restrained. I covered Lebanon with darkness for him, and all the trees of the field withered.
16 I made the nations tremble at the sound of his fall when I brought him down to Sheol with all who go down to the pit. All the choice trees of Eden and the finest trees of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the depths of the earth.
17 They too went down with him to Sheol, with those slain by the sword, those who were his strength, those who stood in his shade among the nations.
18 To whom have you compared yourself in glory and majesty among the trees of Eden? But you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the depths of the earth; you will lie among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his people, says the Lord God.
Ezekiel Chapter 32
1 In the twelfth year, on the first day of the twelfth month, the word of the Lord came to me:
2 “ Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: ‘You are like a young lion among the nations, like a dragon in the seas; you dried up your rivers, muddied their waters with your feet, and trampled down their banks.’
3 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘I will spread my net over you with a multitude of peoples, and they will bring you up in my net.
4 Then I will leave you on the land and cast you out on the open field. I will make all the birds of the air rest on you, and I will satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with you.
5 I will lay your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your carcasses.
6 I will drench the land where you swim with your blood, even to the mountains, and the streams will be filled with you.
7 When I have extinguished you, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.
8 I will darken all the bright stars of the sky for your sake and bring darkness over your land, declares the Lord God.
9 I will sadden the hearts of many nations when I carry your people away into exile among the peoples, to lands you have not known.
10 I will make many nations appalled because of you, and their kings will be greatly awestruck at you, when I flash my sword before them. They will all tremble in their hearts every moment on the day of your downfall.
11 For this is what the Lord God says: “The sword of the king of Babylon will come upon you.
12 With the swords of the mighty I will make your people fall; all of them will be the mighty men of the nations. They will destroy the pride of Egypt, and all her multitude will be utterly destroyed.”
13 I will destroy all her livestock from the mighty waters; no human foot will muddy them anymore, nor will any animal hoof muddy them.
14 I will make her waters settle, and I will make her rivers flow like oil, declares the Lord God.
15 When I lay waste to the land of Egypt, and the land is stripped of all that is in it, when I kill all who dwell in it, then they shall know that I am the Lord.
16 This is the lament, and they shall sing it; the daughters of the nations shall sing it; they shall lament for Egypt and for all her multitude, declares the Lord God.
17 In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
18 “ Son of man, lament for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, both them and the daughters of the mighty nations, to the depths of the earth, with those who go down to the pit.
19Because you are so handsome, come down and lie with the uncircumcised.
20 He will fall among those slain by the sword; he will be given over to the sword. Bring him and all his people to him.
21 From the midst of Sheol, the mightiest of the mighty will speak to him, along with those who helped him, who came down and lie with the uncircumcised slain by the sword.
22 There is Assyria with all its horde; all around it are its graves; all of them fell slain by the sword.
23 Their graves were laid out on the sides of the pit, and their people are all around their graves; all of them fell slain by the sword, who spread terror in the land of the living.
24 There Elam, and all its multitude around its grave; all of them fell slain by the sword, who went down uncircumcised to the depths of the earth, for they sowed their terror in the land of the living, but they bore their confusion with those who go down to the grave.
25 In the midst of the slain they laid him a bed with all his multitude; all around him are his graves; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, for their terror was placed in the land of the living, but they bore their shame with those who go down to the pit; he was laid in the midst of the slain.
26 There were Meshech and Tubal, and all their multitude; their graves all around them; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, for they had spread their terror in the land of the living.
27 And they shall not lie with the mighty of the uncircumcised who fell, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, and their swords laid under their heads; but their sins shall be upon their bones, for they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.
28 You, therefore, shall be broken among the uncircumcised, and you shall lie with those slain by the sword.
29 There Edom, its kings, and all its princes, who in their might were laid with those slain by the sword; they will lie with the uncircumcised and with those who go down to the grave.
30 There the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who in their terror went down with the slain, ashamed of their power, also lie uncircumcised with those slain by the sword, and share their shame with those who go down to the grave.
31 Pharaoh will see these and be comforted over all his multitude; Pharaoh slain by the sword, and all his army, says the Lord God.
32 Because I have set my terror on the land of the living, Pharaoh also and all his multitude will lie among the uncircumcised with those slain by the sword, says the Lord God.
Ezekiel Chapter 33
The watchman's duty
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: When I bring a sword against a land, and the people of the land choose a man from their territory and set him as a watchman,
3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people,
4 whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood will be on his own head. But whoever takes warning will save his life.
6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any of them away, that person will be taken away in his sin, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.”
7 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the words I speak and give them warning from me.
8 When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.
9 But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, but you will have saved yourself.
God's way is righteous
10 “Therefore, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘You have spoken thus, saying, “Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we are consumed because of them; how then shall we live?”’
11 Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord God, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from their ways and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?’
12 “ And you, son of man, say to the children of your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous will not deliver them in the day they transgress; and the wickedness of the wicked will not hinder them in the day they turn from their wickedness; and the righteous will not live by their righteousness in the day they sin.’
13 When I say to the righteous, ‘You shall surely live,’ and they, trusting in their righteousness, do iniquity, all their righteous deeds will not be remembered, but they shall die for the iniquity they have done.
14 When I say to the wicked, “You shall surely die,” if they turn from their sin and do what is just and right,
15 if they restore what they took in pledge, give back what they have stolen, and walk in the statutes of life, doing no wrong, they shall surely live; they shall not die.
16 None of the sins they have committed shall be remembered against them. Because they have done what is just and right, they shall surely live.
17 Then your people will say, “The way of the Lord is not just.” It is their way that is not just.
18 When a righteous person turns from their righteousness and does wrong, they shall die for it.
19 But when a wicked person turns from their wickedness and does what is just and right, they shall live for it.
20 Yet you say, “The way of the Lord is not just.” I will judge you, people of Israel, each of you according to your own ways.
News of the fall of Jerusalem
21 In the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, a fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and said, “The city has been captured.”
22 The hand of the Lord had been upon me the evening before the fugitive arrived, and I had opened my mouth until he came to me in the morning. He opened my mouth, and I was no longer silent.
23 The word of the Lord came to me:
24 “ Son of man, those who live in the desolate places in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one, yet he possessed the land; but we are many, yet the land has been given to us as our possession.’
25 Therefore tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Will you eat food with the blood still in it? Will you lift up your eyes to idols and shed blood and possess the land?’”
