1 Since many have already tried to put in order the history of the things that have been most true among us,
2 just as those who from the beginning saw it with their eyes and were ministers of the word taught us,
3 I have It is also like me, after having diligently investigated all things from their origin, to write them to you in order, O most excellent Theophilus,
4 so that you may know well the truth of the things in which you have been instructed.
5 There was in the days of Herod king of Judea a priest named Zechariah, of the class of Abijah; His wife was one of Aaron’s daughters, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 They were both righteous before God, and walked blameless in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.
7 But they had no son, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both already old.
8 It came to pass, as Zechariah was exercising the priesthood before God according to the order of his class,
9 according to the custom of the priesthood, that it was his lot to offer incense, entering the sanctuary of the Lord.
10 And all the people of the people were outside praying at the time of incense.
11 And an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear came upon him.
13 But the angel said to him, Zechariah, do not be afraid; for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call her name John.
14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth;
15 because he will be great before God. He will not drink wine or strong drink, and will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 And he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and of the rebellious to the prudence of the righteous, to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.
18 Zechariah said to the angel, How shall I know this? Because I am old, and my wife is of advanced age.
19 And the angel answered and said unto him, I am Gabriel, who stand before God; and I have been sent to speak to you, and to give you this good news.
20 And now you will be dumb and will not be able to speak, until the day when this is done, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.
21 And the people were waiting for Zechariah, and were surprised that he tarried in the sanctuary.
22 But when he went out, he could not speak to them; and they understood that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. He spoke to them by signs, and he remained mute.
23 And when the days of his ministry were completed, he went to his house.
24 After those days he conceived his wife Elizabeth, and he secluded himself at home for five months, saying:
25 Thus has the Lord done to me in the days when he deigned to take away my disgrace among men.
26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.
28 And the angel came in where she was, and said, Hail, highly favored one! The Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.
29 But when she saw him, she was troubled by her words, and she thought what greeting this would be.
30 Then the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 And now you will conceive in your womb, and give birth to a son, and you will call his name JESUS.
32 This one will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father;
33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.
34 Then Mary said to the angel: How will this be? Well, I don’t know a man.
35 The angel answered and said to him, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore also the Holy Being who will be born will be called the Son of God.
36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth, she also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month for her, who was called barren;
37 because nothing is impossible with God.
38 Then Mary said, Behold, the servant of the Lord; Let it be done to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her presence.
39 In those days, Mary arose and went with haste to the mountain, to a city of Judah;
40 she and she entered Zechariah’s house, and greeted Elizabeth.
41 And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
42 And she cried with a loud voice, and said, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
43 Why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord come to me?
44 For as soon as the voice of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped for joy in my womb.
45 And blessed is she who believed, because what was said to her from the Lord will be fulfilled.
46 Then Mary said:
47 And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
48 For he has seen the lowliness of his servant; For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.
49 For he, the Mighty One, has done great things for me; Holy is his name,
50 And his mercy is from generation to generation To those who fear him.
51 She did mighty things with his arm; She scattered the proud in the thought of her hearts.
52 She removed the powerful from their thrones, And exalted the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.
54 She helped Israel his servant, Remembering the mercy
55 Of which she spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.
56 And Mary stayed with her about three months; Then she returned to her house.
57 When Elizabeth’s time for giving birth was complete, she gave birth to a son.
58 And when her neighbors and her relatives heard that God had magnified her mercy toward her, they rejoiced with her.
59 It came to pass on the eighth day that they came to circumcise the child; and they called him by the name of his father, Zechariah;
60 But her mother answered and said, No; He will be called Juan.
61 They said to him: Why? There is no one in your family called by that name.
62 Then they asked her father by signs what he wanted to call him.
63 And asking for a tablet, she wrote, saying: John is his name. And everyone was amazed.
64 Immediately her mouth was opened and her tongue loosed, and she spoke, blessing God.
65 And all her neighbors were filled with fear; and all these things were made known in all the mountains of Judea.
66 And all who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, Who then is this child? And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 And Zechariah his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:
68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, Who has visited and redeemed his people,
69 And raised up for us a mighty Savior In the house of David his servant,
70 As He spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who were from the beginning;
71 Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all those who hated us;
72 To show mercy to our fathers, And remember his holy covenant;
73 Of the oath he swore to Abraham our father, That he would grant us
74 That, freed from our enemies, We would serve him without fear
75 In holiness and in righteousness before him, all our days.
76 And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; For you will go before the presence of the Lord, to prepare his ways;
77 To give knowledge of salvation to his people, For the forgiveness of their sins,
78 For the tender mercy of our God, With which the dawn visited us from on high,
79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death ; To guide our feet along the path of peace.
80 And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he was in desert places until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
1 It came to pass in those days that an edict was issued by Augustus Caesar that everyone should be registered.
2 This first census was taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
3 And they all went to be registered, each one to his city.
4 And Joseph went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;
5 to be registered with Mary his wife, espoused to him, who was pregnant.
6 And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days of her birth were fulfilled.
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
8 There were shepherds in the same region, who kept watch and kept night watches over their flock.
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were greatly afraid.
10 But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; For behold, I give you tidings of great joy, which will be for all the people:
11 That to you has been born today in the city of David a Savior, who is CHRIST the Lord.
12 This will be a sign for you: You will find the child wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying:
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!
15 It came to pass, when the angels had gone from them to heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, Let us go, therefore, to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has taken place, and which the Lord has shown us.
16 So they came quickly and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger.
17 And when they saw it, they made known what they had been told about the child.
18 And all who heard were amazed at what the shepherds told them.
19 But Mary kept all these things, meditating on them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, as they had been told.
21 After eight days had elapsed to circumcise the child, they named him JESUS, which had been given to him by the angel before he was conceived.
22 And when the days of their purification were completed, according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male who opens the womb will be called holy to the Lord ),
24 and to offer according to what is said in the law of the Lord: A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man, righteous and devout, waited for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Anointed.
27 And moved by the Spirit, he came to the temple. And when the parents of the child Jesus brought him to the temple, to do for him according to the rite of the law,
28 he took him in his arms, and blessed God, saying:
29 Now, Lord, send your servant away in peace, According to your word;
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 Which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples;
32 Light for revelation to the Gentiles, And glory for your people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother were amazed at all that was said about him.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to his mother Mary, Behold, this man is appointed for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be contradicted
35 (and a sword will pierce your very soul), that they may be revealed. the thoughts of many hearts.
36 Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, was also there, very advanced in age, for she had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity,
37 and had been a widow for eighty-four years; and she did not depart from the temple, serving night and day with fasting and prayers.
38 She was there, appearing at the same hour, she gave thanks to God, and she spoke of the child to all those who were waiting for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 After they had fulfilled everything prescribed in the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their city of Nazareth.
40 And the child grew and became strong, and was filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him.
41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year for the Passover festival;
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the festival.
43 When they returned, after the festival, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem, without Joseph and his mother knowing.
44 And thinking that he was among the company, they journeyed for a day; and they looked for him among his relatives and acquaintances;
45 But when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem looking for him.
46 And it came to pass that three days later they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers of the law, listening to them and questioning them.
47 And all who heard him marveled at his intelligence and at his answers.
48 When they saw him, they were surprised; And his mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? Behold, your father and I have searched for you in anguish.
49 Then he said to them, Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be involved in my Father’s business?
50 But they did not understand the words that he spoke to them.
51 And he went down with them, and returned to Nazareth, and he was subject to them. And his mother kept all these things in his heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
1 In the fifteenth year of the empire of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and the province of Trachonite, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilinia,
2 and Annas being high priests and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, son of Zechariah, in the desert.
3 And he went throughout the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
4 as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, saying: Voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight his paths.
5 Every valley will be filled, And every mountain and hill will be lowered; The crooked paths will be made straight, And the rough paths made smooth;
6 And all flesh will see the salvation of God.
7 And he said to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him: O generation of vipers! Who has shown you how to run away from the coming rage?
8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; because I tell you that God is able to raise children to Abraham even from these stones.
9 And now the ax is also placed at the root of the trees; Therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
10 And the people asked him, saying, What then shall we do?
11 And answering, he said to them, He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none; and he who has something to eat, do the same.
12 Some publicans also came to be baptized, and said to him, Master, what shall we do?
13 He said to them: Do not demand more than what is commanded you.
14 Some soldiers also asked him, saying, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, Do not extort anyone, nor slander; and be content with your wages.
15 As the people were in expectation, all wondering in their hearts whether John was the Christ,
16 John answered, saying to them all, I truly baptize you with water; But one more powerful than I is coming, whose strap I am not worthy to untie; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
17 His fan is in his hand, and he will cleanse his threshing floor, and gather the wheat into his barn, and burn the chaff with fire that will never be quenched.
18 With these and many other exhortations he announced the good news to the people.
19 Then Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by John because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done,
20Above all of them, he also added this: he locked Juan in prison.
21 It came to pass, when all the people were baptized, that Jesus also was baptized; and as he prayed, heaven was opened,
22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove, and a voice came from heaven saying, You are my beloved Son; I am pleased with you.
23 Jesus himself at the beginning of his ministry was about thirty years old, the son, it was believed, of Joseph, son of Eli,
24 son of Mattath, son of Levi, son of Melchi, son of Hana, son of Joseph,
25 son of Mattathias, son of Amos, son of Nahum, son of Esli, son of Nagai,

28 son of Melki, son of Adi, son of Cosam, son of Elmodam, son of Er,
29 son of Joshua, son of Eliezer, son of Jorim, son of Matat,
30 son of Levi, son of Simeon, son of Judah, son of Joseph, son of Jonan, son of Eliakim,
31 son of Melea, son of Mainan, son of Matatah, son of Nathan,
32 son of David, son of Jesse, son of Obed, son of Boaz, son of Salmon, son of Nahshon,
33 son of Aminadab, son of Aram, son of Esrom, son of Perez, son of Judah,
34 son of Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham, son of Terah, the son of Nahor,
35 the son of Serug, the son of Ragau, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,
36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,
37 son of Methuselah, son of Enoch, son of Jared, son of Mahalaleel, son of Cainan,
38 son of Enos, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.
