Daniel chapter 1

Daniel and his companions in Babylon

1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 And the Lord gave into his hands Jehoiakim king of Judah, and part of the vessels of the house of God; and he brought them to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasure house of his god.
3 And the king told Ashpenaz, chief of his eunuchs, to bring from the children of Israel, of the royal line of princes,
4 boys in whom there was no blemish, of good appearance, trained in all wisdom, wise in knowledge and of good understanding, and suitable to be in the king’s palace; and to teach them the letters and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 And the king appointed them a portion for each day, from the king’s provision of food, and of the wine that he drank; and that he should raise them for three years, so that at the end of them they would appear before the king.
6 Among these were Daniel, Ananias, Mishael and Azariah, of the children of Judah.
7 To these the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he named Daniel, Belteshazzar; to Ananias, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and Azariah, Abednego.
8 And Daniel resolved in his heart not to defile himself with the portion of the king’s food, nor with the wine that he drank; He therefore asked the chief eunuch not to force him to defile himself.
9 And God placed Daniel in favor and good will with the chief of the eunuchs;
10 And the chief eunuch said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who appointed your food and your drink; Because as soon as he sees your faces paler than those of the boys who are similar to you, you will condemn my head to the king.
11 Then Daniel said to Melsar, who was appointed chief eunuch over Daniel, Ananias, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 Please test your servants for ten days, and give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. .
13 Then compare our faces with the faces of the boys who eat the king’s portion of food, and then do to your servants as you see.
14 So he agreed with them in this, and tried with them for ten days.

15 And at the end of the ten days their faces seemed better and more robust than those of the other boys who ate the king’s portion of food.

16 So Melsar took their portion of food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them vegetables.

17 To these four boys God gave knowledge and intelligence in all letters and sciences; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 So when the days had passed, at the end of which the king had told them to be brought, the chief of the eunuchs brought them before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 And the king spoke with them, and none were found among them all like Daniel, Ananias, Mishael, and Azariah; So they stood before the king.
20 In every matter of wisdom and intelligence that the king consulted with them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in his entire kingdom.
21 And Daniel continued until the first year of King Cyrus.

Daniel Chapter 2

Daniel interprets Nebuchadnezzar's dream

1 In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams, and his spirit was troubled, and he lost sleep.
2 The king called for magicians, astrologers, enchanters, and Chaldeans, to explain his dreams to him. So they came and stood before the king.
3 And the king said to them, I have had a dream, and my spirit is troubled because I know the dream.
4 Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in the Aramaic language: King, live forever; tell the dream to your servants, and we will show you the interpretation.
5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans: I have forgotten the matter; If you do not show me the dream and its interpretation, you will be torn to pieces, and your houses will be turned into dunghills.
6 And if you show me the dream and its interpretation, you will receive from me gifts and favors and great honor. Tell me, then, the dream and its interpretation.
7 They answered a second time and said, Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and we will show him the interpretation.
8 The king answered and said: I certainly know that you delay, because you see that the matter has gone away from me.
9 If you do not show me the dream, there is only one sentence for you. You certainly prepare a lying and perverse response to say before me, while time passes. Tell me, then, the dream, so that I know that you can give me its interpretation.
10 The Chaldeans answered before the king and said, There is no man on earth who can declare the matter of the king; Besides this, no king, prince or lord asked any such thing of any magician or astrologer or Chaldean.
11 For the matter that the king asks is difficult, and there is no one who can declare it to the king, except the gods whose dwelling is not with the flesh.
12 Therefore the king in anger and with great anger ordered that all the wise men of Babylon be killed.
13 And the edict was published that the wise men should be put to death; and they looked for Daniel and his companions to kill them.
14 Then Daniel spoke wisely and prudently to Arioch, captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon.
15 He spoke and said to Arioch, the king’s captain, “What is the reason for this edict to be published from the king so hastily?” Then Arioch told Daniel what was there.
16 And Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, and that he would show the interpretation to the king.
17 Then Daniel went to his house and reported what was happening to Ananias, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,
18so that they would ask for mercy from the God of heaven regarding this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions would not perish with the other wise men of Babylon.
19 Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision, so Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
20 And Daniel spoke and said, Blessed be the name of God from age to age, for His are power and wisdom.
21 He changes times and ages; he removes kings, and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to the understanding.
22 He reveals what is deep and hidden; He knows what is in darkness, and with him dwells the light.
23 To you, O God of my fathers, I thank you and praise you, because you have given me wisdom and strength, and now you have revealed to me what we ask of you; for you have made known to us the matter of the king.
24 After this Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to kill the wise men of Babylon, and said thus to him: Do not kill the wise men of Babylon; Take me to the king, and I will show him his interpretation.

25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king, and said thus to him: I have found a man of the exiles of Judah, who will give the king the interpretation.
26 The king answered and said to Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar, Can you make known to me the dream that I saw, and the interpretation of it?
27 Daniel answered before the king, saying: Neither wise men, nor astrologers, nor magicians, nor soothsayers can reveal the mystery that the king demands to the king.
28 But there is a God in heaven, who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the last days. Here is your dream, and the visions that you have had in your bed:
29 While you, O king, were in your bed, thoughts came to you to know what would be in the future; and he who reveals mysteries showed you what must be.