26 You relied on your swords, you committed abominations, and each of you defiled his neighbor’s wife; and you are to possess the land?
27 You shall say to them thus: Thus says the Lord God: As surely as I live, those who are in those desolate places shall fall by the sword, and those who are in the open field I will give to the wild beasts to devour; and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves shall die of pestilence.
28 And I will make the land a desert and a wasteland, and the pride of its power shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate so that no one passes through them.
29 And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I make the land a desert and a wasteland, because of all the abominations they have committed.
30 And you, son of man, the children of your people mock you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, and they speak one to another, each to his brother, saying, “Come now, and hear what word comes from the Lord.”
31 And they will come to you as people come, and they will sit before you as my people, and they will hear your words, but they will not do them; for with their mouths they show kindness, but their hearts go after their own covetousness.
32 And behold, you are to them like a singer of love songs, one who has a beautiful voice and plays well; and they will hear your words, but they will not do them.
33 But when that time comes—and it is coming—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.
Ezekiel Chapter 34
Prophecy against the shepherds of Israel
1 The word of the Lord came to me:
2 “ Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?
3 You eat the fat, clothe yourselves with the wool, and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock.
4 You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strayed or sought the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally.
5 So they wandered for lack of a shepherd and became food for all the wild animals. They were scattered.
6 My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill; And my sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, and there was no one to search for them or to inquire about them.
7 Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:
8 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, because my flock became a prey, and my sheep became food for all the wild animals, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds did not search for my sheep but fed themselves and did not feed my sheep,
9 therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord:
10 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against the shepherds, and I will demand my sheep from their hand. I will make them stop feeding the sheep, and the shepherds will no longer feed themselves, for I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, and they will no longer be food for them.
11 For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and seek them out.
12 As a shepherd looks out for his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look out for my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.
13 I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the land.
14 I will feed them in good pasture, and their fold will be on the high mountains of Israel. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and they will feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
15 I myself will tend my flock and make it lie down for them, declares the Sovereign Lord.
16 I will seek the lost, and bring back the strayed; I will bind up the injured, and strengthen the weak; but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will shepherd them with justice.
17 But as for you, my sheep, thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and male goats.
18 Is it not enough for you to eat the good pasture, but you must also trample down with your feet what is left of your pasture; and when you drink the clear waters, you also muddy with your feet what is left?
19 My sheep eat what you have trampled underfoot, and drink what you have muddied with your feet.
20 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says to them: I, I myself, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
21 Because you have pushed with your side and shoulder and butted with your horns at all the weak sheep until you have scattered and driven them away,
22 I will save my sheep, and they will no longer be prey; I will judge between one sheep and another.
23 I will raise up over them one shepherd, and he will tend them—my servant David—and he will tend them and be their shepherd.
24 I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I, the Lord, have spoken.
25 I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of wild beasts. They will live securely in the wilderness and lie down in the forests.
26 I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill, and I will send down showers in their season; they will be showers of blessing.
27 The trees of the field will yield their fruit, and the ground will produce its crops. They will live securely in their land, and they will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
28 They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will the wild animals of the earth devour them. They will live securely, and no one will make them afraid.
29 I will raise up for them a renowned plant, and they will no longer be consumed by famine in the land, nor will they be put to shame by the nations anymore.
30 Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and they are my people, the house of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.
31 You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.
Ezekiel Chapter 35
Prophecy against Mount Seir
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,
3 and say to it, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate wilderness.
4 I will lay waste your cities, and you shall be laid waste; and you shall know that I am the Lord.
5 Because you have harbored perpetual enmity and delivered the children of Israel over to the power of the sword in the time of their affliction, in the time of their great evil,
6 therefore, as I live, says the Lord God, I will destine you to bloodshed, and bloodshed shall pursue you; and because you did not abhor bloodshed, bloodshed shall pursue you.
7 I will make Mount Seir a desolate wilderness and cut off from it all who go out and all who come in.
8 I will fill its mountains with its slain; On your hills, in your valleys, and in all your streams, they will fall slain by the sword.
9 I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities will never be rebuilt; and you will know that I am the Lord.
10 Because you said, “The two nations and the two lands will be mine, and I will take possession of them, the Lord being there,”
11 therefore, as surely as I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you according to your anger and according to your jealousy, which you displayed because of your enmity against them; and I will be known among them when I judge you.
12 And you will know that I, the Lord, have heard all your insults that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, “They are destroyed; they have been given to us to devour.”
13 You magnified yourselves against me with your mouths and multiplied your words against me. I heard it.
14 Thus says the Lord God: So that all the earth may rejoice, I will make you a desolation.
15 As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was laid waste, so I will do to you; Mount Seir shall be laid waste, and all Edom, all of it; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel Chapter 36
Future restoration of Israel
1 You, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord.
2 Thus says the Lord God: Because the enemy said of you, “Aha! Even the everlasting heights have been given to us as our inheritance,”
3 therefore prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God: Because you have been ravaged and swallowed up from all sides, to become an inheritance for the other nations, and have become the talk of taunts and a reproach to the peoples,
4 therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys, to the ruins and desolations and the deserted cities, which have become plunder and a reproach to the other nations all around;
5 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “In my fierce jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, against all of Edom, who gladly and with all their heart and furious intent claimed my land as their inheritance, so that its outcasts might become their prey.
6 Therefore, prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my jealousy and in my anger I have spoken, because you have borne the reproach of the nations.’
7 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I have lifted up my hand and sworn that the nations around you must bear their reproach.
8 But you, mountains of Israel, will bear branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they are about to come.
9 For behold, I am for you; I will return to you, and you will be plowed and sown.”
10 I will multiply men upon you, upon all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited, and the ruins rebuilt.
11 I will multiply men and livestock upon you, and they shall be multiplied and increase; and I will make you dwell as you did of old, and I will do you more good than at your beginning; and you shall know that I am the Lord.
12 I will cause men to walk upon you, my people Israel; and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no longer kill their children.
13 Thus says the Lord God: Because they say of you, “You are a devourer of men, and a slayer of the children of your nation,”
14 therefore you shall no longer devour men, and you shall no longer kill the children of your nation, declares the Lord God.
15 And I will no longer let you hear the reproach of the nations, nor shall you bear the reproach of the peoples, nor shall you slay the children of your nation, declares the Lord God.