1 Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness
2 for forty days, and was tempted by the devil. And he did not eat anything in those days, after which he was hungry.
3 Then the devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.
4 Jesus answered him and said, It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5 And the devil took him to a high mountain, and showed him in a moment all the kingdoms of the earth.
6 And the devil said unto him, I will give thee all this power, and their glory; because it has been given to me, and to whomever I want I give it.
7 If you fall down and worship me, all will be yours.
8 Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here below;
10 for it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, to keep you;
11 and, In their hands they will support you, So that you do not strike your foot against a stone.
12 Jesus answered and said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the test.
13 And when the devil had put an end to all temptation, he departed from him for a time.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and his fame spread throughout all the surrounding country.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, and was glorified by all.
16 He came to Nazareth, where he had been raised; And on the Sabbath day he entered the synagogue, according to his custom, and stood up to read.
17 And he was given the book of the prophet Isaiah; and having opened the book, he found the place where it was written:
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted; To proclaim freedom to the captives, And sight to the blind; To set the oppressed free;
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And rolling up the book, he gave it to the minister, and sat down; and the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21 And he began to say to them: Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your sight.
22 And they all gave good testimony of him, and were amazed at the words of grace that came out of his mouth, and said, Is not this the son of Joseph?
23 He said to them: No doubt you will tell me this proverb: Physician, heal yourself; Of so many things that we have heard that have been done in Capernaum, do also here in your land.
24 And he added, Truly I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own land.
25 And truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when heaven was closed for three years and six months, and there was a great famine in all the land;
26 But to none of them was Elijah sent, but to a widow in Zarephath of Sidon.
27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; but none of them was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.
28 When everyone in the synagogue heard these things, they were filled with anger;
29 And they got up and threw him out of the city, and took him to the top of the mountain on which their city was built, to throw him off the cliff.
30 But he passed through their midst and departed.
31 Jesus went down to Capernaum, a city in Galilee; and he taught them on the Sabbath days.
32 And they were amazed at his doctrine, because his word was authoritative.
33 There was a man in the synagogue who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,
34 saying, Leave us; What do you have with us, Nazarene Jesus? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be still, and come out of him. Then the demon, striking him down among them, came out of him and did him no harm.
36 And they were all amazed, and spoke one to another, saying, What word is this, that with authority and power commands unclean spirits, and they come out?
37 And his fame spread throughout all the surrounding places.
38 Then Jesus arose and left the synagogue, and entered Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law had a great fever; and they prayed for her.
39 And bowing down to her, he rebuked her fever; and her fever left her, and she arose from it immediately, and she served them.
40 When the sun was setting, all those who were sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on each of them and healed them.
41 Demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, You are the Son of God. But he rebuked them and did not let them speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 When it was day, he left and went to a desert place; and the people looked for him, and when they came to where he was, they stopped him so that he would not leave them.
43 But he said to them, “I must also announce the gospel of the kingdom of God to other cities; because for this I have been sent.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
1 It came to pass, as Jesus was by the lake of Gennesaret, that the crowd gathered around him to hear the word of God.
2 And he saw two boats standing near the shore of the lake; and the fishermen, having descended from them, washed their nets.
3 And entering into one of those boats, which belonged to Simon, he begged him to put it away from the land a little; and sitting down, he taught the crowd from the boat.
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and let down your nets to catch fish.
5 Simon answered and said to him, Master, we have been working all night, and have caught nothing; but at your word I will cast the net.
6 And when they had done so, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and his net was breaking.
7 Then they signaled to their companions who were in the other boat to come and help them; And they came and filled both boats so that they sank.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell on his knees before Jesus, saying, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.
9 For because of the fishing they had caught, fear had taken hold of him, and of all those who were with him,
10 and also of James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were companions of Simon. But Jesus said to Simon: Do not be afraid; From now on you will be a fisher of men.
11 And when they brought the boats ashore, they left everything and followed him.
12 It happened that while he was in one of the cities, there appeared a man full of leprosy, who, seeing Jesus, fell down with his face to the ground and begged him, saying, Lord, if you wish, you can cleanse me.
13 Then he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, I will; Be clean. And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 And he commanded him not to tell anyone; But go, he said, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your purification, as Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.
15 But his fame spread more and more; and many people gathered to hear him, and to be healed of their illnesses.
16 But he withdrew to desert places and prayed.
17 It came to pass one day that he was teaching, and the Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting, who had come from all the villages of Galilee, and from Judea and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was with him to heal.
18 And it came to pass that some men, who were bringing a man who was paralyzed on a bed, sought to take him inside and lay him before him.
19 But not finding how to do it because of the crowd, they went up on top of the house, and they lowered him and the bed through the roof, placing him in the middle before Jesus.
20 When he saw their faith, he said to him: Man, your sins are forgiven you.
21 Then the scribes and the Pharisees began to ponder, saying, Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but only God?
22 Jesus then, knowing their thoughts, answered and said to them: What do you ponder in your hearts?
23 Which is easier, to say: Your sins are forgiven you, or to say: Get up and walk?
24 So that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins (he said to the paralytic): I say to you: Get up, take up your bed, and go to your house.
25 Immediately he got up in their presence and took up the bed on which he was lying, and went home, glorifying God.
26 And everyone, overcome with amazement, glorified God; and full of fear, they said: Today we have seen wonders.
27 After these things he went out and saw a publican named Levi sitting at the tax bench, and he said to him, Follow me.
28 And leaving everything, he got up and followed him.
29 And Levi made a great banquet for him in his house; and there was a great company of publicans and others who were at table with them.
30 And the scribes and the Pharisees murmured against the disciples, saying, Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?
31 Jesus answered and said to them, Those who are healthy do not need a doctor, but the sick do.
32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
33 Then they said to him, Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers, and also those of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?
34 He said to them, Can you make those who are at the wedding fast while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come when the husband will be taken away from them; then in those days they will fast.
36 He also told them a parable: No one cuts a piece of a new garment and puts it on an old garment; For if he does so, not only does he break the new one, but the patch taken from it does not harmonize with the old one.
37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; Otherwise the new wine will break the wineskins and spill out, and the wineskins will be lost.
38 But new wine must be poured into new wineskins; and both are preserved.
39 And no one who drinks of the old wants the new afterwards; for he says: The old is better.
1 It happened on a Sabbath day that Jesus was passing through the fields, and his disciples plucked ears of grain and ate, rubbing them with their hands.
2 And some of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?
3 Jesus answered and said to them, Have you not even read this, what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry?
4 how he entered into the house of God, and took the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and ate, and also gave to those who were with him?
5 And he said to them, The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.
6 It came to pass also on another Sabbath day, that he entered the synagogue and taught; And a man was there whose right hand was withered.
7 And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath day, so that they might find something to accuse him of.
8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, Arise, and stand in the midst. And he arose and stood on his feet.
9 Then Jesus said to them, I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do evil? save life, or take it?
10 And looking at them all around, he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he did so, and his hand was restored.
11 And they were filled with fury, and talked among themselves what they could do against Jesus.
12 In those days he went to the mountain to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
13 And when it was day, he called his disciples, and chose twelve of them, whom he also called apostles:
14 Simon, whom he also called Peter, Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon called Zealot,
16 Judas brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became the traitor.
17 And he went down with them, and stood in a level place, in the company of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coast of Tire, and from Sidon, who had come to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;
18 and those who had been tormented by unclean spirits were healed.
19 And all the people sought to touch him, because power came out of him and healed everyone.
20 And lifting up his eyes toward his disciples, he said, Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
22 Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they separate you from themselves, and revile you, and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
23 Rejoice on that day, and be glad, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; because that is what their fathers did with the prophets.
24 But woe to you rich! because you already have your consolation.
25 Woe to you who are now full! because you will be hungry. Woe to you, those who laugh now! because you will regret and cry.
26 Woe to you, when all men speak well of you! because that is what their fathers did with the false prophets.
27 But to you who hear, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you;
28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who slander you.
29 To him who smites you on one cheek, turn the other also; and from the one who takes away your cloak, do not deny him even your tunic.
30 Give to anyone who asks you; And do not ask whoever takes what is yours to give it back to you.
31 And as you would have men do to you, so do you also to them.
32 For if you love those who love you, what credit is it to you? Because sinners also love those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Because sinners also do the same.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? For sinners also lend to sinners, in order to receive the same.
35 Therefore love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing from it; and it will be your great reward, and you will be children of the Most High; because he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.
36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38 Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, they will give into your lap; because with the same measure with which you measure, it will be measured to you again.
39 And he told them a parable: Can a blind man lead a blind man? Wont both fall into the hole?
40 The disciple is not superior to his teacher; but everyone who is perfected will be like his teacher.
41 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
42 Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye, while you are not looking at the plank that is in your eye? Hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.
43 It is not a good tree that bears bad fruit, nor a bad tree that bears good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by its fruit; For figs are not harvested from thorns, nor are grapes harvested from brambles.
45 A good man draws good from the good treasure of his heart; and the evil man, from the evil treasure of his heart, brings out evil; because out of the abundance of his heart his mouth speaks.
46 Why do you call me, Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?
47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you who he is like.
48 He is like the man who, when building a house, dug and went deep and laid the foundation on the rock; And when a flood came, the river slammed against that house, but could not move it, because it was founded on the rock.
49 But he who heard and did not do is like the man who built his house on the ground without a foundation; against which the river hit with impetus, and then fell, and the ruin of that house was great.
