1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
2 “Take a census of the whole congregation of the children of Israel by their clans, by their fathers’ houses, by name, every male by head.
3 From twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go to war in Israel, you and Aaron shall count by their divisions.
4 And there shall be with you one man from each tribe, each the head of his fathers’ house. 5
These are the names of the men who shall be with you: From the tribe of Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; 10 From the sons of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. 11 From Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni. 12 From Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. 13 From Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran. 14 From Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel. 15 From Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan. 16 These were the men appointed from among the congregation, leaders of their ancestral tribes, captains of the thousands of Israel. 17 So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been appointed by name, 18 and they assembled the whole congregation on the first day of the second month. They were grouped by clans, according to their ancestral houses, by the number of names per head, from twenty years old and upward. 19 As the Lord had commanded Moses, he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai. 20 From the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, according to their clans and families, by their ancestral houses, all the men twenty years old and above, all who were able to serve in the army, were counted by name. 21 Those counted from the tribe of Reuben numbered forty-six thousand five hundred. 22 From the sons of Simeon, according to their clans and families, by their ancestral houses, all the men twenty years old and above, all who were able to serve in the army, were numbered by name. 23 Those counted from the tribe of Simeon numbered fifty-nine thousand three hundred. 24From the sons of Gad, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by name, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war; 25 Those counted from the tribe of Gad were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. 26 From the sons of Judah, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by name, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
27 Those counted from the tribe of Judah were seventy-four thousand six hundred.
28 From the sons of Issachar, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by name, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
29 Those counted from the tribe of Issachar were fifty-four thousand four hundred.
30 From the sons of Zebulun, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by their names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
31 Those counted from the tribe of Zebulun were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.
32 From the sons of Joseph, from the sons of Ephraim, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by their names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
33 Those counted from the tribe of Ephraim were forty thousand five hundred.
34 And from the sons of Manasseh, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by their names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
35 Those counted from the tribe of Manasseh were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

36 From the sons of Benjamin, according to their descendants, according to their families, according to the houses of their fathers, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;
37 those numbered of the tribe of Benjamin were thirty-five thousand four hundred.
38 From the sons of Dan, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by name, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
39 those numbered from the tribe of Dan were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.
40 From the sons of Asher, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by name, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
41 those numbered from the tribe of Asher were forty-one thousand five hundred.
42 From the sons of Naphtali, according to their clans, by their ancestral houses, as recorded by name, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war;
43 those numbered from the tribe of Naphtali were fifty-three thousand four hundred.
44 These were the ones counted, whom Moses and Aaron counted, along with the leaders of Israel, twelve men, one from each of their ancestral houses.
45 And all those counted of the children of Israel by their ancestral houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war in Israel,
46 were all those counted, six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
47 But the Levites, according to the tribe of their fathers, were not counted among them;
48 for the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
49 “ Only you shall not count the tribe of Levi, nor take their number among the children of Israel,
50 but you shall appoint the Levites to the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings, and they shall minister in it, and they shall camp around the tabernacle.
51 When the tabernacle is to be moved, the Levites shall take it down, and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. Any outsider who comes near it shall be put to death.
52 The children of Israel shall camp, each in his own camp, and each by his own standard, according to their divisions;
53 But the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, so that there may be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel; and the Levites shall have the care of the tabernacle of the testimony.
54 And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses; so they did.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
2 “ The Israelites shall camp around the tent of meeting, each under their own standard, with the banners of their ancestral houses.
3 These shall camp on the east side: the standard of the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, with Nahshon son of Amminadab as their leader.
4 His division, with those numbered, was 74,600.
5 Next to him shall camp the tribe of Issachar, with Nethanel son of Zuar as their leader.
6 His division, with those numbered, was 54,400.
7 And the tribe of Zebulun, with Eliab son of Helon as their leader.
8 His division, with those numbered, was 57,400.
9 All those counted in the camp of Judah, 186,400, according to their divisions, shall march ahead.
10 The standard of the camp of Reuben shall be on the south side, according to their divisions; and the leader of the Reubenites shall be Elizur son of Shedeur.
11 His division, with its counted men, shall be 46,500.
12 The tribe of Simeon shall camp beside him; and the leader of the Simeonites shall be Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.
13 His division, with its counted men, shall be 59,300.
14 And the tribe of Gad; and the leader of the Gadites shall be Eliasaph son of Reuel.
15 His division, with its counted men, shall be 45,650.
16 All those counted in the camp of Reuben, 151,450, according to their divisions, shall march second.
17 Then the tent of meeting, with the camp of the Levites, will go out in the midst of the camps in the order in which they are encamped; each camp will march with its standard.
18 The standard of the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, will be on the west side; and the leader of the Ephraimites will be Elishama son of Ammihud.
19 His division, with its men counted, will number 40,500.
20 Beside him will be the tribe of Manasseh; and the leader of the Manasseh will be Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.
21 His division, with its men counted, will number 32,200.
22 And the tribe of Benjamin; and the leader of the Benjaminites will be Abidan son of Gideoni.
23 His division, with its men counted, will number 35,400.
24All those counted in the camp of Ephraim, one hundred eight thousand one hundred, by their armies, will go third.