16 The word of the Lord came to me, saying:
17Son of man, while the house of Israel lived in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their conduct was like the uncleanness of a woman in her period before me.
18 So I poured out my wrath on them for the blood they had shed on the land, because they had defiled it with their idols.
19 I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed throughout the countries. I judged them according to their ways and their deeds.
20 When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned my holy name. It was said of them, “These are the Lord’s people, and they came out of his land.”
21 But I was grieved when the house of Israel profaned my holy name among the nations where they went.
22 Therefore say to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do this, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone.”
23 I will vindicate my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
24 I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries, and I will bring you into your own land.
25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
27 I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
28 You will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.
29 I will save you from all your uncleanness; I will call for the grain and make it plentiful, and I will not let you go hungry.
30 I will also multiply the fruit of the trees and the produce of the fields, so that you will no longer suffer the reproach of famine among the nations.
31 Then you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and your abominations.
32 I am not doing this for your sakes, declares the Lord God; know this well. Be ashamed and disgraced for your sins, O house of Israel!
33 This is what the Lord God says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will also cause the cities to be inhabited, and the ruins to be rebuilt.
34 The desolate land will be cultivated, instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass by.
35 And they will say, “This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and these cities that were deserted, desolate, and ruined are now fortified and inhabited.”
36 And the nations that remain around you will know that I have rebuilt what was torn down and replanted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do it.
37 Thus says the Lord God: I will yet again be asked by the house of Israel to do this for them: I will multiply men as flocks multiply.
38 Like the consecrated sheep, like the sheep of Jerusalem at its appointed feasts, so the desolate cities will be filled with flocks of men; and they will know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel Chapter 37
The Valley of Dry Bones
1 The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones.
2 He led me all around them, and I saw a great many bones lying on the surface of the valley, bones that were very dry.
3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I answered, “O Lord God, you know.”
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!’
5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.
6 I will attach sinews to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. As I prophesied, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
8 Then I looked, and sinews appeared on them, flesh appeared, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.’”
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood on their feet—a vast army.
11 Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up, our hope is gone; we are cut off.’
12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.’”
13 And you will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from your tombs, my people.
14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.
The meeting of Judah and Israel
15 The word of the Lord came to me:
16 “ Son of man, take a stick and write on it, ‘For Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and all the house of Israel associated with him.’
17 Join them together so they become one, and they will be one in your hand.
18 When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you tell us what you mean by this?’
19 Tell them, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in Ephraim’s hand, and the tribes of Israel associated with him, and I will join them with the stick of Judah, making them one stick, and they will be one in my hand.”
20 The sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes.
21 Then you will say to them, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone, gather them from all around, and bring them back to their own land.”
22 I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel, and one king will be king over them all. They will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.
23 They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, their detestable practices, or any of their transgressions. I will save them from all their sins and cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
24 My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
25 They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and my servant David will be their prince forever.
26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set my sanctuary among them forever.
27 My dwelling place will be among them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.
28 Then the nations will know that I, the Lord, make Israel holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.
Ezekiel Chapter 38
Prophecy against Gog
1 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2 “ Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
4 I will turn you around and put hooks in your jaws, and I will bring out against you and all your army, horses and horsemen fully equipped, a great horde with bucklers and shields, all of them wielding swords.
5 Persia, Cush, and Put will be with them, all of them with shield and helmet.
6 Gomer and all its troops, the house of Togarmah from the far north, and all its troops—many nations with you.
7 Be ready and prepared, you and all your horde gathered around you, and be their guard.
8 After many days you will be punished; After many years you will come to the land restored from the sword, gathered from many nations, to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. But it was brought out from the nations, and all of them will dwell securely.
9 You will advance, coming like a storm; you and all your troops, and many nations with you, will be like a cloud covering the land.
10 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “On that day thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will devise an evil plan.
11 You will say, ‘I will advance against a land that cannot be defended; I will attack a peaceful nation, a people who live in safety, all of whom live without walls or bars or gates,
12 to seize plunder and take loot, to turn your hand against the desolate lands that are now inhabited, against the people gathered from the nations, who acquire livestock and possessions, who live in the heart of the land.’”
13 Sheba and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish and all its rulers, will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to take loot, to carry off silver and gold, to seize livestock and possessions, to take great spoil?”
14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, “Thus says the Lord God: In that day, when my people Israel are living securely, will you not take notice?
15 You will come from your place, from the north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army.
16 You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud covering the land. It will be in the latter days, and I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me, when I am proved holy through you, O Gog, before their eyes.”
17 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Are you not the one I spoke of in days of old through my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied at that time that I would bring you upon them?
18 At that time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord, my wrath and my anger will be aroused.
19 For in my zeal and in the fire of my anger I have spoken: ‘At that time there will be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.
20 The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, and all mankind on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will crumble, the cliffs will fall, and every wall will collapse to the ground.
21 I will summon a sword against him on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother.
22 I will execute judgment on him with pestilence and bloodshed; And I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many nations with him, torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur.
23 And I will be magnified and sanctified, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations; and they will know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel Chapter 39
1 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
2 I will turn you around and drive you out; I will bring you up from the north and bring you against the mountains of Israel.
3 I will take your bow from your left hand and knock down your arrows from your right hand.
4 You and all your troops and the nations with you will fall on the mountains of Israel. I will give you as food to all kinds of birds of prey and to the wild animals.
5 You will fall on the open plain, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.
6 I will send fire on Magog and on those who live securely in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the Lord.
7 I will make my holy name known among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned. And the nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is coming, and it will be fulfilled, declares the Lord God; this is the day of which I have spoken.
9 The inhabitants of the cities of Israel will go out and set fire to and burn the weapons—shields, bucklers, bows, arrows, javelins, and spears—and burn them in the fire for seven years.
10 They will not bring wood from the field, nor cut down anything from the forests, but they will burn the weapons in the fire. They will plunder their plunderers and rob those who robbed them, declares the Lord God.
11 At that time I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, in the valley of those who pass east of the sea. It will block the passage of travelers, for there they will bury Gog and all his hordes. They will call it the Valley of Hamon-gog.
12 For seven months the house of Israel will bury them, to cleanse the land.
13 All the people of the land will bury them, and they will be honored on the day I am glorified, declares the Lord God.
14 They will hire men to go throughout the land with those who travel, to bury those who remain on the face of the land, to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make a reconnaissance.