30 And this mystery has been revealed to me, not because there is more wisdom in me than in all living things, but that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may understand the thoughts of your heart.
31 You, O king, saw, and behold, a great image. This image, which was very great, and whose glory was very sublime, stood before you, and its appearance was terrible.
32 The head of this image was of fine gold; his chest and arms, of silver; his belly and his thighs, of bronze;
33 his legs, of iron; his feet, partly of iron and partly of baked clay.
34 You were watching until a stone was cut out without hands and struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them into pieces.
35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were also broken into pieces, and they were like chaff from the summer threshing floors, and the wind carried them away without leaving any trace of them. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain that filled the whole earth.
36 This is the dream; We will also tell the interpretation of it in the presence of the king.
37 You, O king, are king of kings; because the God of heaven has given you kingdom, power, strength and majesty.
38 And wherever the sons of men, beasts of the field, and birds of the air dwell, he has given them into your hand, and has given you dominion over everything; you are that head of gold.
39 And after you there will arise another kingdom inferior to yours; and then a third kingdom of bronze, which will rule over the entire earth.
40 And the fourth kingdom will be strong as iron; and as iron breaks and breaks all things, it will break and break everything.
41 And what you see of the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, will be a divided kingdom; but there will be in it some of the strength of iron, just as you saw iron mixed with baked clay.
42 And because the toes are partly iron and partly clay, the kingdom will be partly strong and partly fragile.
43 Just as you saw iron mixed with clay, they will be mixed through human alliances; but they will not be united with each other, as iron does not mix with clay.
44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will raise up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will the kingdom be left to another people; He will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, but he will remain forever,
45Just as you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, breaking into pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold. The great God has shown the king what is to happen in the future; and the dream is true, and the interpretation of it is faithful.
46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and humbled himself before Daniel, and commanded that gifts and incense be offered to him.
47 The king spoke to Daniel, and said, Surely your God is God of gods, and Lord of kings, and the revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.
48 Then the king magnified Daniel, and gave him many honors and great gifts, and made him governor of the entire province of Babylon, and supreme leader of all the wise men of Babylon.
49 And Daniel requested of the king, and obtained that he would appoint Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; and Daniel was in the king’s court.

Daniel Chapter 3

Rescued from the fiery furnace

1 King Nebuchadnezzar made a statue of gold, the height of which was sixty cubits, and the width of it six cubits; He raised it in the field of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
2 And King Nebuchadnezzar sent to assemble the satraps, the magistrates and captains, the auditors, the treasurers, the counselors, the judges, and all the governors of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
3 So the satraps, magistrates, captains, auditors, treasurers, counselors, judges, and all the governors of the provinces were gathered together to the dedication of the statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up; and they stood before the statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
4 And the crier announced with a loud voice: Command you, O peoples, nations and languages,
5 that when you hear the sound of the horn, of the flute, of the drum, of the harp, of the psaltery, of the panpipe and of every instrument of music, fall down and worship the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up;
6 and whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire.
7 Therefore, when all the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the flute, the tambourine, the harp, the psaltery, the panpipe, and every musical instrument, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped. the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
8 Therefore at that time some Chaldean men came and maliciously accused the Jews.
9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, King, live forever.
10 You, O king, have given a law that every man, upon hearing the sound of the trumpet, the flute, the tambourine, the harp, the psaltery, the panpipe and every musical instrument, should fall down and worship the gold statue;
11 and whoever does not fall down and worship, let him be thrown into a furnace of burning fire.
12 There are some Jewish men whom you appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; These men, O king, have not respected you; They do not worship your gods, nor do they worship the golden statue that you have set up.
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar said in anger and wrath to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Immediately these men were brought before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said to them, Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not honor my god, nor worship the golden image that I have set up?
fifteen Now, then, are you prepared so that when you hear the sound of the trumpet, the flute, the tambourine, the harp, the psaltery, the panpipe and every musical instrument, you will fall down and worship the statue that I have made? For if you do not worship it, in the same hour you will be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; And what god will be the one who frees you from my hands?
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, saying, ā€œThere is no need for us to answer you about this matter.
17 Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and from your hand, O king, he will deliver us.
18 And if not, know, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor will we worship the statue you have set up.
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with anger, and his face changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and he ordered the oven to be heated seven times hotter than usual.

20 And he commanded very strong men that he had in his army, to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, to cast them into the burning furnace of fire.
21 Then these men were tied with their cloaks, their leggings, their turbans, and their garments, and they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace.
22 And since the king’s order was urgent, and they had greatly heated him, the flame of the fire killed those who had raised up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell bound into the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was terrified, and he got up quickly and said to his council, Did you not throw three bound men into the fire? They answered the king: It is true, O king.
25 And he said, Behold, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, suffering no harm; and the appearance of the fourth is like the son of the gods.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar approached the door of the burning fiery furnace, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out and come. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire.
27 And the satraps, the governors, the captains, and the king’s counselors gathered together to look at these men, how the fire had had no power over their bodies, not even the hair of their heads had been burned; Their clothes were intact, and they did not even have the smell of fire.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, Blessed be their God, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent his angel and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and who did not obey the king’s edict, and handed over their bodies before serve and worship another god than your God.
29 Therefore I decree that every people, nation, or language that speaks blasphemy against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be torn to pieces, and his house shall be turned into a dunghill; for there is no god who can deliver like this.
30 Then the king exalted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