1 After he had finished all his words to the people who heard him, he entered Capernaum.
2 And a centurion’s servant, whom he loved very much, was sick and about to die.
3 When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent him some elders of the Jews, begging him to come and heal his servant.
4 And they came to Jesus and besought him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that you should grant him this;
5 because he loves our nation, and he built us a synagogue.
6 And Jesus went with them. But when they were no longer far from the house, the centurion sent some friends to him, saying, Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come under my roof;
7 Therefore I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.
8 For I also am a man placed under authority, and I have soldiers under me; and I say to this one: Go, and go; and to the other: Come, and it comes; and to my servant: Do this, and he does it.
9 When Jesus heard this, he marveled at him, and turning, he said to the people who followed him: I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.
10 And when those who had been sent returned home, they found the servant who had been sick healthy.
11 Afterwards it came to pass that he was going to the city called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him, and a great multitude.
12 When he came near the gate of the city, behold, they were carrying out to bury a dead man, the only son of his mother, who was a widow; and there were many people from the city with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep.
14 And coming near, he touched the bier; and those who carried him stopped. And he said: Young man, I say to you, arise.
15 Then the dead man stood up and began to speak. And he gave it to his mother.
16 And they were all afraid, and glorified God, saying, A great prophet has arisen among us; and: God has visited his people.
17 And the fame of him spread throughout all Judea, and throughout all the surrounding region.
18 John’s disciples told him of all these things. And John called two of his disciples,
19 and he sent them to Jesus, to ask him, Are you he who is to come, or shall we wait for another?
20 So when the men came to him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to you, to ask you, Are you he who is to come, or shall we wait for another?
21 In that same hour he healed many of diseases and plagues, and of evil spirits, and he gave sight to many of the blind.
22 And Jesus answered and said to them, Go, tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are preached the gospel. ;
23 and blessed is he who finds no stumbling block in me.
24 When John’s messengers left, he began to say to the people about John: What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
25 But what did you go out to see? To a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who have precious clothing and live in delight are in the palaces of kings.
26 But what did you go out to see? To a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
27 This is he of whom it is written: Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.
28 I tell you that among those born of women, there is no greater prophet than John the Baptist; but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
29 And all the people and the publicans, when they heard it, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsels of God for themselves, and were not baptized by John.
31 And the Lord said, To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and to what are they like?
32 They are like the boys sitting in the market place, who shout to one another and say, We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; We mourned you, and you did not cry.
33 For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a devil.
34 The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and you say, This is a gluttonous man and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.
35 But wisdom is justified by all his sons.
36 One of the Pharisees begged Jesus to eat with him. And having entered the Pharisee’s house, he sat down at table.
37 Then a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she heard that Jesus was at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster bottle of perfume;
38 And standing behind him at her feet, weeping, she began to water her feet with tears, and wiped them with her hair; and she kissed her feet, and anointed them with perfume.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself: This man, if he were a prophet, would know who and what kind of woman it is that touches him, that she is a sinner.
40 Then Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have one thing to tell you. And he said to him: Say, Master.
41 A creditor had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty;
42 And since they had nothing to pay, he forgave them both. Say, then, which of them will love him more?
43 Simon answered and said, I think that he whom he forgave the most. And he said to him: You have judged rightly.
44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house, and you did not give me water for my feet; but she this she has watered my feet with tears, and she has wiped them with her hair.
45 You didn’t kiss me; But this one, since she entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.
46 You did not anoint my head with oil; but she has anointed my feet with perfume.
47 Therefore I tell you that her many sins are forgiven, because she loved much; But he who is forgiven little, loves little.
48 And he said to her: Your sins are forgiven you.
49 And those who were sitting together at the table began to say among themselves: Who is this, who also forgives sins?
50 But he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you, go in peace.
1 Afterwards it came to pass that Jesus went through all the cities and villages, preaching and announcing the gospel of the kingdom of God, and the twelve with him,
2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and diseases: Mary, whose name was Magdalene, from whom seven demons had come out,
3 Juana, Chuza’s wife, Herod’s mayor, and Susanna, and many others who served him from his possessions.
4 A great crowd gathered together, and those who came to him from each city, he told them in a parable:
5 The sower went out to sow his seed; And while he was sowing, some fell by the wayside, and was trampled under foot, and the birds of the air ate it.
6 Another part fell on the stone; and born, it withered, because it had no moisture.
7 Another part fell among thorns, and the thorns that grew up with it choked it.
8 And another part fell on good ground, and was born and bore fruit a hundredfold. Speaking these things, he said with a loud voice: He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What does this parable mean?
10 And he said, It is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God; but to others in parables, so that seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not understand.
11 So this is the parable: The seed is the word of God.
12 And those by the way are those who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they do not believe and be saved.
13 Those on the stone are those who, having heard, receive the word with joy; but these have no roots; They believe for a time, and in time of trial they fall away.
14 The one who fell among thorns, these are those who hear, but leaving, they are drowned by the cares and the riches and the pleasures of life, and they bear no fruit.
15 But the one that fell on good ground, these are those who with a good and upright heart hold fast to the word they have heard, and bear fruit with perseverance.
16 No one who lights a light covers it with a vessel or puts it under the bed, but puts it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.
17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed; nor hidden, that it should not be known, and come to light.
18 See therefore how you hear; because to everyone who has, to him will be given; and from everyone who does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away.
19 Then his mother and his brothers came to him; but they could not reach him because of the crowd.
20 And he told him, saying, Your mother and your brothers are outside and want to see you.
21 He then answered and said to them: My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God, and do it.
22 It came to pass one day, that he entered into a boat with his disciples, and said unto them, Let us cross to the other side of the lake. And they left.
23 But while they were sailing, he fell asleep. And a storm of wind broke out on the lake; and they were flooded and in danger.
24 And they came to him and woke him up, saying, Master, Master, we are perishing! When he awoke, he rebuked the wind and the waves; and they ceased, and he became prosperous.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And being afraid, they marveled, and said to one another, Who is this, that he commandeth even the winds and the waters, and they obey him?
26 And they came to the land of the Gadarenes, which is on the opposite bank of Galilee.
27 When he reached land, a man from the city who had been possessed for a long time came to meet him; and he did not wear clothing, nor did he dwell in the house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out with a loud voice, and fell down at his feet and exclaimed with a loud voice, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?” I beg you not to torment me.
29 (For he commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man, for it had taken hold of him a long time ago; and they bound him with chains and fetters, but breaking the chains, he was driven by the devil into the deserts.)
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is your name? And he said: Legion. Because a lot of demons have entered him.
31 And they begged him not to command them to go into the abyss.
32 There was a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain; and they begged him to let them enter them; and he gave them permission.
33 And the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs; and the herd fell down a cliff into the lake and was drowned.
34 And those who were feeding the pigs, when they saw what had happened, fled, and went and gave notice in the city and in the fields.
35 And they went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had come out, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 And those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been saved.
37 Then all the people in the region around the Gadarenes begged him to depart from them, for they were greatly afraid. And Jesus, entering into the boat, turned around.
38 And the man from whom the demons had come begged him to let him be with him; But Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to your house and tell how great things God has done for you. And he went away, publishing throughout the city how great things Jesus had done for him.
40 When Jesus returned, the crowd received him with joy; because everyone was waiting for him.
41 Then a man named Jairus, who was ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet and begged him to enter his house;
42 because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying. And as he went, the crowd oppressed him.
43 But a woman who had been suffering from an issue of blood for twelve years, and who had spent everything she had on doctors, and had not been able to be cured by any of them,
44 she came up behind her and touched the edge of her her cloak; and instantly the flow of her blood stopped.
45 Then Jesus said, Who is it that touched me? And when they all denied, Peter and those who were with him said: Master, the crowd presses and oppresses you, and you say: Who is it that touched me?
46 But Jesus said, Someone has touched me; for I have known that he has gone out power from me.
47 Then, when the woman saw that she had not been hidden, she came trembling, and falling down at her feet, she declared to him before all the people why she had touched him, and how she had instantly been healed.
48 And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has saved you; go in peace.
49 She was still speaking, when one came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house and said to her, “Your daughter is dead; Don’t bother the Master anymore.
50 When Jesus heard it, he answered him: Do not be afraid; she only believes, and she will be saved.
51 Entering the house, he let no one enter with him, except Peter, James, John, and the girl’s father and mother.
52 And they all wept for her and made lamentation for her. But he said, Weep not; She is not dead, but sleeps.
53 And they mocked him, knowing that she was dead.
54 But he, taking her by the hand, cried out, saying, Girl, arise.
55 Then her spirit returned, and immediately she arose; and he ordered that he be fed.
56 And her parents were astonished; but Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what had happened.
1 Having gathered his twelve disciples, he gave them power and authority over all demons, and to heal diseases.
2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3 And he said to them, Take nothing for the journey, neither staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; nor wear two tunics.
4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave there.
5 And wherever they do not receive you, go out from that city, and shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.
6 And they went out and passed through all the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
7 Herod the tetrarch heard of all the things that Jesus did; and he was perplexed, because some said, John has risen from the dead;
8 others: Elijah has appeared; and others: Some prophet of the ancients has risen.
9 And Herod said, I beheaded John; Who then is this, of whom I hear such things? And he tried to see him.
18 It came to pass, while Jesus was praying separately, that the disciples were with him; and he asked them, saying, Who do the people say that I am?
19 They answered: Some, John the Baptist; others, Elías; and others, that some prophet of the ancients has risen.
20 He said to them: And you, who do you say that I am? Then Peter answered and said, The Christ of God.
7 Herod the tetrarch heard of all the things that Jesus did; and he was perplexed, because some said, John has risen from the dead;
8 others: Elijah has appeared; and others: Some prophet of the ancients has risen.