15 As those who travel through the land pass by, whoever sees any human bones will set a marker beside them until the gravediggers bury them in the Valley of Hamon-gog.
16 The name of the city will also be Hamona, and they will cleanse the land.
17 And you, son of man, thus says the Lord God: Say to the birds of every kind, and to all the beasts of the field, “Assemble yourselves and come; Assemble from all around to my sacrifice that I will offer you, a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel; and you will eat flesh and drink blood.
18You will eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth; of rams, of lambs, of male goats, of oxen and of bulls, all fattened in Bashan.
19 You will eat the fat until you are full, and you will drink until you are drunk on the blood of the sacrifices I have prepared for you.
20 You will feast at my table on horses, on mighty horsemen, and on all the men of war, declares the Lord God.
21 I will set my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment I have executed and the hand I have laid on them.
22 From that day forward, the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God.
23 The nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their sin, because they rebelled against me, so I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.
24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions, I dealt with them, and I hid my face from them.
25 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have compassion on all the house of Israel, and I will be zealous for my holy name.
26 They will feel their shame and all their transgression with which they have acted unfaithfully against me, when they live securely in their own land, with no one to make them afraid.
27 I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the lands of their enemies, and I will be proved holy in them in the sight of many nations.
28 Then they will know that I am the Lord their God, when, after I have sent them into exile among the nations, I gather them back to their own land, leaving none of them behind.
29 I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel,” declares the Sovereign Lord.
Ezekiel Chapter 40
The vision of the temple
1 In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, fourteen years after the city was captured, on that very day the hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me there.
2 In visions of God he brought me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, on the south side of which was a building like a great city.
3 He brought me there, and behold, a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, and he had a linen cord in his hand and a measuring rod; and he was standing at the gate.
4 And the man spoke to me, saying, “Son of man, look with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and pay attention to all that I show you, for you have been brought here so that I might show it to you. Tell the house of Israel everything that you see.
5 And behold, there is a wall outside the house; The measuring rod that the man held in his hand was six cubits long, and he measured the thickness of the wall, one rod, and its height, another rod.
6 Then he came to the gate facing east and went up its steps. He measured one gatepost, one rod wide, and the other gatepost, another rod wide.
7 Each chamber was one rod long and one rod wide, and the space between the chambers was five cubits wide. Each gatepost by the entrance of the gate on the inside was one rod.
8 He also measured the entrance of the gate on the inside, one rod.
9 He then measured the entrance of the gateway, eight cubits, and its gateposts were two cubits long. The gate of the gateway was on the inside.
10 The east gate had three chambers on each side, all three of one size, and the gateways on each side were also of one size.
11 He measured the width of the entrance gate, ten cubits, and the length of the portico, thirteen cubits.
12 The space in front of the chambers was one cubit on one side and one cubit on the other side; and each chamber was six cubits on one side and six cubits on the other.
13 He measured the gate from the roof of one chamber to the roof of the other, twenty-five cubits wide, gate to gate.
14 And he measured the posts, sixty cubits each, each post of the courtyard and of the portico all around.
15 And from the front of the entrance gate to the front of the entrance of the inner gate, fifty cubits.
16 And there were narrow windows in the chambers, and in their porticoes inside the gate all around, and likewise in the corridors; and the windows were all around inside; and on each post were palm trees.
17Then he brought me to the outer court, and behold, there were chambers, and it was paved all around; there were thirty chambers around that court.
18 The paving beside the gates, in proportion to the length of the gateways, was the lowest paving.
19 And he measured the width from the front of the lower gate to the front of the inner court on the outside, one hundred cubits toward the east and north.
20 And from the gate that faced north into the outer court, he measured its length and its width.
21 Its chambers were three on one side and three on the other; and its posts and its arches were like the measurement of the first gate: fifty cubits long, and twenty-five wide.
22 And its windows and its arches and its palm trees were according to the measurement of the gate that faced east; and one went up to it by seven steps, and before them were its arches.
23 The gate of the inner court faced the north gate, and so did the gate to the east; and he measured from gate to gate, one hundred cubits.
24 Then he brought me south, and there was a gate facing south; and he measured its portals and its arches according to these measurements.
25 It had windows and arches all around, like the other windows; its length was fifty cubits, and its width twenty-five cubits.
26 Its steps had seven tiers, with arches in front of them; and it had palm trees, one on each side, on its posts.
27 There was also a gate on the south side of the inner court; and he measured from gate to gate on the south side, one hundred cubits.
28 Then he brought me into the inner court to the south gate, and he measured the south gate according to these measurements.
29 Its chambers, its posts, and its arches were according to these measurements, and it had windows and arches all around; its length was fifty cubits, and its width was twenty-five cubits.
30 The arches all around were twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide.
31 Its arches faced outwards into the courtyard, with palm trees on its posts; and its steps had eight steps.
32 He brought me to the inner court on the east side and measured the gate according to these measurements.
33 Its chambers, its posts, and its arches were according to these measurements, and it had windows and arches all around; its length was fifty cubits, and its width twenty-five cubits.
34 Its arches faced outwards into the courtyard, with palm trees on its posts on either side; and its steps had eight steps.
35 Then he brought me to the north gate and measured it according to these measurements:
36 its chambers, its posts, its arches, and its windows all around; its length was fifty cubits, and its width twenty-five cubits.
37 Its posts faced outwards into the courtyard, with palm trees on each of its posts on either side; and its steps had eight steps.
38 There was also a chamber there, with its gateposts; there they would wash the burnt offering.
39 At the entrance of the gate were two tables on one side and two on the other, for slaughtering the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering on them.
40 On one side, outside the steps, at the entrance of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, at the entrance of the gate, were two tables.
41 Four tables on one side and four tables on the other side, by the gate; eight tables in total, on which they would slaughter the sacrifices.
42 The four tables for the burnt offering were of hewn stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit high; On these they will place the utensils with which they will slaughter the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
43 Inside, hooks a handbreadth long were arranged all around, and the meat of the sacrifices was on the tables.
44 Outside the inner gate, in the inner court beside the north gate, were the chambers of the singers, facing south; one was beside the east gate, facing north.
45 He said to me, “This chamber facing south is for the priests who keep the guard of the temple.
46 The chamber facing north is for the priests who keep the guard of the altar; these are the sons of Zadok, who are called from the sons of Levi to minister to the Lord.”