Daniel Chapter 4

Nebuchadnezzar's madness

1 Nebuchadnezzar king, to all peoples, nations and languages ā€‹ā€‹that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.
2 It is fitting that I declare the signs and miracles that the Most High God has done for me.
3 How great are his signs, and how powerful are his wonders! His kingdom, everlasting kingdom, and his dominion from generation to generation.
4 I Nebuchadnezzar was calm in my house, and flourishing in my palace.
5 I saw a dream that frightened me, and as I lay in bed, the imaginations and visions in my head troubled me.
6 Therefore I ordered all the wise men of Babylon to come before me, to show me the interpretation of the dream.
7 And magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and diviners came, and I told them the dream, but they could not show me its interpretation,
8 until Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar, like the name of my god, and in whom he dwells. the spirit of the holy gods. I told the dream before him, saying:
9 Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, since I have understood that there is in you the spirit of the holy gods, and that no mystery is hidden from you, declare to me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.
10 These were the visions in my head while I was on my bed: I seemed to see a tree in the middle of the earth, the height of which was great.
11 This tree grew and became strong, and its top reached to heaven, and it could be seen from all the ends of the earth.
12 Its foliage was beautiful and its fruit abundant, and there was food in it for everyone. Under it the beasts of the field were placed in the shade, and the birds of the air made their home in its branches, and all flesh was sustained from it.
13 I saw in the visions of my head while I was in my bed, that behold, a watcher and saint descended from heaven.
14 And he cried loudly and said thus: Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, take away its foliage, and scatter its fruit; let the beasts that are under it depart, and the birds from its branches.
15 But you will leave the stump of its roots in the earth, with a bond of iron and bronze among the grass of the field; Let him be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts among the grass of the earth.
16 Let his man’s heart be changed, and the heart of a beast be given to him, and seven times may pass over him.
17 The sentence is by decree of the watchers, and the resolution by the saying of the saints, so that the living may know that the Most High governs the kingdom of men, and that he gives it to whomever he wishes, and appoints the lowest over it. Men’s.
18I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen this dream. You then, Belteshazzar, will tell the interpretation of it, because all the wise men of my kingdom have not been able to show me the interpretation of it; but you can, because the spirit of the holy gods dwells in you.
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for almost an hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke and said: Belteshazzar, do not be troubled by either the dream or the interpretation of it. Belteshazzar answered and said: My lord, let the dream be for your enemies, and the interpretation of it for those who love you ill.
20 The tree that you saw, which grew and became strong, and whose top reached to heaven, and which could be seen from all the ends of the earth,

21 whose foliage was beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in which there was food for all, under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and in whose branches the birds of the air nested,
22 you yourself are, O king, who grew and became You made yourself strong, for your greatness has increased and has reached to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth.
23 And as for what the king saw, a watcher and saint came down from heaven and said, Cut down the tree and destroy it; but you will leave the stump of its roots in the earth, with a bond of iron and bronze in the grass of the field; and let him be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, until seven times pass over him;
24 This is the interpretation, O king, and the sentence of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king:

25 They will drive you out from among men, and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field, and they will feed you with the grass of the field like oxen, and you will be bathed with the dew of heaven; and seven times will pass over you, until you know that the Most High has dominion in the kingdom of men, and that he gives it to whomever he pleases.
26 And as for the command to leave the stump of the roots of the same tree in the earth, it means that your kingdom will remain firm for you, after you recognize that heaven rules.
27 Therefore, O king, accept my advice: redeem your sins with justice, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, for perhaps that will be a prolongation of your tranquility.
28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar.
29 At the end of twelve months, walking in the royal palace of Babylon,
30 the king spoke and said, Is not this the great Babylon that I built for a royal house by the strength of my power, and for the glory of my majesty?
31 The word was still in the king’s mouth, when a voice came from heaven: It is said to you, King Nebuchadnezzar, The kingdom has been taken away from you;
32 and they will cast you out from among men, and your habitation will be with the beasts of the field, and they will feed you like oxen; and seven times will pass over you, until you recognize that the Most High has dominion in the kingdom of men, and he gives it to whomever he wills.
33 In the same hour the word about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled, and he was driven out from among men; and he ate grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew like eagle’s feathers, and his nails like those of birds.
34 But at the end of the time I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my reason was restored to me; and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and glorified him who lives forever, whose dominion is everlasting, and his kingdom to all ages.
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are considered as nothing; and he does according to his will in the host of heaven, and in the inhabitants of the earth, and there is no one who can stay his hand, and say to him, What are you doing?
36 At the same time my reason was restored to me, and the majesty of my kingdom, my dignity and my greatness returned to me, and my governors and my counselors sought me; and I was restored in my kingdom, and greater greatness was added to me.
37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise, magnify and glorify the King of heaven, because all his works are true, and his ways are righteous; and he can humble those who walk in pride.