9 And Herod said, I beheaded John; Who then is this, of whom I hear such things? And he tried to see him.
10 The apostles returned and told him everything they had done. And taking them, he withdrew by himself, to a desert place in the city called Bethsaida.
11 And when the people heard about it, he followed him; and he received them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and he healed those who needed to be healed.
12 But the day began to decline; And the twelve approached and said to him: Dismiss the people, that they may go to the surrounding villages and fields, and lodge and find food; because here we are in a desert place.
13 He said to them: You give them something to eat. And they said: We have only five loaves and two fish, unless we go to buy food for all this multitude.
14 And there were about five thousand men. Then he said to his disciples: Make them sit down in groups, fifty by fifty.
15 They did so, making them all sit down.
16 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people.
17 And they all ate, and were satisfied; and they collected what was left over, twelve baskets of pieces.
21 But he commanded them not to tell this to anyone, charging them strictly,
22 and saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and resurrected on the third day.
23 And he said to them all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake, he will save it.
25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and destroys or loses himself?
26 For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory, and in that of the Father, and of the holy angels.
27 But I tell you the truth, there are some who are here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.
28 It came to pass about eight days after these words, that he took Peter, John, and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
29 And while he prayed, the appearance of his face became different, and his clothing became white and dazzling.
30 And behold, two men spoke with him, which were Moses and Elijah;
31 who appeared surrounded by glory, and spoke of his departure, which Jesus was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
32 And Peter and those who were with him were overcome with sleep; But staying awake, they saw the glory of Jesus, and the two men who were with him.
33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, that Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us that we are here; and let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah; not knowing what he was saying.
34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them; and they were afraid when they entered the cloud.
35 And a voice came from the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; listen to him.
36 And when the voice ceased, Jesus was found alone; and they were silent, and in those days they did not say anything to anyone about what they had seen.
37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd came out to meet them.
38 And behold, a man in the crowd cried out, saying, Master, please see my son, for he is the only one I have;
39 And it happens that a spirit seizes him, and suddenly he cries out, and shakes him violently, and makes him foam, and spoiling him, he hardly departs from him.
40 And I begged your disciples to cast him out, and they could not.
41 Jesus answered and said: O unbelieving and perverse generation! How long must I be with you, and put up with you? Bring your son here.
42 And as the boy approached, the demon struck him down and shook him violently; but Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and returned him to his father.
43 And everyone was amazed at the greatness of God. And as they all marveled at all the things that he did, he said to his disciples:
44 Let these words sink into your ears; for it will come to pass that the Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men.
45 But they did not understand these words, because they were hidden from them so that they did not understand them; and they were afraid to ask him about those words.
46 Then they began to argue about which of them would be the greatest.
47 And Jesus, perceiving the thoughts of his heart, took a child and placed him near him,
48 and said to them, Whoever receives this child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me; for he who is least among you all, he is the greatest.
49 Then John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in your name; and we forbid it, because he is not still with us.
50 Jesus said to him: Do not forbid it; because he who is not against us is for us.
51 When the time was fulfilled for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.
52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for him.
53 But they did not receive him, because he looked like he was going to Jerusalem.
54 When his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven, as Elijah did, and consume them?
55 Then he turned and rebuked them, saying, You do not know what spirit you are of;
56 because the Son of Man has not come to lose the souls of men, but to save them. And they went to another village.
57 As they went, one said to him on the way, Lord, I will follow you wherever you go.
58 And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.
59 And he said to another, Follow me. He said to him: Lord, let me first go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said to him, Let the dead bury their dead; and you go and announce the kingdom of God.
61 Then he also said another: I will follow you, Lord; But let me first say goodbye to those who are in my house.
62 And Jesus said to him: No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.
1 After these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, whom he sent two by two before him to every city and place where he was going.
2 And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the workers are few; Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers into his harvest.
3 Go; Behold, I send you like lambs in the midst of wolves.
4 Do not carry a purse, nor a bag, nor shoes; Say hello to no one on the way.
5 Whatever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house.
6 And if there be any son of peace there, your peace will rest upon him; and if not, he will return to you.
7 And stay in that same house, eating and drinking whatever they give you; because the worker is worthy of his wages. Don’t go from house to house.
8 In whatever city you enter, and they welcome you, eat whatever is set before you;
9 and heal the sick that are there, and say to them, The kingdom of God is at hand to you.
10 But in any city where you enter, and they do not receive you, as you go out into its streets, say:
11 Even the dust of your city, which has clung to our feet, we shake off against you. But know this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.
12 And I tell you that in that day the punishment will be more tolerable for Sodom than for that city.
13 Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! that if the miracles that were done in you had been done in Tire and Sidon, long ago sitting in sackcloth and ashes, they would have repented.
14 Therefore, in the judgment the punishment will be more tolerable for Tire and Sidon than for you.
15 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to the heavens, will be brought down to Hades.
16 He who hears you hears me; and he who rejects you, rejects me; and he who rejects me, rejects him who sent me.
17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name.
18 And he said to them: I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I give you power to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will harm you.
20 But do not rejoice that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
21 At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said: I praise you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, because it pleased you that way.
22 All things were given to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is but the Father; nor who is the Father, but the Son, and whoever the Son wants to reveal him to.
23 And turning to the disciples, he said to them aside: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see;
24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and they did not see it; and hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
25 And, behold, a lawyer stood up and said to test him: Master, by doing what shall I inherit eternal life?
26 He said to him: What is written in the law? How do you read?
27 He answered and said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered well; do this, and you will live.
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus: And who is my neighbor?
30 Jesus answered and said, A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among thieves, and they robbed him; and wounding him, they left, leaving him half dead.
31 Now it came to pass that a priest came down that road, and seeing him, he passed by.
32 Likewise a Levite, coming near that place, and seeing him, passed by.
33 But a Samaritan, who was on the way, came near him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion;
34 And coming near, he bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and putting him on his horse, he took him to the inn, and took care of him.
35 Another day when he was leaving, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him; and whatever you spend more, I will pay you when I return.
36 Who, then, of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?
37 He said: He who showed mercy to him. Then Jesus said to him: Go and do the same.
38 It happened that as he was on his way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 This she had a sister named Mary, who, sitting at the feet of Jesus, heard her word.
40 But Martha was preoccupied with many chores, and coming closer, she said, Lord, don’t you care that my sister lets me serve alone? Tell her, then, that she help me.
41 Jesus answered and said to her: Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.
42 But only one thing is necessary; and Mary has chosen the good part of her, which she will not take away from her.
1 Now it came to pass that Jesus was praying in a place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, as it is in heaven, so on earth.
3 Give us this day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive all those who owe us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
5 He also said to them: Which of you who has a friend goes to him at midnight and says, Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 because a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him;
7 and he, answering from within, said to him: Do not bother me; The door is already closed, and my children are with me in bed; Can’t I get up and give them to you?
8 I tell you, although he does not get up to give them to him because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will get up and give him everything he needs.
9 And I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
10 For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
11 What father among you, if his son asks him for bread, will he give her a stone? Or if he fishes, instead of fish, will he give him a snake?
12 Or if he asks for an egg, will he give him a scorpion?
13 If you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?
14 Jesus was casting out a demon, which was mute; And it came to pass that the demon came out, and the mute spoke; and the people marveled.
15 But some of them said, By Beelzebub, prince of demons, cast out demons.
16 Others, to tempt him, asked him for a sign from heaven.
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls.
18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? since you say that by Beelzebub I cast out demons.
19 If I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
20 But if by the finger of God I cast out demons, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.
21 When the strong man armed guards his palace, what he possesses is in peace.
22 But when another stronger than him comes and defeats him, he takes away all his weapons in which he trusted, and divides the spoils.
23 He who is not with me is against me; and he who does not gather with me, he scatters.
24 When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it walks through dry places, seeking rest; and not finding it, he says: I will return to my house from which I came.
25 And when he comes, he finds it swept and decorated.
26 Then he goes and takes seven other spirits worse than himself; and entered, they dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.
27 While he was saying these things, a woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that brought you, and the breasts that you suckled.”
28 And he said, But blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
29 And the multitudes gathered together, and began to say, This generation is evil; He demands a sign, but no sign will be given him, but the sign of Jonah.
30 For just as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
31 The queen of the South will stand up in judgment with the men of this generation, and she will condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, there is more than Solomon in this place.
32 The men of Nineveh will rise up in judgment with this generation and condemn it; for at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and behold, there is more than Jonah in this place.
33 No one hides the burning light, nor under the bushel, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
34 The lamp of the body is the eye; When your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; But when your eye is evil, your body is also in darkness.
35 See therefore that the light that is in you does not come to pass as darkness.
36 Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, having no part of darkness, it will be all luminous, as when a lamp illuminates you with its brilliance.
37 After he had spoken, a Pharisee begged him to eat with him; And when Jesus entered the house, he sat down at table.
38 When the Pharisee saw him, he was surprised that he had not washed before eating.
39 But the Lord said to him: Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside you are full of rapacity and wickedness.
40 You fools, did not he who made the outside also do the inside?
41 But give alms from what you have, and then everything will be clean for you.
42 But woe to you, Pharisees! that you tithe mint, and rue, and all vegetables, and ignore justice and the love of God. This was needed to be done, without leaving that.
43 Woe to you, Pharisees! who love the first seats in the synagogues, and the greetings in the squares.
44 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like tombs that cannot be seen, and the men who walk above them do not know it.
45 One of the lawyers answered and said to him: Master, when you say this, you also insult us.
46 And he said, Woe to you also, ye lawyers! because you load men with burdens that they cannot carry, but you do not even touch them with a finger.
47 Woe to you, who build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed!
48 So you are witnesses and consenters of the acts of your fathers; for in truth they killed them, and you build their tombs.