47 He measured the court, one hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide; it was square; and the altar was in front of the house.
48He brought me to the portico of the temple and measured each doorpost of the portico: five cubits on one side and five cubits on the other. The width of the gate was three cubits on one side and three cubits on the other. The length of the portico was twenty cubits, and its width eleven cubits.
One went up to it by steps, and there were columns beside the doorposts, one on each side.
Ezekiel Chapter 41
1 Then he brought me into the temple and measured the doorposts. The width of the tabernacle was six cubits on one side and six cubits on the other.
2 The width of the gate was ten cubits, and the sides of the gate were five cubits on one side and five cubits on the other. He measured its length, forty cubits, and its width, twenty cubits.
3 He went inside and measured each doorpost, two cubits; the gate itself, six cubits; and the width of the entrance, seven cubits.
4 He also measured its length, twenty cubits, and its width, twenty cubits, in front of the temple. Then he said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.”
5 He measured the wall of the temple, six cubits; and the width of the chambers all around the temple, four cubits.
6 The side chambers were stacked one on top of the other, thirty on each of the three levels; And corbels were set into the wall of the house all around, upon which the chambers rested, so that they did not rest on the wall of the house.
7 And there was greater width in the upper chambers; the spiral staircase of the house rose very high all around inside the house; therefore, the house was wider at the top. From the lower floor one could go up to the middle floor, and from there to the upper floor.
8 And I looked at the height of the house all around; the foundations of the chambers were a whole reed, six cubits long.
9 The width of the wall outside the chambers was five cubits, equal to the space that remained of the chambers of the house inside.
10 And between the chambers there was a width of twenty cubits all around the house.
11 The door of each chamber opened onto the remaining space, one door to the north, and another door to the south; and the width of the remaining space was five cubits all around.
12 The building that stood before the open space on the west side was seventy cubits long; the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around and ninety cubits long.
13 Then he measured the temple, one hundred cubits long; and the open space, the building, and its walls, one hundred cubits long.
14 The width of the front of the temple and the open space on the east was one hundred cubits.
15 He measured the length of the building that stood before the open space behind it, and the chambers on either side, one hundred cubits; and the inner temple and the gateways of the courtyard.
16 The thresholds, the narrow windows, and the chambers all around the three stories were covered with wood from the floor to the windows; and the windows were also covered.
17 Above the gate, and up to the inner sanctuary and beyond, and all around the wall inside and out, he took measurements.
18 It was carved with cherubim and palm trees, with a palm tree between each cherub. Each cherub had two faces:
19 the face of a man toward the palm tree on one side, and the face of a lion toward the palm tree on the other side, all around the sanctuary.
20 From the ground up to above the gate, carved cherubim and palm trees adorned the entire wall of the temple.
21 Each doorpost of the temple was square, and the front of the sanctuary was like the other front.
22 The height of the wooden altar was three cubits, and its length was two cubits; its corners, its surface, and its walls were made of wood. Then he said to me, “This is the table that is before the Lord.”
23 The temple and the sanctuary had two gates.
24 Each gate had two leaves, two leaves that turned; Two leaves on one door, and two more on the other.
25 On the doors of the temple were carved cherubim and palm trees, as were those on the walls; and on the facade of the courtyard outside was a wooden portico.
26 And there were narrow windows, and palm trees on either side of the portico; such were the chambers of the house and the thresholds.
Ezekiel Chapter 42
1 Then he brought me to the outer court on the north side, and he took me to the chamber that faced the open space in front of the building, to the north.
2 In front of the north gate, its length was one hundred cubits, and its width fifty cubits.
3 Facing the twenty cubits of the inner court, and facing the paved area of the outer court, were the chambers, one opposite the other on three levels.
4 And in front of the chambers was a corridor ten cubits wide extending inward, with a passageway one cubit wide; and their doors faced north.
5 And the upper chambers were narrower, because the galleries took up more space from them than from the lower and middle chambers of the building.
6 Because they were on three levels, and they did not have columns like the columns of the courts; therefore, they were narrower than the lower and middle chambers, measured from the ground.
7 And the wall that was outside facing the chambers, toward the outer court in front of the chambers, was fifty cubits long.
8 For the length of the chambers of the outer court was fifty cubits; and in front of the temple facade there were one hundred cubits.
9 And beneath the chambers was the entrance on the east side, for entering it from the outer court.
10 Along the wall of the court, toward the east, facing the open space, and in front of the building, were chambers.
11 And the corridor that was in front of them was like that of the chambers that were toward the north; both its length and its width were the same, and all its exits corresponded to its doors and its entrances.
12 So also were the doors of the chambers that were toward the south; there was a door at the beginning of the corridor that was in front of the wall on the east side, for whoever entered the chambers.
13 And he said to me, “The north and south chambers, which are in front of the open space, are holy chambers in which the priests who approach the Lord will eat the holy offerings; There they shall place the holy offerings, the grain offering, the sin offering, and the offering for guilt, for the place is holy.
14 When the priests enter, they shall not go out of the holy place into the outer court, but there they shall leave their garments in which they minister, for they are holy; and they shall put on other garments, and so they shall approach that which belongs to the people.
15 After he had finished measuring the inner sanctuary, he brought me out by way of the gate facing east and measured it all around.
16 He measured the east side with the measuring rod, five hundred measuring rods all around.
17 He measured the north side, five hundred measuring rods all around.
18 He measured the south side, five hundred measuring rods all around.
19 He went around the west side and measured five hundred measuring rods.
20 He measured it on all four sides; it had a wall all around, five hundred rods long and five hundred rods wide, to separate the sanctuary from the profane area.
Ezekiel Chapter 43
The glory of Jehovah fills the temple
1 Then he brought me to the gate facing east,
2 and behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. His sound was like the sound of many waters, and the earth was radiant with his glory.
3 The sight I saw was like a vision, like the vision I saw when I came to destroy the city. The visions were like the vision I saw by the Kebar River, and I fell on my face.
4 Then the glory of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east.
5 The Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple.
Temple Laws
6 Then I heard someone speaking to me from the temple; a man was standing beside me.
7 He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne, the place where I will set the soles of my feet, where I will dwell among the Israelites forever. Never again will the people of Israel profane my holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their sexual immorality or by the dead bodies of their kings on their high places.