Daniel Chapter 5

The writing on the wall

1 King Belshazzar made a great banquet for a thousand of his princes, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand.
2 Belshazzar, enjoying the wine, ordered the gold and silver vessels that Nebuchadnezzar his father had brought from the temple in Jerusalem to be brought, so that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines could drink from them. of the.
3 Then the golden vessels which they had brought from the temple of the house of God which was in Jerusalem were brought, and the king and his princes, his wives and his concubines drank from them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone.
5 At that same hour the fingers of a man’s hand appeared, and he was writing before the lampstand on the whitewashed wall of the royal palace, and the king saw the hand that he was writing.
6 Then the king grew pale, and his thoughts troubled him, and his loins grew weak, and his knees knocked against each other.
7 The king shouted with a loud voice to send for magicians, Chaldeans, and diviners; And the king said to the wise men of Babylon: Whoever reads this scripture and shows me its interpretation will be clothed in purple, and will wear a gold necklace around his neck, and will be the third lord in the kingdom.
8 Then all the king’s wise men were brought in, but they could not read the writing or show the king the interpretation of it.
9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and he turned pale, and his princes were perplexed.
10 The queen, at the words of the king and his princes, entered the banquet hall, and said, King, he lives forever; Do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your face pale.
11 In your kingdom there is a man in whom dwells the spirit of the holy gods, and in the days of your father there was found in him light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods; whom King Nebuchadnezzar your father, O king, made chief over all the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans and soothsayers,
12 because in him was found greater spirit and knowledge and understanding, to interpret dreams and decipher riddles and resolve doubts; that is, in Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar. So now call Daniel, and he will give you the interpretation.
13 Then Daniel was brought before the king. And the king said to Daniel, Are you that Daniel of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom my father brought from Judea?
14 I have heard from you that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and that light, understanding and greater wisdom were found in you.
fifteenAnd now wise men and astrologers were brought before me to read this scripture and give me its interpretation; but they have not been able to show me the interpretation of the matter.
16 So I have heard from you that you can give interpretations and resolve difficulties. If you can now read this scripture and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple, and you will wear a gold necklace on your neck, and you will be the third lord in the kingdom.
17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Your gifts be yours, and give your rewards to others. I will read the writing to the king, and give him the interpretation.

18 The Most High God, O king, gave to Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom and greatness, glory and majesty.
19 And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations and languages ā€‹ā€‹trembled and feared before him. Whoever he wanted he killed, and whoever he wanted he gave life; He exalted whoever he wanted, and humiliated whomever he wanted.

20 But when his heart became proud, and his spirit was hardened in his pride, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and stripped of his glory.
21 And he was cast out from among the sons of men, and his mind was made like unto the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses. They made him eat grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he recognized that the Most High God has dominion over the kingdom of men, and that he places over it whomever he pleases.
22 And you, his son Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, knowing all this;
23 But you have become arrogant against the Lord of heaven, and brought before you the vessels of his house, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines, drank wine in them; In addition to this, you gave praise to gods of silver and gold, of bronze, of iron, of wood and of stone, who neither see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is your life, and whose are all your ways, you never honored.
24 Then the hand that wrote this writing was sent from his presence.
25 And the writing that he wrote is: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of the matter: MENE: God has counted your kingdom, and has put an end to it.
27 TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balance, and you were found wanting.
28 PERES: Your kingdom has been broken, and given to the Medes and the Persians.
29 Then Belshazzar ordered to dress Daniel in purple, and to put a gold necklace on his neck, and to proclaim that he was the third lord of the kingdom.
30 The same night Belshazzar king of the Chaldeans was killed.
31 And Darius of Media took the kingdom, being sixty-two years old.

Daniel Chapter 6

Daniel in the lions' den

1 It seemed good to Darius to appoint one hundred and twenty satraps over the kingdom, to rule throughout the kingdom.
2 And over them three governors, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these satraps gave account, so that the king would not be harmed.
3 But Daniel himself was superior to these satraps and governors, because there was a superior spirit in him; and the king thought to put him over the whole kingdom.
4 Then the governors and satraps were looking for an opportunity to accuse Daniel regarding the kingdom; but they could find no occasion or fault, because he was faithful, and no vice or fault was found in him.
5 Then those men said, We will not find any occasion against this Daniel to accuse him, unless we find it against him in relation to the law of his God.
6 Then these governors and satraps gathered together before the king, and said to him thus: King Darius, live forever!
7 All the governors of the kingdom, magistrates, satraps, princes and captains have agreed by council that you should issue a royal edict and confirm it, that whoever in the space of thirty days requests petition from any god or man except you, O king, be thrown into the lions’ den.
8 Now, O king, confirm the edict and sign it, so that it cannot be revoked, according to the law of Media and Persia, which cannot be repealed.
9 So King Darius signed the edict and the prohibition.
10 When Daniel knew that the edict had been signed, he entered his house, and with the windows of his chamber open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he used to do before. .
11 Then those men gathered together, and found Daniel praying and supplicating in the presence of his God.
12 Then they went to the king and told him about the royal edict: Have you not confirmed an edict that whoever in the space of thirty days asks any god or man besides you, O king, should be thrown into the lions’ den? The king answered and said: It is true, according to the law of Media and Persia, which cannot be abrogated.
13 Then they answered and said before the king: Daniel, who is one of the sons of the captives of Judah, does not respect you, O king, nor obey the edict that you confirmed, but three times a day he makes his request.
14 When the king heard the matter, he was very sorry, and he resolved to release Daniel; and until the setting of the sun he worked to deliver him.
15 But those men surrounded the king and said to him: Know, O king, that it is the law of Media and Persia that no edict or ordinance that the king confirms can be abrogated.