49 Therefore the wisdom of God also said: I will send you prophets and apostles; and of them, some they will kill and others they will persecute,
50 so that the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the foundation of the world may be required from this generation,
51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who died among the altar and the temple; yes, I tell you that it will be demanded of this generation.
52 Woe to you, interpreters of the law! because you have taken away the key of science; You yourselves did not enter, and you prevented those who were entering.
53 As he told them these things, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him greatly and provoke him to speak about many things;
54 lying in wait for him, and trying to catch some word from his mouth to accuse him.
1 At this, the crowd gathering in thousands, so much so that they trampled one another, began to say to his disciples, first: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
2 For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed; nor hidden, that it should not be known.
3 Therefore, whatever you have said in darkness will be heard in the light; and what you have spoken in the ear in the chambers will be proclaimed on the housetops.
4 But I say to you, my friends: Do not fear those who kill the body, and then can do nothing more.
5 But I will teach you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after having taken life, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear him.
6 Aren’t five sparrows sold for two farthings? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.
7 For even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear, then; You are worth more than many sparrows.
8 I tell you that whoever confesses me before men, the Son of Man will also confess him before the angels of God;
9 But whoever denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.
10 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11 When they bring you into the synagogues, and before the magistrates and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you will respond, or what you will say;
12 because the Holy Spirit will teach you in the same hour what you should say.
13 One of the crowd said to him, Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.
14 But he said to him, Man, who has made me a judge or a judge over you?
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; because man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the goods that he possesses.
16 He also told them a parable, saying: The inheritance of a rich man had produced much.
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no place to store my fruits?
18 And he said, This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns, and build larger ones, and there I will store all my fruits and my possessions;
19 and I will say to my soul: Soul, you have many goods stored up for many years; rest, eat, drink, rejoice.
20 But God said to him, “You fool, this night they come to ask for your soul; and what you have provided, whose will it be?
21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and he is not rich toward God.
22 Then he said to his disciples: Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor for the body, what you will wear.
23 Life is more than food, and the body than clothing.
24 Consider the ravens, they neither sow nor reap; They neither have a pantry nor a barn, and God feeds them. Are you not worth much more than birds?
25 And which of you by toiling can add one cubit to his stature?
26 If you cannot do even the least, why do you worry about the rest?
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow; They neither work nor spin; But I tell you, not even Solomon with all his glory was clothed like one of them.
28 And if God thus clothes the grass that is in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more so will you, O men of little faith?
29 You therefore do not worry about what you will eat or what you will drink, nor be anxious.
30 For all these things the people of the world seek; but your Father knows that you have need of these things.
31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.
32 Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s pleasure to give you the kingdom.
33 Sell what you have, and give alms; Make yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure in heaven that does not run out, where no thief comes and no moth destroys.
34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
35 Let your loins be girded, and your lamps burning;
36 and be like men who wait for his master to return from the wedding, so that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.
37 Blessed are those servants whom their master, when he comes, finds watching; Truly I tell you, he will gird himself, and he will make them sit at table, and he will come to serve them.
38 And even if he comes to the second watch, and even though he comes to the third watch, if he finds them like this, blessed are those servants.
39 But know this, that if the head of the family knew what time the thief was coming, he would certainly watch and would not let his house be destroyed.
40 You, therefore, also be ready, for at an hour when you do not think, the Son of Man will come.
41 Then Peter said to him, Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or also to everyone?
42 And the Lord said, Who is the faithful and wise steward whom his lord will set over his house, to give them his portion in due time?
43 Blessed is that servant whom, when his master comes, she finds doing thus.
44 Truly I tell you, he will put his possessions over all.
45 But if that servant says in his heart, My lord is slow to come; and begin to beat the servants and the maids, and to eat and drink and get drunk,
46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect, and at an hour when he does not know, and will punish him severely, and will place him with the unbelievers. .
47 That servant who, knowing the will of his master, did not prepare himself, nor do according to his will, will receive many stripes.
48 But he who did things worthy of scourging without knowing it, he will be scourged a little; for from everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and to whom much has been entrusted, more will be asked.
49 I came to cast fire on the earth; And what do I want, if it has already been turned on?
50 I must be baptized with a baptism; and how anxious I am until it is fulfilled!
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? I tell you: No, but dissension.
52 For from now on, five in a family will be divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 Father will be divided against son, and son against father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother-in-law against his daughter-in-law, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law
54 He also said to the crowd: When you see the cloud coming out of the west, then you say, Water is coming; and so it happens.
55 And when the south wind blows, you say, It will be hot; and he does it.
56 Hypocrites! You know how to distinguish the appearance of heaven and earth; and how do you not distinguish this time?
57 And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
58 When you go to the magistrate with your adversary, try to come to terms with him along the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the bailiff, and the bailiff throw you in prison.
59 I tell you that you will not leave there until you have paid even the last penny.
1 At this same time there were some who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
2 Jesus answered and said to them, Do you think that these Galileans, because they suffered such things, were more sinners than all the Galileans?
3 I tell you: No; but if you do not repent, you will all likewise perish.
4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower fell in Siloam and killed them, do you think that they were more guilty than all the men who live in Jerusalem?
5 I tell you: No; but if you do not repent, you will all likewise perish.
6 He also told this parable: A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came to look for fruit on it, and found none.
7 And he said to the vinedresser, Behold, for three years I have come to seek fruit on this fig tree, and I have not found it; cut it off; Why does the land also become unusable?
8 Then he answered and said to him, Lord, let it remain this year, until I dig around it, and fertilize it.
9 And if it bears fruit, good; and if not, you will cut it later.
10 Jesus taught in a synagogue on the Sabbath day;
11 And there was a woman there who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years, and she walked bent over, and could not in any way straighten herself up.
12 When Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, Woman, you are free from your illness.
13 And he laid his hands on her; and she straightened herself immediately, and she glorified God.
14 But the ruler of the synagogue, angry that Jesus had been healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, There are six days in which one must work; In these, therefore, come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.
15 Then the Lord answered him and said, Hypocrite, does not each one of you untie his ox or his donkey from the manger on the Sabbath day and lead it to drink?
16 And this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound for eighteen years, should she not be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
17 When he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed; but all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things done by him.
20 And he said again, To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
21 It is like yeast, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until everything had fermented.
18 And he said, To what is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it?
19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.
22 Jesus passed through cities and villages, teaching, and on his way to Jerusalem.
23 And someone said to him, Lord, are there few who are saved? And he said to them:
24 Make every effort to enter through the narrow gate; For I tell you that many will try to enter, and will not be able to.
25 After the master of the house has risen and closed the door, and when you are outside, you begin to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us, and he answering will say to you, I do not know where you are from.
26 Then you will begin to say: We have eaten and drunk before you, and you taught in our streets.
27 But he will say to you, I tell you, I do not know where you are from; Depart from me, all you workers of evil.
28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you are excluded.
29 For they will come from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south, and will sit at table in the kingdom of God.
30 And behold, there are last who will be first, and first who will be last.
31 That same day some Pharisees came and said to him, “Go out and leave here, because Herod wants to kill you.”
32 And he said to them, Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and heal today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.
33 However, today and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I must continue my path; because it is not possible for a prophet to die outside of Jerusalem.
34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to you! How many times I wanted to gather your children, like a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing!
35 Behold, your house is left to you deserted; and I tell you that you will not see me until the time comes when you will say: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
1 It happened on a Sabbath day that he had gone to eat at the house of a ruler, who was a Pharisee, and they were lying in wait for him.
2 And behold, there stood before him a dropsical man.
3 Then Jesus spoke to the lawyers and the Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?
4 But they were silent. And he took him, healed him, and sent him away.
5 And addressing them, he said, Which of you, if his donkey or his ox falls into a pit, will not immediately pull it out, even on the Sabbath?
6 And they could not reply to these things.
7 Watching how they chose the first seats at the table, he told a parable to those invited, saying to them:
8 When you are invited by someone to a wedding, do not sit first, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him,
9 and he who invited you and him comes and says to you, Give place to this one; and then you start with shame to occupy the last place.
10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the last place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher; then you will have glory before those who sit with you at table.
11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and he who humbles himself, he will be exalted.
12 He also said to the one who had invited him: When you make lunch or dinner, do not call your friends, or your brothers, or your relatives, or rich neighbors; lest they in turn invite you again, and you be rewarded.
13 But when you make a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind;
14 and you will be blessed; for they cannot reward you, but you will be rewarded at the resurrection of the righteous.
15 When one of those who sat with him at table heard this, he said to him, Blessed is he who eats bread in the kingdom of God.
16 Then Jesus said to him: A man made a great supper, and invited many.
17 And at supper time he sent his servant to say to those who were invited, Come, for everything is now ready.
18 And they all began to make excuses together. The first said: I have bought a property, and I need to go see it; I beg you to excuse me.
19 Another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them; I beg you to excuse me.
20 And another said, I have just gotten married, and therefore I cannot go.
21 When the servant returned, he told these things to his master. Then the father of the family, angry, said to his servant: Go quickly through the squares and streets of the city, and bring here the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it has been done as you commanded, and there is still room.
23 The master said to the servant, Go along the highways and the fences, and force them to enter, so that my house may be filled.
24 For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste my supper.
25 Great crowds went with him; and turning, he said to them:
26 If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whoever does not carry his cross and come after me, he cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, wanting to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the expenses, to see if he has what he needs to finish it?
29 Lest after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all who see it begin to mock him,
30 saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, when he goes to war against another king, does not first sit down and consider whether he can with ten thousand meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 And if he cannot, while the other is still far away, he sends him an embassy and asks for terms of peace.
33 Therefore, any of you who does not renounce everything that he possesses cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good; But if the salt becomes tasteless, what shall it be seasoned with?
35 It is useful neither for the land nor for the dunghill; They throw her out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
1 All the publicans and sinners drew near to Jesus to hear him,
2 and the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners, and eats with them.