8 For they have placed their threshold next to my threshold and their buttress next to my buttress, with only a wall between us and me. They have profaned my holy name by the abominations they have committed; therefore I have consumed them in my anger.
9 Now they will cast away from me their sexual immorality and the dead bodies of their kings, and I will dwell among them forever.
10 Son of man, show this temple to the people of Israel, so that they may be ashamed of their sins and consider its design.”
11 And if they are ashamed of all they have done, show them the design of the temple, its layout, its exits and its entrances, all its forms, all its descriptions, all its configurations, and all its laws; and describe it before their eyes, so that they may observe all its form and all its rules and do them.
12 This is the law of the temple: On the top of the mountain, the entire enclosure all around it shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the temple.
13 These are the measurements of the altar in cubits (the cubit being one cubit and a handbreadth). The base, one cubit, and the width, one cubit; and its rim all around, one handbreadth. This shall be the base of the altar.
14 And from the base on the ground to the place below, two cubits, and the width of one cubit; From the lower cornice to the upper cornice, it measured four cubits, and the width of one cubit.
15 The altar was four cubits high, and on top of the altar were four horns.
16 The altar was twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide, square on all four sides.
17 The platform was fourteen cubits long and fourteen cubits wide on all four sides, with a rim of half a cubit all around and a base of one cubit on each side; its steps faced east.
18 Then he said to me, “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: These are the regulations for the altar on the day it is made, for offering burnt offerings on it and for sprinkling blood on it.
19 To the Levitical priests, descendants of Zadok, who come near to me to minister before me, declares the Sovereign Lord, you shall give a young bull from the herd as a sin offering.
20 You shall take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the platform, and on the rim all around, thus cleansing and purifying it.
21 Then you shall take the bull of the sin offering and burn it outside the sanctuary, according to the law of the temple.”
22 On the second day you shall offer a male goat without blemish as a sin offering, and they shall purify the altar as they purified it with the bull.
23 When you have finished making atonement, you shall offer a young bull without blemish from the herd and a ram without blemish from the flock.
24 You shall present them before the Lord, and the priests shall sprinkle salt on them and offer them as a burnt offering to the Lord.
25 For seven days they shall sacrifice a male goat each day as a sin offering, and they shall also sacrifice the young bull from the herd and a ram without blemish from the flock.
26 For seven days they shall make atonement for the altar, and cleanse it, and thus consecrate it.
27 When these days are completed, from the eighth day onward, the priests shall offer your burnt offerings and your peace offerings on the altar, and you will be accepted by me, declares the Lord God.
Ezekiel Chapter 44
1 He brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, which faces east, and it was shut.
2 The Lord said to me, “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it, for the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered by it; therefore it shall remain shut.
3 As for the prince, because he is the prince, he shall sit there to eat bread before the Lord; he shall enter by way of the gate’s vestibule, and by the same way he shall go out.”
4 Then he brought me to the north gate in front of the temple, and I looked, and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple of the Lord; and I fell on my face.
5 The Lord said to me, “Son of man, pay attention, and see with your eyes, and hear with your ears all that I say to you concerning all the ordinances of the temple of the Lord, and all its laws; and pay attention to the entrances of the temple and to all the exits of the sanctuary.”
6 And you shall say to the rebellious house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God: Enough of all your abominations, O house of Israel!
7 You have brought foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to stand in my sanctuary and to defile my house; you have offered my bread, the fat and the blood, and you have broken my covenant with all your abominations.
8 For you have not kept my prescribed requirements, but you have appointed foreigners to be keeper of the ordinances in my sanctuary.
9 Thus says the Lord God: No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter my sanctuary, not even the foreigners who are among the Israelites.
10 And the Levites who turned aside from me when Israel went astray from me, following their idols, shall bear their iniquity.”
11 They shall serve in my sanctuary as gatekeepers at the gates of the temple and as servants in the temple; they shall slaughter the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and stand before them to minister to them.
12 Because they served them before their idols and became a stumbling block of wickedness to the house of Israel, therefore I have lifted up my hand and sworn, declares the Lord God, that they shall bear their iniquity.
13 They shall not come near to me to minister to me as priests, nor shall they come near any of my holy things, my most holy things, but they shall bear their shame and the abominations they have committed.
14 Therefore I will appoint them as guards over the temple, for all its service and for all that is to be done in it.
15But the Levitical priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept the regulations of the sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, they shall come near to minister before me, and they shall stand before me to offer me the fat and the blood, declares the Lord God.
16 They shall enter my sanctuary and come near to my table to minister to me and keep my regulations.
17 When they enter the gates of the inner court, they shall wear linen garments; they shall not wear anything woolen when they minister at the gates of the inner court or inside the temple.
18 They shall have linen turbans on their heads and linen undergarments on their loins; they shall not wear anything that makes them sweat.
19 When they go out to the outer court, to the people, they shall take off the garments they have worn in ministry and leave them in the chambers of the sanctuary, and put on other garments, so that they do not sanctify the people with their garments.
20 They shall not shave their heads or let their hair grow long, but only trim it.
21 None of the priests shall drink wine when he enters the inner court.
22 He shall not marry a widow or a divorced woman, but he shall marry a virgin from the lineage of the house of Israel, or a widow who is the widow of a priest.
23 They shall teach my people the difference between the holy and the common, and show them how to distinguish between the clean and the unclean.
24 They shall stand to judge in cases of dispute; they shall judge according to my judgments; they shall keep my statutes and my ordinances in all my appointed feasts, and they shall keep my Sabbaths holy.
25 They shall not go near a dead body to defile themselves; but they may defile themselves for their father or mother, son or daughter, brother, or unmarried sister.
26 After their purification, they shall count seven days for them.
27 On the day they enter the sanctuary, the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, they shall offer their sin offering, declares the Lord God.
28 They shall have an inheritance; I will be their inheritance, but you shall give them no possession in Israel; I am their possession.
29 They shall eat the grain offering, the sin offering, and the sin offering, and every consecrated thing in Israel shall be theirs.
30 The first of all the firstfruits of everything, and every offering of all your gifts, shall belong to the priests. You shall also give the priest the first of all your dough, so that the blessing may rest on your houses.