16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the lions’ den. And the king said to Daniel, May your God, whom you continually serve, deliver you.
17 And a stone was brought and placed on the door of the den, which the king sealed with his ring and with the ring of his princes, so that the agreement regarding Daniel would not be disturbed.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and went to bed fasting; nor musical instruments were brought before him, and sleep left him.

19 So the king rose early in the morning and hurried to the lions’ den.
20 And coming to the den he called out to Daniel with a sad voice, and said to him, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you continually serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?
21 Then Daniel said to the king, ā€œO king, he lives forever.ā€
22 My God sent his angel, who closed the mouth of the lions, so that they would not harm me, because before him I was found innocent; and even before you, O king, I have done nothing wrong.
23 Then the king was very glad because of him, and he ordered Daniel to be brought out of the den; And Daniel was taken out of the den, and no injury was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
24 And the king gave the order, and those men who had accused Daniel were brought, and they, their sons, and his wives were thrown into the lions’ den; and they had not yet reached the bottom of the den, when the lions seized them and broke all their bones.
25 Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages ā€‹ā€‹that inhabit the whole earth: Peace be multiplied to you.
26 This ordinance is placed on my behalf: That in all the dominion of my kingdom everyone should fear and tremble at the presence of the God of Daniel; for he is the living God and endures forever, and his kingdom will never be destroyed, and his dominion will endure to the end.
27 He saves and delivers, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth; He has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28 And this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and during the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Daniel Chapter 7

Vision of the four beasts

1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream, and visions of his head while he was on his bed; He then wrote down the dream, and related the main point of the matter.
2 Daniel said: I looked in my vision at night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were fighting on the great sea.
3 And four great beasts, one different from the other, came up out of the sea.
4 The first was like a lion, and had the wings of an eagle. I was watching until her wings were torn off, and she was lifted up from the ground and stood on her feet like a man, and she was given the heart of a man.
5 And behold, another second beast, like a bear, stood on one side more than on the other, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and thus it was said unto him, Arise, devour much meat.
6 After this I looked, and behold another, like a leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back; This beast also had four heads; and dominion was given to him.
7 After this I looked in the visions of the night, and behold the fourth beast, frightful and terrible and very strong, which had great teeth of iron; It devoured and broke into pieces, and trampled the remains with its feet, and it was very different from all the beasts that I saw before it, and it had ten horns.
8 While I was looking at the horns, behold, another small horn came up between them, and three of the first horns were plucked out before it; and behold, this horn had eyes like that of a man, and a mouth that spoke great things.
9 I watched until thrones were set up, and an Ancient of days sat down, whose dress was white as snow, and the hair of his head was like clean wool; His throne was a flame of fire, and his wheels were burning fire.
10 A river of fire proceeded and issued from before him; thousands of thousands served him, and millions of millions attended before him; the Judge sat down, and the books were opened.
11 Then I looked because of the sound of the great words that the horn spoke; He watched until the beast was killed, and his body was torn apart and handed over to be burned in the fire.
12 They had also taken away their dominion from the other beasts, but their life had been prolonged for a certain time.
13 I looked in the night vision, and behold, with the clouds of heaven came one like a son of man, who came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And dominion, glory, and kingdom were given to him, that all peoples, nations, and languages ā€‹ā€‹should serve him; His dominion is an eternal dominion, which will never pass away, and his kingdom one that will not be destroyed.
fifteen My spirit, Daniel, was troubled in the midst of my body, and the visions in my head amazed me.
16 I approached one of those who were present and asked him the truth about all this. And he spoke to me, and he made me know the interpretation of things.
17 These four great beasts are four kings that will arise on the earth.

18 Then the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom, and they will possess the kingdom to the ages, forever and ever.
19 Then I desired to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was so different from all the others, very frightening, having teeth of iron and nails of bronze, which it devoured and broke into pieces, and trampled the remains with its feet. ;
20 also concerning the ten horns that were on his head, and the other that had grown out of him, before which three had fallen; and this same horn had eyes, and a mouth that spoke great things, and it seemed larger than its companions.
21 And I saw that this horn made war against the saints, and conquered them,
22 until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High; and the time came, and the saints received the kingdom.
23 Thus he said: The fourth beast will be a fourth kingdom on the earth, which will be different from all other kingdoms, and it will devour, thresh, and tear the entire earth.
24 And the ten horns mean that ten kings will arise from that kingdom; and after them another will rise, who will be different from the first, and will overthrow three kings.
25 And he will speak words against the Most High, and he will break the saints of the Most High, and he will think to change the times and the law; and they will be delivered into his hand until a time, and times, and half a time.
26 But the Judge will sit, and his dominion will be taken away from him, so that he may be destroyed and ruined to the end,
27 and that the kingdom, and the dominion and the majesty of the kingdoms under all heaven, may be given to the people of the saints. of the Most High, whose kingdom is an eternal kingdom, and all dominions will serve and obey him.
28 Here was the end of his words. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts troubled me and my face changed; but I kept the matter in my heart.