3 Then he told them this parable, saying:
4 What man among you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost until he finds it?
5 And when he finds it, he puts it on his shoulders rejoicing at him;
6 And when he came home, he gathered together his friends and neighbors, saying to them: Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.
7 I tell you that there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who do not need repentance.
8 Or what woman who has ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light the lamp, sweep the house, and search diligently until she finds it?
9 And when she finds it, she gathers together her friends and neighbors, saying: Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that she had lost.
10 Thus I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
11 He also said: A man had two sons;
12 And the youngest of them said to his father, Father, give me my share of the goods; and he distributed the goods to them.
13 Not many days later, when the younger son had gathered everything together, he went far away to a remote province; and there he squandered his wealth by living wildly.
14 And when he had wasted everything, a great famine came in that province, and he began to lack.
15 And he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that land, who sent him to his property to feed swine.
16 And he wanted to fill his belly with the carob beans that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.
17 And coming to himself, he said, How many hired servants in my father’s house have plenty of bread, and here I perish from hunger!
18 I will arise and go to my father and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; Make me like one of your hired hands.
20 And getting up, he came to his father. And while he was still far off, his father saw him, and he was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
21 And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring out the best garment, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.
23 And bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate;
24 for this my son was dead, and he is alive again; He was lost, and he is found. And they began to rejoice.
25 And his eldest son was in the field; and when he came, and came near the house, he heard the music and the dancing;
26 and calling one of the servants, he asked him what it was.
27 He said to him: Your brother has come; and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he received it healthy and healthy.
28 Then he was angry, and would not go in. So his father came out and begged him to come in.
29 But he answered and said to his father, Behold, I have served you for so many years, never having disobeyed you, and you have never given me even a kid to enjoy with my friends.
30 But when this son of yours came, who has consumed your goods with harlots, you have had the fatted calf killed for him.
31 He then said to him: Son, you are always with me, and all my things are yours.
32 But it was necessary to celebrate and rejoice, because this your brother was dead, and he is alive again; He was lost, and is found.
1 He also said to his disciples: There was a rich man who had a steward, and he was accused before him of wasting away his property.
2 So he called him, and said to him, What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be a steward.
3 Then the steward said to himself, What shall I do? Because my master takes away my stewardship. Dig, I cannot; begging, I’m ashamed.
4 I already know what I will do so that when I am removed from the stewardship, they will welcome me into their homes.
5 And calling each of his master’s debtors, he said to the first, How much do you owe my master?
6 He said: One hundred barrels of oil. And he said to him, Take your account, sit down quickly, and write fifty.
7 Then he said to another: And you, how much do you owe? And he said, One hundred measures of wheat. He said to him: Take your account, and write eighty.
8 And the master praised the evil steward for having done shrewdly; because the children of this century are more sagacious in dealing with their fellow men than the children of light.
9 And I say to you: Gain friends through unrighteous riches, so that when these fail, they may welcome you into eternal mansions.
10 He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in very little is also unjust in much.
11 For if you were not faithful in unrighteous riches, who will trust you with what is true?
12 And if you were not faithful in what belongs to others, who will give you what is yours?
13 No servant can serve two masters; for he or she will hate the one and love the other, or esteem the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and riches.
14 And the Pharisees, who were greedy, also heard all these things, and they mocked him.
15 Then he said to them: You are those who justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts; because what men consider sublime is an abomination before God.
16 The law and the prophets were until John; Since then the kingdom of God is announced, and everyone strives to enter it.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to be frustrated.
18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.
19 There was a rich man, who dressed in purple and fine linen, and feasted sumptuously every day.
20 There was also a beggar named Lazarus, who was lying at his door, full of sores,
21 and longing to be satisfied with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table; and even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass that the beggar died, and he was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died, and he was buried.
23 And in Hades he lifted up his eyes from him, being in torment, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 Then he cried out and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; because I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said to him: Son, remember that you received your good things in your life, and Lazarus also bad things; but now this one is comforted here, and you are tormented.
26 In addition to all this, a great chasm is placed between us and you, so that those who would like to cross from here to you cannot, nor can they cross from there to here.
27 Then he said to him, I beseech you, therefore, father, that you send him to my father’s house,
28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, so that they also may not come to this place of torment.
29 And Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets; listen to them
30 He then said, No, father Abraham; But if anyone comes to them from the dead, they will repent.
31 But Abraham said to him, If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.
1 Jesus said to his disciples: It is impossible that stumbling blocks should not come; but woe to him for whom they come!
2 It would be better for him if a millstone were tied around his neck and thrown into the sea than for one of these little ones to stumble.
3 Look to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
4 And if I sin against you seven times a day, and return to you seven times a day, saying, I repent; forgive him.
5 The apostles said to the Lord: Increase our faith.
6 Then the Lord said, If you had faith like a mustard seed, you could say to this sycamore tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea; and I would obey you.
7 Which of you, having a servant plowing or tending cattle, when he returns from the field, then says to him, Come in, sit down at table?
8 Does He not rather say to him: Prepare dinner for me, gird yourself, and serve me until I have eaten and drunk; And after this, do you eat and drink?
9 Do you give thanks to the servant because he did what he was commanded? I think no.
10 So you also, when you have done everything that was commanded you, say: We are unprofitable servants, since we did what we should do.
11 As Jesus went to Jerusalem, he passed between Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as he entered a village, ten leper men met him, and they stood afar off
13 and raised their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!
14 When he saw them, he said to them, Go, show yourselves to the priests. And it happened that as they were going they were cleaned.
15 Then one of them, seeing that he had been healed, returned, glorifying God with a loud voice,
16 and fell face down at his feet, thanking him; and this one was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus answered and said, Are there not ten that were cleansed? And the nine, where are they?
18 Was there no one to return and give glory to God except this foreigner?
19 And he said unto him, Arise, go; your faith has saved you.
20 When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God will not come with warning,
21 nor will they say, Here it is, or here it is; for behold, the kingdom of God is among you.
22 And he said to his disciples, The time will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.
23 And they will say to you: Here it is, or there it is. You do not go, you do not follow him.
24 For as lightning flashes from one end of heaven to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.
25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
26 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man.
27 They ate and drank, married and gave in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise as it was in the days of Lot; They ate, drank, bought, sold, planted, built;
29 But on the day that Lot left Sodom, he rained fire and sulfur from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30 This will be the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
31 On that day, whoever is on the roof, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them; and he who is in the field also does not turn back.
32 Remember Lot’s wife.
33 Whoever seeks to save her life will lose it; and whoever loses it will save it.
34 I tell you that on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken, and the other will be left.
35 Two women will be grinding together; the one will be taken, and the other left.
36 Two will be in the field; one will be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? He said to them: Where the body is, there the eagles will also gather.
1 Jesus also told them a parable about the need to always pray and not lose heart,
2 saying: There was a judge in a city who neither feared God nor respected man.
3 There was also a widow in that city, who came to him, saying, Give me justice from my adversary.
4 And he would not for some time; but after this he said within himself: Although I neither fear God nor respect man,
5 nevertheless, because this widow troubles me, I will give her justice, lest by continually coming she wear out my patience.
6 And the Lord said: Hear what the unrighteous judge said.
7 And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones, who cry to him day and night? Will it take him a while to respond to them?
8 I tell you that he will soon give them justice. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?
9 To some who trusted in themselves as righteous, and despised others, he also spoke this parable:
10 Two men went up to the temple to pray: one was a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed to himself in this way: God, I thank you that I am not like other men, thieves, unjust, adulterers, nor even like this publican;
12 I fast twice a week, I give tithes of everything I earn.
13 But the publican, standing afar off, would not even lift his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you that this one went down to his house justified before the other; for whoever exalts himself will be humbled; and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
15 They brought the children to him so that he could touch them; which the disciples saw, and rebuked them.
16 But Jesus, calling them, said, Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
17 Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.
18 A prominent man asked him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19 Jesus said to him: Why do you call me good? There is no good, but only God.
20 You know the commandments: You shall not commit adultery; you will not kill; you will not steal; you shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother.
21 He said: All these I have kept from my youth.
22 Jesus, hearing this, said to him, You still lack one thing: sell all you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.
23 Then when he heard this, he was very sad, because he was very rich.
24 When Jesus saw that he was greatly saddened, he said, How difficult it will be for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
26 And they that heard this said, Who then can be saved?
27 He said to them: What is impossible with men is possible with God.
28 Then Peter said, Behold, we have left our possessions and followed you.
29 And he said to them, Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left home, or parents, or brothers, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God,
30 who will not receive much more at this time, and in the age to come eternal life.
31 Jesus took the twelve and said to them, Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
32 For he will be handed over to the Gentiles, and he will be mocked, and reproached, and spit upon.
33 And after they have beaten him, they will kill him; but on the third day he will rise again.
34 But they understood nothing of these things, and this word was hidden from them, and they did not understand what was said to them.
35 As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging;
36 And when he heard the crowd passing by, he asked what that was.
37 And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.
38 Then he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39 And those who went ahead rebuked him to keep quiet; But he cried out much more: Son of David, have mercy on me!
40 Jesus then stopped and ordered him to be brought into his presence; and when he came, he asked him,
41 saying, What do you want me to do to you? And he said, Lord, let him receive his sight.
42 Jesus said to him: Receive it, your faith has saved you.
43 And immediately he saw, and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when he saw that, gave praise to God.
1 When Jesus had entered Jericho, he passed through the city.
2 And it came to pass that a man named Zacchaeus, who was chief of the publicans, and was rich,
3 sought to see who Jesus was; but he could not because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4 And running ahead, he climbed a sycamore tree to see him; because he had to pass by there.
5 When Jesus came to that place, looking up, he saw him, and said to him, Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must lodge in your house.