31 The priests shall not eat anything that is dead or torn apart, whether of birds or animals.
Ezekiel Chapter 45
1 When you divide the land by lot as an inheritance, you shall set apart a portion for the Lord, a holy portion of the land, twenty-five thousand reeds long and ten thousand reeds wide; this shall be holy throughout its surrounding territory.
2 Of this, five hundred reeds long and five hundred reeds wide, forming a square around, shall be for the sanctuary; and fifty cubits around it for its common lands.
3 And from this measure, you shall measure twenty-five thousand reeds long and ten thousand reeds wide, in which shall be the sanctuary and the most holy place.
4 The holy portion of this land shall be for the priests, the ministers of the sanctuary, who come near to minister to the Lord; it shall serve as a place for their houses and as a holy precinct for the sanctuary.
5 Likewise, twenty-five thousand reeds long and ten thousand reeds wide shall be for the Levites, the ministers of the house, as their possession, with twenty chambers.
6 You shall set aside a portion of land five thousand yards wide and twenty-five thousand yards long for the city’s possession, in front of the area set apart for the sanctuary. It shall belong to all the house of Israel.
7 The prince’s portion shall be adjacent to the area set apart for the sanctuary, on both sides, and adjacent to the city’s possession, in front of the area set apart for the sanctuary and in front of the city’s possession, from the westernmost point to the easternmost point, and its length shall extend from the western boundary to the eastern boundary.
8 This land shall be their possession in Israel, and my princes shall no longer oppress my people; they shall give the land to the house of Israel according to their tribes.
9 Thus says the Lord God: “Enough, O princes of Israel! Put away violence and plunder. Do what is just and right; remove your burdens from my people,” declares the Lord God.
10 You shall have just scales, just ephahs, and just baths.
11 The ephah and the bath shall be of the same measure: the bath shall have one-tenth of the homer, and the ephah one-tenth of the homer; their measure shall be according to the homer.
12 The shekel shall be twenty gerahs. Twenty shekels, twenty-five shekels, or fifteen shekels shall be one mina for you.
13 This is the grain offering you shall present: one-sixth of an ephah for every homer of wheat, and one-sixth of an ephah for every homer of barley.
14 The ordinance for the oil is that you shall offer one bath of oil, which is one-tenth of a cor; ten baths make a homer, for ten baths are a homer.
15 And one female lamb from the flock of two hundred, from the fattened flock of Israel, for a sacrifice, for a burnt offering, and for peace offerings, to make atonement for them, says the Lord God.
Ezekiel Chapter 46
1 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The gate of the inner court facing east shall be shut on the six working days, but it shall be opened on the Sabbath and on the day of the new moon.
2 The prince shall enter by way of the portico of the outer gate and stand at the threshold of the gate while the priests offer their burnt offering and their peace offerings. He shall worship at the entrance of the gate and then go out, but the gate shall not be shut until evening.
3 The people of the land shall also worship before the Lord at the entrance of the gate on the Sabbaths and on the new moons.
4 The burnt offering that the prince shall offer to the Lord on the Sabbath shall be six lambs without blemish and one ram without blemish,
5 with each ram an ephah as a grain offering, and with each lamb a grain offering according to his ability, and a hin of oil with the ephah.
6 On the day of the new moon, he shall bring one young bull without blemish from the herd, six lambs, and one ram; they must be without blemish.
7 He shall bring an ephah grain offering with the bull, and an ephah with each ram, but with the lambs, according to his means, and a hin of oil with each ephah.
8 When the prince enters, he shall enter by way of the gate’s portico, and by the same way he shall go out.
9 When the people of the land come before the Lord at the festivals, whoever enters by the north gate shall go out by the south gate, and whoever enters by the south gate shall go out by the north gate. He shall not return by the gate by which he entered, but shall go out by the gate opposite it.
10 When they come in, the prince shall enter in their midst, and when they go out, he shall go out.
11 At the festivals and appointed assemblies, the grain offering shall be an ephah with each bull, and an ephah with each ram; and with the lambs, according to their means; and a hin of oil with each ephah.
12 But when the prince freely offers a burnt offering or peace offerings to the Lord, they shall open for him the gate facing east, and he shall offer his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he does on the Sabbath; afterward he shall go out, and they shall shut the gate after he has gone out.
13 And you shall offer as a burnt offering to the Lord every day, a lamb a year old without blemish; you shall offer it every morning.
14 And with it you shall offer every morning a grain offering of one-sixth of an ephah, and one-third of a hin of oil to mix with the fine flour, a grain offering to the Lord continually, by a perpetual statute.
15 They shall offer the lamb, the grain offering, and the oil every morning as a continual burnt offering.
16Thus says the Lord God: If the prince gives part of his inheritance to his sons, it shall be theirs; it shall be their possession as an inheritance.
17 But if he gives any of his inheritance to one of his servants, it shall belong to him until the Year of Jubilee, and then it shall revert to the prince; but his inheritance shall belong to his sons.
18 The prince shall not take any of the people’s inheritance, so that he will not deprive them of their possession; from what he owns he shall give an inheritance to his sons, so that none of my people shall be driven from their possession.
19 Then he brought me through the entrance that was by the gate, to the holy chambers of the priests, which faced north, and I saw that there was a place there at the far end on the west side.
20 And he said to me, “This is the place where the priests will bake the sin and atonement offering; there they will bake the offering, so that they do not carry it out into the outer court, thus sanctifying the people.”
21 Then he brought me out into the outer court and led me around the four corners of the court; and in each corner there was a courtyard.
22 At the four corners of the courtyard were walled courtyards, forty cubits long and thirty cubits wide; all four were the same size.
23 There was a wall all around them, all four of them, and below were hearths all around the walls.
24 He said to me, “These are the kitchens where the servants of the house will cook the people’s offering.”
Ezekiel Chapter 47
The healing waters
1 Then he brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and I saw water flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar.
2 He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around by way of the outer gate, outside the gate, to the gate facing east. I saw the water flowing from the south side.
3 The man went out toward the east with a measuring line in his hand. He measured 1,000 cubits and led me through the water, which came up to my ankles.
4 He measured another 1,000 cubits and led me through the water, which came up to my knees. He measured another 1,000 cubits and led me through the water, which came up to my waist.
5 He measured another 1,000 cubits, and it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen so high that it was impossible to cross except by swimming.