Daniel Chapter 8

Vision of the ram and the goat

1 In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after the one that had appeared to me before.
2 I saw in vision; and when I saw her, I was in Susa, which is the capital of the kingdom in the province of Elam; So I saw in vision, standing by the river Ulai.
3 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a ram stood before the river, and it had two horns; and although the horns were high, one was higher than the other; and the tallest grew afterwards.
4 I saw that the ram struck with its horns to the west, to the north, and to the south, and that no beast could stand before it, nor was there any that could escape its power; and he did according to his will, and he became great.
5 While I was considering this, behold, a goat was coming from the west over the face of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and that goat had a notable horn between its eyes.
6 And he came to the two-horned ram, which I had seen on the bank of the river, and ran against him with the fury of his strength.
7 And I saw him come to the ram, and he rose up against him and smote him, and broke his two horns, and the ram had no strength to stand before him; So he struck it down to the ground and trampled it, and there was no one to rescue the ram from its power.
8 And the goat became exceedingly great; But when he was in his greatest strength, that great horn was broken, and in its place there came forth four other notable horns toward the four winds of heaven.
9 And from one of them came a small horn, which grew far to the south, and to the east, and toward the glorious land.
10 And he magnified himself to the host of heaven; and he cast down part of the army and the stars to the ground, and trampled them under foot.
11 He even magnified himself against the prince of hosts, and through him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was thrown to the ground.
12 And because of the transgression the army was given to him along with the daily sacrifice; and he cast down the truth, and did whatever he wanted, and prospered.
13 Then I heard a saint speaking; and another of the saints asked him who spoke: How long will the vision of the continual sacrifice last, and the desolating prevarication giving up the sanctuary and the army to be trampled?
14 And he said: Until two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be purified.
15 And it came to pass, as I Daniel considered the vision and sought to understand it, behold, there stood before me one in the appearance of a man.
16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, shouting and saying, Gabriel, show this man the vision.
17He then came near where I was; and at his coming I was amazed, and I fell on my face. But he said to me, Understand, son of man, for the vision is for the time of the end.

18 While he was speaking with me, I fell asleep on the ground on my face; and he touched me, and made me stand.
19 And he said, Behold, I will teach you what is to come at the end of wrath; because that is for the time of the end.
20 As for the ram which he saw, which had two horns, these are the kings of Media and Persia.
21 The goat is the king of Greece, and the great horn that was between his eyes is the first king.
22 And as for the horn that was broken, and four took its place, it means that four kingdoms will arise from that nation, although not with the strength of it.
23 And at the end of their reign, when the transgressors have reached the end, there will arise a king who is proud of his countenance and understands riddles.
24 And his power will be strengthened, but not by his own strength; and he will cause great ruin, and prosper, and will do wantonly, and destroy the strong and the people of the saints.
25 By his sagacity he will make deception prosper in his hand; and in his heart it will be magnified, and without warning it will destroy many; and he will rise against the Prince of princes, but he will be broken, though not by human hands.
26 The vision of the evenings and mornings that he has referred to is true; and keep the vision, for it is for many days.
27 And I Daniel was broken, and I was sick for some days, and when I recovered, I attended to the king’s business; but he was terrified because of the vision, and he did not understand it.

Daniel Chapter 9

Daniel's prayer for his people

1 In the first year of Darius son of Ahasuerus, of the nation of the Medes, who became king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans,
2 in the first year of his reign, I Daniel carefully looked in the books at the number of the years of which Jehovah spoke to the prophet Jeremiah, that the desolations of Jerusalem were to be fulfilled in seventy years.
3 And I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him in prayer and supplication, in fasting, sackcloth and ashes.
4 And I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying: Now, Lord, great God, worthy to be feared, who keeps covenant and mercy with those who love you and keep your commandments;
5 we have sinned, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly, and we have been rebellious, and have departed from your commandments and your ordinances.
6 We have not obeyed your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, to our princes, to our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
7 Yours, Lord, is righteousness, and ours is the confusion of countenance, as today every man of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those near and those far away, in all the lands where You have driven them out because of their rebellion with which they rebelled against you.
8 O Lord, ours is the confusion of countenance, of our kings, of our princes, and of our fathers; because we sinned against you.
9 It is the Lord our God to be merciful and to forgive, although we have rebelled against him,
10 and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws which he set before us through his servants the prophets. .
11 All Israel transgressed your law by turning away from obeying your voice; Therefore the curse and the oath have fallen upon us, which is written in the law of Moses, the servant of God; because we sinned against him.
12 And he has fulfilled the word that he spoke against us and against our leaders who ruled over us, bringing such great evil upon us; for nothing like what was done against Jerusalem was ever done under heaven.
13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil came upon us; and we have not implored the favor of the Lord our God, to turn from our iniquities and understand your truth.
14 Therefore the LORD watched over evil and brought it upon us; For the Lord our God is righteous in all his works that he has done, because we did not obey his voice.
15 Now then, Lord our God, you brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made yourself a name such as you have today; we have sinned, we have done ungodly.
16O Lord, according to all your acts of justice, let your wrath and your fury now turn away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; because because of our sins, and because of the wickedness of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people are the reproach of all around us.
17 Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplication; and make your face shine upon your desolate sanctuary, for the Lord’s sake.
18 Incline your ear, O my God, and hear; He opens your eyes, and see our desolations, and the city upon which your name is called; for we do not raise our supplications to you trusting in our righteousness, but in your many mercies.
19 Hear, Lord; oh Lord, forgive; Listen, Lord, and do it; Do not delay, for the love of yourself, my God; for your name is called upon your city and upon your people.