6 Then he came down quickly and received him with joy.
7 When everyone saw this, they murmured, saying that he had come to stay with a sinful man.
8 Then Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone in anything, I will return it fourfold.
9 Jesus said to him: Today salvation has come to this house; for he is also the son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.
11 When they heard these things, Jesus continued and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they thought that the kingdom of God would appear immediately.
12 He said therefore: A noble man went into a far country to receive a kingdom and return.
13 And calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, Trade while I come.
14 But his fellow citizens hated him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, We do not want this man to reign over us.
15 It came to pass that when he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he called before him those servants to whom he had given the money, to know what each one had bargained for.
16 The first came, saying, Lord, your mina has gained ten minas.
17 He said to him: It is well, good servant; Because you have been faithful in a little, you will have authority over ten cities.
18 Another came, saying, Lord, your mina has produced five minas.
19 And also to this one he said: You also know about five cities.
20 Another came, saying, Lord, here is your mina, which I have kept in a handkerchief;
21 because I was afraid of you, because you are a harsh man, taking what you did not lay down, and reaping what you did not sow.
22 Then he said to him, “You evil servant, I judge you with your own mouth.” You knew that I was a severe man, that I take what I did not put in, and that I reap what I did not sow;
23 Why then did you not put my money in the bank, so that when I returned I would have received it with interest?
24 And he said to those who were present, Take away the mina from him, and give it to him who has the ten minas.
25 They said to him, “Sir, you have ten minas.”
26 For I tell you that to everyone who has, to him will be given; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
27 And also those my enemies who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and behead them before me.
28 Having said this, he went ahead going up to Jerusalem.
29 And it came to pass, when he came near Bethphage and Bethany, to the mountain called Olivet, that he sent two of his disciples,
30 saying, Go into the village opposite, and when you enter it you will find a colt tied, in which no man has ever ridden; untie him, and bring him.
31 And if someone asks you: Why do you untie him? You will answer him like this: Because the Lord needs it.
32 They were those who had been sent, and they found as he told them.
33 And when they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 They said: Because the Lord needs it.
35 And they brought him to Jesus; And having thrown their cloaks over the colt, they lifted Jesus up on top.
36 And as he passed by, they spread their cloaks along the road.
37 When they were near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples, rejoicing, began to praise God with a loud voice for all the wonders they had seen,
38 saying, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!
39 Then some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to him, Teacher, rebuke your disciples.
40 And he, answering, said to them: I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would cry out.
41 And when he came near the city, when he saw it, he wept over it,
42 saying, Oh, that you also knew, at least in this day of yours, what is for your peace! But now he is hidden from your eyes.
43 For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will surround you with a fence, and will surround you, and will encircle you on all sides,
44 and will strike you to the ground, and your children within you, and will not leave one stone upon another in you, how much you did not know the time of your visitation.
45 And entering the temple, he began to drive out all those who sold and bought therein,
46 saying to them, It is written: My house is a house of prayer; But you have made it a den of thieves.
47 And he taught every day in the temple; but the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to kill him.
48 And they found nothing they could do to him, because all the people were in suspense listening to him.
1 It came to pass one day, as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, with the elders, came
2 and spoke to him, saying, Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? or who is it that has given you this authority?
3 Jesus answered and said to them, I also will ask you a question; Answer me:
4 Was John’s baptism from heaven, or from men?
5 Then they argued among themselves, saying, If we say, from heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him?
6 And if we say, of men, all the people will stone us; because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 And they answered that they did not know where he was from.
8 Then Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
9 Then he began to tell the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, rented it out to tenants, and went away for a long time.
10 And at his time he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they might give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 He again sent another servant; But they also, beaten and insulted, sent him away empty-handed.
12 He again sent a third servant; but they also threw this one out, wounded.
13 Then the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; Maybe when they see him, they will have respect for him.
14 But when the tenants saw him, they argued among themselves, saying, This is the heir; Come, let us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.
15 And they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come and destroy these tenants, and will give his vineyard to others. When they heard this, they said, God save us!
17 But he, looking at them, said, What then is it that is written, The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner?
18 Anyone who falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, he will break it into pieces.
19 The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him at that hour, because they realized that he had spoken this parable against them; but they feared the people.
20 And lying in wait for him, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order to surprise him in some word, to hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly, and that you show no partiality, but teach the way of God in truth.
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
23 But he, perceiving their cunning, said to them, Why do you tempt me?
24 Show me the coin. Whose image and inscription do you have? And they answered and said, Caesar’s.
25 Then he said to them, Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.
26 And they could not surprise him in a word before the people, but marveling at his answer, they remained silent.
27 Then some of the Sadducees came, who deny that there was a resurrection, and asked him,
28 saying, Master, Moses wrote to us: If a man’s brother dies having a wife, and leaves no children, let his brother marry her, and raise up. offspring to his brother.
29 So there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And she took her the second, who also died childless.
31 The third took it, and so did all the seven, and they died without leaving any descendants.
32 Finally the woman also died.
33 At the resurrection, then, whose wife will she be, since all seven had her as their wife?
34 Then Jesus answered and said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage;
35 But those who are considered worthy to reach that century and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
36 Because they can no longer die, since they are equal to the angels, and they are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
37 But as to the dead being raised, even Moses taught it in the bush passage, when he calls the Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38 For God is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for for him all live.
39 Some of the scribes answered him and said, Master, you have said well.
40 And they did not dare to ask him anything more.
41 Then he said to them, How do you say that the Christ is the son of David?
42 For David himself says in the book of Psalms: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand,
43 Until I make your enemies your footstool.
44 David therefore calls him Lord; How then is she his son? Jesus accuses the scribes
45 And when all the people heard him, he said to his disciples:
46 Beware of the scribes, who love to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first seats at suppers;
47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretext make long prayers; These will receive greater condemnation.
1 Lifting his eyes, he saw the rich putting their offerings into the treasury.
2 He also saw a very poor widow throwing in two mites there.
3 And he said, Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than everyone else.
4 For all of them contributed to God’s offerings from what was left over to them; But she, from her poverty, provided all the support she had.
5 And to some who were speaking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and votive offerings, he said:
6 As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another that will not be destroyed.
7 And they asked him, saying, Master, when will this be? and what sign will there be when these things are about to happen?
8 He then said, Take heed that ye be not deceived; for many will come in my name, saying: I am the Christ, and: The time is near. But do not go after them.
9 And when you hear of wars and seditions, do not be alarmed; because it is necessary that these things happen first; but the end will not be immediately.
10 Then he said to them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
11 and there will be great earthquakes, and in different places famines and pestilences; and there will be terror and great signs from heaven.
12 But before all these things they will lay hands on you, and persecute you, and hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and before governors for my name’s sake.
13 And this will be an occasion for you to bear witness.
14 Determine in your hearts not to think beforehand how you will respond in your defense;
15 For I will give you speech and wisdom, which all who oppose you will not be able to resist or contradict.
16 But you will be betrayed even by your parents, and brothers, and relatives, and friends; and they will kill some of you;
17 and you will be hated by all because of my name.
18 But not a hair of your head will perish.
19 With your patience you will win your souls.
20 But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its destruction has come.
21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; and those who are in the midst of it, let them go; and those who are in the fields, do not enter it.
22 For these are days of retribution, that all things written may be fulfilled.
23 But woe to those who are pregnant, and to those who give birth in those days! for there will be great calamity in the land, and wrath upon this people.
24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be carried away captive to all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
25 Then there will be signs in the sun, in the moon and in the stars, and on the earth distress of the nations, confused because of the roaring of the sea and the waves;
26 men fainting for fear and expectation of the things that will come upon the earth; for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
27 Then they will see the Son of Man, coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 When these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, for your redemption is near.
29 He also told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees.
30 When they sprout, seeing it, you know for yourselves that summer is already near.
31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is at hand.
32 Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all this happens.
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
34 Take heed also to yourselves, lest your hearts be burdened with gluttony and drunkenness and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly.
35 For like a snare it will come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch therefore at all times, praying that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that are to come, and to stand before the Son of Man.
37 And he taught by day in the temple; And at night, leaving, he was on the mountain called Olivet.
38 And all the people came to him in the morning to hear him in the temple.
1 The festival of unleavened bread, which is called the Passover, was near.
2 And the chief priests and the scribes sought how to kill him; because they feared the people.
3 And Satan entered into Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was one of the number of the twelve;
4 And he went and spoke with the chief priests, and with the leaders of the guard, how he would deliver him to them.
5 They were glad, and agreed to give him money.
6 And he committed himself, and was looking for an opportunity to deliver it to him behind the people’s backs.
7 The day of unleavened bread arrived, on which it was necessary to sacrifice the Passover lamb.
8 And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go, prepare the Passover for us to eat.
9 They said to him: Where do you want us to prepare it?
10 He said to them, Behold, as you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; Follow him to the house where he enters,
11 and say to the head of the house of that house: The Master says to you: Where is the room where I am to eat the Passover with my disciples?
12 Then he will show you a large upper room already prepared; prepare there.
13 So they went and found just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
14 When it was time, he sat down at the table, and the apostles with him.
15 And he said to them: How I have longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer!
16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And when he had taken the cup, he gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves;
18 For I tell you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
19 And he took the bread and gave thanks, and broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is my body, which is given for you; Do this in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise, after he had supped, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
21 But behold, the hand of him who betrayed me is with me at the table.
22 To the truth the Son of Man goes, according to what is determined; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!
23 Then they began to argue among themselves, which of them would be the one to do this.
24 There was also a dispute among them as to which of them would be the greatest.
25 But he said to them, The kings of the nations lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called benefactors;
26 But he is not like you, but he is the eldest among you as well as the youngest, and he who leads as he who serves.
27 For which is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Isn’t he the one who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
28 But you are the ones who have remained with me in my trials.
29 Therefore I assign to you a kingdom, as my Father assigned it to me,
30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 The Lord also said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked you to sift you like wheat;
32 But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, once you have returned, confirm your brothers.
33 He said to him: Lord, I am ready to go with you not only to prison, but also to death.
34 And he said to him, Peter, I tell you, the rooster will not crow today before you deny three times that you know me.
35 And to them he said, When I sent you without purse, without scrip, and without shoes, did you lack anything? They said: Nothing.
