1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth that is according to godliness,
2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of the ages,
3 and in due time he manifested his word through the preaching that was entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,
4 to Titus, true son in the common faith: Grace, mercy and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
5 For this reason I left you in Crete, so that you could correct what was deficient, and establish elders in each city, just as I commanded you;
6 whoever is blameless, the husband of one wife, and has believing children who are not accused of dissipation or rebellion.
7 For it is necessary that the bishop be blameless, as God’s steward; not arrogant, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not quarrelsome, not greedy for dishonest gain,
8 but hospitable, lover of what is good, temperate, righteous, holy, self-possessed,
9 holding fast to the faithful word as it has been taught, so that he may also exhort with sound teaching and convince those who contradict.
10 For there are still many stubborn people, talkers of vanity and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
11 whose mouths must be covered; who upset entire houses, teaching for dishonest gain what is not convenient.
12 One of them, his own prophet, said: The Cretans, always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons.
13 This testimony is true; Therefore, rebuke them harshly, so that they may be sound in the faith,
14 not paying attention to Jewish fables, nor to the commandments of men who deviate from the truth.
15 All things are pure to the pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; for even his mind and his conscience are corrupted.
16 They profess to know God, but by their actions they deny him, being abominable and rebellious, reprobate of every good work.
1 But you speak what is in accordance with sound doctrine.
2 May the elderly be sober, serious, prudent, healthy in faith, in love, in patience.
3 Older women should also be reverent in their bearing; not slanderers, not slaves of wine, teachers of good;
4 that they teach young women to love their husbands and their children,
5 to be prudent, chaste, careful at home, good, subject to their husbands, so that the word of God will not be blasphemed.
6 Likewise exhort the young people to be prudent;
7 presenting yourself in everything as an example of good works; in teaching showing integrity, seriousness,
8 sound and blameless speech, so that the adversary is ashamed, and has nothing bad to say about you.
9 Exhorts the servants to be subject to their masters, to please in everything, not to be talkative;
10 not defrauding, but showing themselves faithful in everything, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.
11 For the grace of God has appeared for salvation to all men,
12 teaching us that, renouncing ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this age,
13 looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own, zealous for good works.
15 This he speaks, and exhorts, and rebukes with all authority. Nobody belittles you.
1 Remind them to submit to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work.
2 Let them defame no one, let them not be quarrelsome, but kind, showing all meekness toward all men.
3 For we too were once foolish, rebellious, gone astray, slaves to lusts and various pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
4 But when the goodness of God our Savior was revealed, and his love toward men,
5 he saved us, not by works of righteousness that we had done, but by his mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing in the Holy Spirit,
6 whom he poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a faithful word, and I want you to insist firmly on these things, so that those who believe in God may strive to do good works. These things are good and useful to men.
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and discussions about the law; because they are vain and unprofitable.
10 The man who causes divisions, after one and another warning, reject him,
11 knowing that such a one has been perverted, and sins, and is condemned by his own judgment.
12 When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, hasten to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have determined to spend the winter there.
13 Zenas, the lawyer of the law, and Apollos, guide them diligently, so that they lack nothing.
14 And let our people also learn to do good works in times of need, so that they will not be without fruit.