Seventy weeks prophecy

20 I was still speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and pouring out my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God;
21 I was still speaking in prayer, when the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, flying with alacrity, came to me about the time of the evening sacrifice.
22 And he made me understand, and he spake with me, saying, Daniel, now I have come out to give you wisdom and understanding.
23 At the beginning of your prayers the command was given, and I have come to teach it to you, because you are greatly loved. So understand the order, and understand the vision.
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in lasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and the prophecy, and to anoint the Holy One of all. Saints.
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince, there will be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks; The plaza and the wall will be built again in distressing times.
26 And after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be killed, but not for himself; and the people of a prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary; and its end will be with a flood, and until the end of the war the devastations will last.
27 And for another week he will confirm the covenant with many; In the middle of the week he will stop the sacrifice and offering. Then with the multitude of abominations will come the desolator, until the consummation comes, and what is determined is poured out on the desolator.

Daniel Chapter 10

Vision of Daniel by the river

1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a word was revealed to Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar; and the word was true, and the conflict great; but he understood the word, and had understanding in the vision.
2 In those days I, Daniel, was afflicted for three weeks.
3 I did not eat delicate food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I anoint myself with ointment, until the three weeks were completed.
4 And on the twenty-fourth day of the first month I was on the bank of the great river Hidekel.
5 And I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with his loins girded with gold from Uphaz.
6 His body was like beryl, and his face was like lightning, and his eyes were like torches of fire, and his arms and his feet were like the color of polished bronze, and the sound of his words was like the sound of a thunderbolt. a crowd.
7 And I alone, Daniel, saw that vision, and the men who were with me did not see it, but great fear took hold of them, and they fled and hid.
8 So I was left alone, and I saw this great vision, and there was no strength left in me, but my strength turned into weakness, and I had no strength at all.
9 But I heard the sound of his words; and hearing the sound of his words, I fell on my face in a deep sleep, with my face on the ground.
10 And behold, a hand touched me, and made me stand on my knees and on the palms of my hands.
11 And he said to me: Daniel, man much loved, pay attention to the words that I speak to you, and stand up; for to you I have now been sent. As he spoke this to me, I stood up trembling.
12 Then he said to me, Daniel, do not be afraid; because from the first day that you prepared your heart to understand and humble yourself in the presence of your God, your words were heard; and because of your words I have come.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days; but behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
14 I have come to let you know what is coming to your people in the last days; because the vision is for those days.
15 While he was saying these words to me, I was with my eyes fixed on the ground, and I was speechless.

16 But behold, one in the likeness of a son of man touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke, and said to him who stood before me: My Lord, with the vision pain has come upon me, and I have no strength left.
17 How then can my lord’s servant speak to my lord? Because instantly my strength failed, and I had no breath left.
18 And he who had the likeness of a man touched me again, and he strengthened me,
19 and said to me, Dearly beloved, do not be afraid; Peace be with you; strive and encourage yourself. And while he spoke to me, I regained my strength, and said: Speak my lord, for you have strengthened me.
20 He said to me: Do you know why I have come to you? Well now I have to return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I finish with him, the prince of Greece will come.
21 But I will declare to you what is written in the book of truth; and no one helps me against them, but Michael your prince.

Daniel Chapter 11

1 And I myself, in the first year of Darius the Mede, was there to encourage him and strengthen him.

The kings of the north and the south

2 And now I will show you the truth. Behold, there will still be three kings in Persia, and the fourth will acquire greater wealth than all of them; and by becoming strong with his riches, he will raise up everyone against the kingdom of Greece.
3 Then a mighty king will arise, who will rule with great power and do his will.
4 But when he has arisen, his kingdom will be broken and scattered to the four winds of heaven; not according to his descendants, nor according to the dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom will be taken away, and it will be for others besides them.
5 And the king of the south will become strong; but one of his princes will be stronger than he, and will become powerful; His dominion will be great.
6 After years they will make an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the south will come to the king of the north to make peace. But she will not be able to retain the strength of his arm, nor will he remain, nor his arm; for she will be handed over, and those who had brought her, also her son, and those who were on her side at that time.
7 But a branch of his roots will arise on his throne, and will come with an army against the king of the north, and will enter the stronghold, and will do his will among them, and will prevail.
8 And even their gods, their molten images and their precious objects of silver and gold, he will take captive to Egypt; and for years he will stand against the king of the north.
9 So the king of the south will enter the kingdom, and he will return to his land.
10 But his sons will be angry, and they will gather a multitude of great armies; and he will come in haste and flood, and pass on; then he will return and carry the war to his stronghold.
11 Therefore the king of the south will be angry, and he will go out and fight against the king of the north; and he will set out a great multitude, and all that multitude will be delivered into his hand.
12 And when he carries away the multitude, his heart will be lifted up, and he will overthrow many thousands; but he will not prevail.
13 And the king of the north will again field a greater multitude than the first, and after a few years he will come in haste with a large army and with much wealth.
14 In those times many will rise up against the king of the south; and turbulent men of your people will rise to fulfill the vision, but they will fall.
15 Therefore the king of the north will come, and he will build ramparts, and take the strong city; and the southern forces will not be able to sustain themselves, nor will their chosen troops, because there will be no strength to resist.
16 And he who will come against him will do his will, and there will be no one who can stand against him; and he will be in the glorious land, which will be consumed by his power.
17He will then establish his face to come with the power of his entire kingdom; and he will make covenants with that one, and will give him a daughter of women to destroy him; but she will not remain, nor will she succeed.
18 He will then turn his face to the coasts, and will take many; but a prince will cause his disgrace to cease, and even his reproach will return upon him.
19 Then he will turn his face to the strongholds of his land; but he will stumble and fall, and will not be found.
20 And there will arise in his place one who will make a tax collector pass for the glory of the kingdom; but in a few days he will be broken, though not in wrath, nor in battle.
21 And a despicable man will succeed him in his place, to whom they will not give the honor of the kingdom; but he will come without warning and take the kingdom with flattery.