36 And he said to them, Now then, whoever has a purse, let him take it, and also his scrip; and he who has no sword, let him sell his cloak and buy one.
37 For I say to you, that which is written must still be fulfilled in me: And he was numbered with the wicked; because what is written about me has fulfillment.
38 Then they said, Lord, here are two swords. And he said to them: Enough.
39 And leaving, he went, as usual, to the Mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 When he came to that place, he said to them, Pray that you may not enter into temptation.
41 And he departed from them to a distance about a stone’s throw; and kneeling he prayed,
42 saying: Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; but not my will, but yours be done.
43 And an angel from heaven appeared to him to strengthen him.
44 And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was like great drops of blood that fell to the ground.
45 When he arose from prayer, and came to his disciples, he found them sleeping because of sadness;
46 And he said to them, Why do you sleep? Arise, and pray that you may not enter into temptation.
47 While he was still speaking, a crowd appeared; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he approached Jesus to kiss him.
48 Then Jesus said to him, Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?
49 When those who were with him saw what was to happen, they said to him, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?
50 And one of them struck a servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 Then Jesus answered and said, It is enough; leave And touching his ear, he healed him.
52 And Jesus said to the chief priests, to the heads of the temple guard, and to the elders, who had come against him: Have you come out like against a thief with swords and clubs?
53 Although I was with you every day in the temple, you did not stretch out your hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54 And they seized him, and took him away, and brought him to the house of the high priest. And Pedro followed him from afar.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the court, they sat down around it; and Peter also sat among them.
56 But a maidservant, seeing him sitting by the fire, noticed him and said, This man also was with him.
57 But he denied it, saying, Woman, I do not know him.
58 A little later, when another saw him, she said, You are also one of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 About an hour later, another affirmed, saying: Truly this one also was with him, because he is a Galilean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I don’t know what you say. And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
61 Then, when the Lord returned, he looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, which had said to him: Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.
62 And Peter went out and wept bitterly.
63 And the men who were guarding Jesus mocked him and beat him;
64 And blindfolding him, they struck his face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is he that struck you?
65 And they said many other things insulting him.
66 When it was day, the elders of the people, the chief priests and the scribes, gathered together and brought him to the council, saying,
67 Are you the Christ? Tell us. And he said to them: If I tell you, you will not believe;
68 And also if I ask you, you will not answer me, nor will you let me go.
69 But from now on the Son of Man will sit at the right hand of the power of God.
70 They all said, Are you then the Son of God? And he said to them: You say that I am.
71 Then they said, What more testimony do we need? for we ourselves have heard it from his mouth.
1 Then the whole crowd of them rose up and brought Jesus to Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is the Christ, a king.
3 Then Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, You say so.
4 And Pilate said to the chief priests and to the people: I find no crime in this man.
5 But they persisted, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even here.
6 Then Pilate, hearing it said, Galilee, asked if the man was a Galilean.
7 And when he knew that he was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he referred him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem in those days.
8 Herod, seeing Jesus, was very glad, because he had long wanted to see him; for he had heard many things about him, and hoped to see him do some sign.
9 And he asked him many questions, but he answered him nothing.
10 And there were the chief priests and the scribes accusing him with great vehemence.
11 Then Herod and his soldiers despised him and mocked him, dressing him in splendid clothing; and he sent him again to Pilate.
12 And Pilate and Herod became friends that day; because before they were at enmity with each other.
13 Then Pilate, calling together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,
14 said to them: You have presented this to me as a man who troubles the people; But having questioned him before you, I have not found in this man any of those crimes of which you accuse him.
15 And not even Herod, because I referred you to him; and behold, this man has done nothing worthy of death.
16 Therefore I will release him after punishing him.
17 And he needed to release one to them at each festival.
18 But the whole crowd cried out together, saying, Away with this man, and release Barabbas to us!
19 This man had been thrown into prison for sedition in the city, and for murder.
20 Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus;
21 But they cried out again, saying, Crucify him, crucify him!
22 He said to them the third time: What evil has this man done? I have found no crime worthy of death in him; I will punish him, then, and release him.
23 But they urged with loud voices, asking that he be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 Then Pilate ordered that what they asked be done;
25 and he released to them the one who had been thrown into prison for sedition and murder, whom they had asked for; and he handed Jesus over to their will.
26 And as they led him away, they took a certain Simon of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and placed the cross on him so that he might carry it after Jesus.
27 And a great multitude of the people and women followed him, weeping and lamenting for him.
28 But Jesus, turning towards them, said to them: Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
29 For behold, the days will come when they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not conceived, and the breasts that have not bred.
30 Then they will begin to say to the mountains: Fall on us; and to the hills: Cover us.
31 For if they do these things on the green tree, what will not be done on the dry tree?
32 They also took with him two others, who were evildoers, to be killed.
33 And when they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, and the evildoers, one on the right and one on the left.
34 And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. And they divided their clothes among themselves, casting lots.
35 And the people were watching; and even the rulers mocked him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this be the Christ, the chosen one of God.
36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and presenting him with vinegar,
37 and saying, If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself.
38 There was also a title over him written in Greek, Latin and Hebrew letters: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 And one of the criminals who were hanged reviled him, saying, If you are the Christ, save yourself and us.
40 And the other answered and rebuked him, saying, Do you not even fear God, being in the same condemnation?
41 We, in truth, suffer justly, because we receive what our deeds deserved; but this one did no harm.
42 And he said to Jesus, Remember me when you come into your kingdom.
43 Then Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
44 When it was about the sixth hour, there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in half.
46 Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he expired.
47 When the centurion saw what had happened, he gave glory to God, saying, Truly this man was righteous.
48 And all the multitude of those who were present at this spectacle, seeing what had happened, turned back, beating their breasts.
49 But all his acquaintances, and the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood afar off looking at these things.
50 There was a man named Joseph, from Arimathea, a city in Judea, who was a member of the council, a good and just man.
51 This man, who also looked forward to the kingdom of God, and had not consented to their agreement or their actions,
52 went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
53 And taking it away, he wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb opened in a rock, in which no one had yet been laid.
54 It was the day of preparation, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55 And the women who had come with him from Galilee also followed, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned and prepared spices and ointments; and they rested on the Sabbath day, according to the commandment.
1 Early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared, and some other women with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb;
3 And when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 It came to pass, as they were perplexed about this, behold, two men in shining garments stood by them;
5 And when they were afraid, and lowered their faces to the ground, they said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?”
6 He is not here, but he has risen. Remember what he spoke to you, while he was still in Galilee,
7 saying: The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and that he be crucified, and rise again on the third day.
8 Then they remembered his words,
9 and returning from the tomb, they gave news of all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joan, and Mary the mother of James, and the rest with them, who said these things to the apostles.
11 But their words seemed foolish to them, and they did not believe them.
12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; and when he looked inside, he saw the canvases alone, and went home marveling at what had happened.
13 And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village called Emmaus, which was sixty furlongs from Jerusalem.
14 And they were talking among themselves about all those things that had happened.
15 It came to pass, while they were talking and arguing among themselves, that Jesus himself came near and walked with them.
16 But their eyes were veiled, so that they did not know him.
17 And he said to them, What conversations are these that you have among yourselves as you walk, and why are you sad?
18 One of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered and said to him, Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who has not known the things that have happened there in these days?
19 Then he said to them: What things? And they said to him: Of Jesus of Nazarene, who was a man prophet, powerful in deed and in word before God and all the people;
20 and how the chief priests and our rulers handed him over to the sentence of death, and crucified him.
21 But we hoped that he was the one who would redeem Israel; and now, in addition to all this, today is the third day that this has happened.
22 Although we have also been amazed by some women among us, those who went to the tomb before day;
23 And when they did not find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he lives.
24 And some of our men went to the tomb, and found just as the women had said, but they did not see him.
25 Then he said to them: O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have said!
26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things, and that he should enter into his glory?
27 And beginning with Moses, and continuing through all the prophets, he declared to them in all the Scriptures what they said about him.
28 They reached the village where they were going, and he pretended to go further.
29 But they forced him to stay, saying, Stay with us, for it is getting late, and the day is already spent. So he came in to stay with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at table with them, that he took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; but he disappeared from his sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our hearts burn within us, while he spoke to us on the way, and when he opened the Scriptures to us?
33 And rising at the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,
34 saying, The Lord is truly risen, and has appeared to Simon.
35 Then they told of the things that had happened to them on the way, and how they had recognized him when he broke the bread.
36 While they were still talking about these things, Jesus stood among them and said to them, Peace be with you.
37 Then, terrified and afraid, they thought they saw a spirit.
38 But he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do these thoughts come to your heart?
39 Look at my hands and my feet, for it is I myself; touch and see; because a spirit does not have flesh or bones, as you see that I have.
40 And saying this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
41 And while they still did not believe it for joy and were amazed, he said to them, Do you have anything here to eat?
42 Then they gave him part of a roast fish, and a honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and ate before them.
44 And he said to them, These are the words that I spoke to you while I was still with you: that everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the law of Moses, in the prophets, and in the psalms.
45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the Scriptures;
46 and he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead on the third day;
47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
48 And you are witnesses of these things.
49 Behold, I will send the promise of my Father upon you; But remain yourselves in the city of Jerusalem, until you are endued with power from on high.
50 And he brought them out to Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, blessing them, that he separated from them, and was taken up into heaven.
52 After they had worshiped him, they returned to Jerusalem with great joy;
53 and they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