6 He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he brought me back along the riverbank.
7 As I was returning, I saw a great many trees on both sides of the riverbank.
8 He said to me, “These waters flow eastward and go down into the Arabah Valley, where they enter the Dead Sea. When they enter the Dead Sea, its waters will become fresh.
9 Wherever the river flows, every living creature that moves will live. There will be a great abundance of fish, because these waters flow there and make the sea fresh; everything that enters the river will live.
10 Fishermen will stand along the riverbank; from En Gedi to En Eglaim they will spread their nets there. The fish will be of many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea.
11 But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will remain salty.
12 Along the riverbank on both sides will grow all kinds of fruit trees, Its leaves will never wither, nor will its fruit fail. It will ripen in its season, because its waters flow from the sanctuary; its fruit will be for food, and its leaves for healing.
Land boundaries and division
13 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: These are the boundaries by which you will divide the land as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. Joseph will have two portions.
14 You will inherit it, one alike; I swore with uplifted hand to give it to your ancestors, and this will be your inheritance.
15 This will be the boundary of the land on the north side: from the Great Sea, along the road from Hethlon to Zedad,
16 Hamath, Berothath, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazar-hatticon, which is the border of Hauran.
17 The northern boundary will extend from the sea to Hazar-enan on the border of Damascus to the north, and to the border of Hamath on the north side.
18 On the east side, between Hauran and Damascus, and between Gilead and the land of Israel, the Jordan; this is the boundary you will measure as far as the eastern sea.
19 On the south side, southward, from Tamar to the Waters of Meribah, from Kadesh and the Brook to the Great Sea; this will be the southern boundary.
20 On the west side, the Great Sea will be the boundary as far as the entrance to Hamath; this will be the western boundary.
21 You shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel.
22 You shall cast lots for your inheritance in it, both for yourselves and for the foreigners residing among you who have fathered children among you. You shall treat them as native-born Israelites, and they shall be allotted a share among the tribes of Israel.
23 In the tribe where the foreigner resides, there you shall give him his inheritance, declares the Lord God.
Ezekiel Chapter 48
1 These are the names of the tribes: From the northern border by way of Hethlon, coming to Hamath, Hazar-enan, on the border of Damascus, northward toward Hamath, Dan will have one portion, from the east side to the west side.
2 Along the border of Dan, from the east side to the sea side, Asher will have one portion.
3 Along the border of Asher, from the east side to the sea side, Naphtali will have another portion.
4 Along the border of Naphtali, from the east side to the sea side, Manasseh will have another portion.
5 Along the border of Manasseh, from the east side to the sea side, Ephraim will have another portion.
6 Along the border of Ephraim, from the east side to the sea side, Reuben will have another portion.
7 Along the border of Reuben, from the east side to the sea side, Judah will have another portion.
8 Along the border of Judah, from the east side to the sea, will be the portion you are to set apart, twenty-five thousand reeds wide and as long as any of the other portions, that is, from the east side to the sea; and the sanctuary will be in the middle of it.
9 The portion you are to set apart for the Lord will be twenty-five thousand reeds long and ten thousand reeds wide.
10 The holy portion that belongs to the priests will be twenty-five thousand reeds on the north side, ten thousand reeds wide on the west side, ten thousand reeds wide on the east side, and twenty-five thousand reeds long on the south side; and the sanctuary of the Lord will be in the middle of it.
11 The consecrated priests of the sons of Zadok, who kept faithfulness to me, who did not err when the children of Israel erred, as the Levites erred,
12 they will have as their most holy portion the portion of the land set apart, next to the border of the Levites’ portion.
13 The Levites’ boundary, adjacent to the priests’ boundary, shall be 25,000 reeds long and 10,000 reeds wide—25,000 reeds in total length and 10,000 reeds in width.
14 They shall not sell any of it, nor exchange it, nor transfer any of the firstfruits of the land, for it is holy to the Lord.
15 The remaining 5,000 reeds of width, out of the 25,000, shall be common land for the city, for habitation and for pastureland, with the city in the middle of it.
16 These shall be its measurements: 4,500 reeds on the north side, 4,500 on the south side, 4,500 on the east side, and 4,500 on the west side.
17And the city’s common land will be two hundred and fifty reeds to the north, two hundred and fifty to the south, two hundred and fifty to the east, and two hundred and fifty to the west.
18 And the remaining length in front of the holy portion, ten thousand reeds to the east and ten thousand to the west, which will be what remains of the holy portion, will be for sowing for those who serve the city.
19 Those who serve the city shall be from all the tribes of Israel.
20 The entire reserved portion, twenty-five thousand reeds by twenty-five thousand squares, you shall set aside as a portion for the sanctuary and for the possession of the city.
21 The prince shall have what remains on either side of the holy portion and the possession of the city, that is, in front of the twenty-five thousand reeds of the portion to the eastern border, and on the west in front of the twenty-five thousand to the western border; in front of the aforementioned portions shall be the prince’s; it shall be a holy portion, and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the middle of it.
22 Thus the prince’s portion shall be that which lies between the portion of the Levites and the portion of the city, between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin.
23 As for the other tribes, from the east side to the sea, Benjamin shall have one portion.
24 Next to the border of Benjamin, from the east side to the sea, Simeon shall have another.
25 Next to the border of Simeon, from the east side to the sea, Issachar shall have another.
26 Next to the border of Issachar, from the east side to the sea, Zebulun shall have another.
27 Next to the border of Zebulun, from the east side to the sea, Gad shall have another.
28 Next to the border of Gad, on the south side, the border shall extend from Tamar to the waters of the Quarrels, and from Kadesh and the brook to the Great Sea.
29 This is the land you are to allot as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these are their allotments, declares the Lord God.
30 These are the city’s exits: on the north side, 4,500 reeds by measure.
31 The city gates will be according to the names of the tribes of Israel: three gates on the north: one Gate of Reuben, one Gate of Judah, and one Gate of Levi.
32 On the east side, 4,500 reeds, and three gates: one Gate of Joseph, one Gate of Benjamin, and one Gate of Dan.
33 On the south side, 4,500 reeds by measure, and three gates: one Gate of Simeon, one Gate of Issachar, and one Gate of Zebulun.
34 On the west side, 4,500 reeds, and its three gates: one Gate of Gad, one Gate of Asher, and one Gate of Judah. the gate of Naphtali, another.
35 It shall have eighteen thousand reeds all around. And the name of the city from that day shall be Jehovah-shammah.
