2 Thessalonians

2 Thessalonians Chapter 1

Greeting

1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

God will judge sinners at the coming of Christ

3 We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is worthy, because your faith is growing, and the love of each and every one of you abounds towards others;
4 so much so that we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God, because of your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endured.
5 This is a demonstration of the righteous judgment of God, so that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.
6 For it is right before God to repay those who trouble you with tribulation,

7 And give you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8 in flames of fire, to give retribution to those who do not know God, nor obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ;
9 who will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, excluded from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power,
10 when he comes in that day to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those who believed (because our testimony has been believed among you).
11 Therefore we also always pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and fulfill every purpose of goodness and every work of faith by his power,
12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you , and you in him, by the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians Chapter 2

Manifestation of the man of sin

1 But concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering to him, we beseech you, brethren,
2 not to be easily moved from your mind, nor to be troubled, either by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as if it were ours, in the sense that the day of the Lord is near.
3 Let no one deceive you in any way; for it will not come unless the apostasy first comes, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition,
4 who opposes and exalts himself against everything that is called God or is worshiped; so much so that he sits in the temple of God as God, showing himself to be God.
5 Don’t you remember that when I was still with you, I told you this?
6 And now you know what holds him back, so that at his due time he may be revealed.
7 For the mystery of iniquity is already at work; Only there is someone who currently stops him, until he in turn is taken out of the way.
8 And then that wicked one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the spirit of his mouth, and destroy with the brightness of his coming;
9 wicked one whose coming is by the work of Satan, with great power and signs and lying wonders,
10 and with all deception of wickedness for those who are perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth to be saved.
11 For this reason God sends them a deceptive power, so that they believe a lie,
12 so that all those who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in unrighteousness, may be condemned.

Chosen for salvation

13 But we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved of the Lord, that God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation, through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth,
14 to which he called you through our gospel, to achieve the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 Therefore, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the doctrine which you have learned, whether by word, or by letter from us.
16 And the same Jesus Christ our Lord, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal consolation and good hope by grace,
17 comfort your hearts, and confirm you in every good word and work.

2 Thessalonians Chapter 3

May the word of God be glorified

1 Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread and be glorified, just as it was among you,
2 and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil men; because it is not everyone’s faith.
3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and protect you from evil.
4 And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord, that you do and will do what we have commanded you.
5 And may the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God, and to the patience of Christ.

The duty to work

6 But we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to separate yourselves from every brother who walks disorderly, and not according to the teaching which you received from us.
7 For you yourselves know in what way you should imitate us; For we did not walk disorderly among you,
8 nor did we eat anyone’s bread for nothing, but we worked with diligence and fatigue day and night, so as not to be a burden to any of you;
9 not because we had no right, but because we ourselves gave you an example so that you would imitate us.
10 For also when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone does not want to work, he should not eat either.
11 For we hear that some among you walk disorderly, not working at anything, but meddling in other people’s affairs.
12 We command and exhort such by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work calmly and eat his own bread.

13 And you, brothers, do not get tired of doing good.
14 If anyone does not obey what we say through this letter, mark him out, and do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.
15 But do not consider him an enemy, but warn him as his brother.

final blessing

16 And the same Lord of peace give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all.
17 The greeting is from my own hand, from Paul, which is the sign in every letter of mine; That’s how I write.
18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