22 The enemy’s forces will be swept away before him as with a flood of waters; They will be completely destroyed, along with the prince of the covenant.
23 And after the covenant with him, he will deceive and go up, and will be victorious with a few people.
24 When the province is in peace and abundance, he will go in and do what his parents did not do, nor his parents’ parents did; He will distribute booty, spoils and riches to his soldiers, and against the fortresses he will form his plans; and this for a while.

25 And he will stir up his strength and his fervor against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south will engage in war with a large and very strong army; but he will not prevail, because they will betray him.

26 Even those who eat his food will break him; and his army will be destroyed, and many will fall dead.
27 The hearts of these two kings will be to do evil, and at one table they will speak lies; but it will be of no use, because the deadline will not have arrived yet.
28 And he will return to his land with great wealth, and his heart will be against the holy covenant; He will do his will, and return to his land.
29 At the appointed time he will return to the south; but he will not be the last coming as the first.
30 For ships from Chittim will come against him, and he will be grieved, and will return, and will be angry against the holy covenant, and will do according to his will; He will return, therefore, and he will understand those who abandon the holy covenant.
31 And troops will arise from his side and will desecrate the sanctuary and the stronghold, and will take away the daily sacrifice, and will set up the abomination of desolation.
32 He will seduce the violators of the covenant with flattery; but the people who know their God will strive and act.
33 And the wise men of the people will instruct many; and for a few days they will fall by sword and fire, into captivity and plunder.
34 And in their fall they will be helped with little help; and many will join them with flattery.
35 Also some of the wise will fall to be purified and cleansed and made white, until the appointed time; because even for this there is a deadline.
36 And the king will do his will, and will be exalted, and will magnify himself above every god; and against the God of gods he will speak wonders, and prosper, until the wrath is finished; because what is determined will be fulfilled.
37 He will not pay attention to the God of his parents, nor to the love of women; nor will he respect any god, because above all he will exalt himself.
38 But he will honor in his place the god of might, a god whom his fathers did not know; He will honor him with gold and silver, with precious stones and with things of great price.
39 With a foreign god he will make the most impregnable fortresses, and he will shower honor on those who recognize him, and he will divide the land for a price.
40 But at the end of time the king of the south will contend with him; and the king of the north will rise against him like a storm, with chariots and horsemen, and many ships; and he will enter into the lands, and flood, and pass over.
41 He will enter the glorious land, and many provinces will fall; but these will escape from his hand: Edom and Moab, and most of the children of Ammon.
42 He will stretch out his hand against the lands, and the land of Egypt will not escape.
43 And he will take possession of the treasures of gold and silver, and of all the precious things of Egypt; and those of Libya and Ethiopia will follow him.
44But news from the east and the north will frighten him, and he will go out in great anger to destroy and kill many.
45 And he will pitch the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious and holy mountain; but he will come to his end, and he will have no one to help him.

Daniel Chapter 12

The time of the end

1 At that time Michael will arise, the great prince who is on the side of the children of your people; and it will be a time of trouble, such as has never been since there was people until then; But at that time your people will be delivered, all who are found written in the book.
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awaken, some to eternal life, and others to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the firmament; and those who teach righteousness to many, like the stars forever and ever.
4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will run to and fro, and knowledge will increase.
5 And I Daniel looked, and behold, two others were standing, one on this side of the river, and the other on the other side of the river.
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was standing on the waters of the river, When will be the end of these wonders?
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, standing over the waters of the river, who lifted up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by him who lives forever, that it will be for a time, times, and half of a time. And when the dispersion of the power of the holy people is ended, all these things will be fulfilled.
8 And I heard, but I did not understand. And I said: My Lord, what will be the end of these things?
9 He answered: Go, Daniel, for these words are closed and sealed until the time of the end.
10 Many will be clean, and made white and purified; The wicked will act wickedly, and none of the wicked will understand, but the wise will understand.

11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away until the abomination of desolation, there will be one thousand two hundred and ninety days.
12 Blessed is he who waits and reaches one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
13 And you will go to the end, and you will rest, and you will arise to receive your inheritance at the end of the days.