25 The standard of the camp of Dan will be on the north side, according to their divisions; and the leader of the Danites will be Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
26 His division, with those numbered, will be 62,700.
27 Next to him will camp the tribe of Asher; and the leader of the Asherites will be Pagiel son of Ocran.
28 His division, with those numbered, will be 41,500.
29 And the tribe of Naphtali; and the leader of the Naphtaliites will be Ahira son of Enan.
30 His division, with those numbered, will be 53,400.
31 All those numbered in the camp of Dan, 157,600, will march last behind their standards.
32 These are the numbered Israelites, according to their ancestral houses; all those numbered by camps, by their divisions, 603,550.
33 But the Levites were not counted among the children of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.
34 And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses; so they encamped by their standards, and so they marched, each by their families, according to their fathers’ houses.
1 These are the descendants of Aaron and Moses, on the day the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai.
2 These are the names of Aaron’s sons: Nadab the firstborn, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3 These are the names of Aaron’s anointed priests, whom he consecrated to serve as priests.
4 But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai; they had no sons. Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests before their father Aaron.
5 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
6 “Bring the tribe of Levi near and have them stand before Aaron the priest, to minister to him,
7 and to carry out his duties and the duties of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle;
8 They shall keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting and all that the Israelites have entrusted to them, and they shall minister in the service of the tabernacle.
9 You shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the Israelites.
10 You shall appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests, and any outsider who comes near shall be put to death.
11 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
12 “ See, I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites instead of all the firstborn among them; the Levites shall be mine.
13 For all the firstborn are mine. On the day I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I consecrated to myself all the firstborn in Israel, both of man and of beast; they shall be mine. I am the Lord.”
14 The Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,
15 “Count the Levites according to their ancestral houses, by their clans; count every male a month old and above.”
16 So Moses counted them according to the word of the Lord, as he had been commanded.
17 These were the names of the Levites: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
18 The names of the Gershonites, by their clans, were Libni and Shimei.
19 The Kohathites, by their clans, were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
20 The Merariites, by their clans, were Mahli and Mushi. These were the Levites, according to their ancestral houses.
21 The clans of Libni and Shimei belonged to Gershon; these were the Gershonites.
22Those counted among them, according to the census of all the males a month old and above, numbered 7,500.
23 The families of Gershon were to camp behind the tabernacle on the west side;
24 and the leader of the Gershonite clan was Eliasaph son of Lael.
25 The Gershonites were to be in charge of the tent of meeting: the tabernacle, the tent and its covering, the curtain for the entrance to the tent of meeting,
26 the curtains of the courtyard, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard, which was next to the tabernacle and next to the altar all around; also their cords for all its service.
27 From Kohath were the families of the Amramites, the families of the Izharites, the families of the Hebronites, and the families of the Uzzielites; these are the Kohathite families.
28 The number of all the males a month old and above was 8,600, who had the care of the sanctuary.
29 The Kohathite clans shall camp beside the tabernacle on the south side;
30 and Elizaphan son of Uzziel shall be the leader of the Kohathite clan.
31 They shall be in charge of the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the utensils of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the veil with all its service.
32 Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, who is in charge of those who have custody of the sanctuary, shall be chief of the Levite leaders.

33 The families of the Mahlites and the families of the Mushites belonged to Merari; these are the families of Merari.
34 The number of all the males a month old and above was 6,200.
35 Zuriel son of Abihail was the leader of the house of the Merarite tribe. They were to camp beside the tabernacle on the north side.
36 The Merarite tribe was to be in charge of the boards of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its bases, and all its furnishings, with all its service;
37 and the pillars around the courtyard, their bases, their pegs, and their ropes.
38 Moses, Aaron, and his sons were to camp before the tabernacle on the east side, before the tent of meeting on the east side, keeping charge of the sanctuary in place of the Israelites. Any outsider who came near was to be put to death.
39 All the Levites who were counted, whom Moses and Aaron counted according to the word of the Lord by their families, all the males a month old and above, were twenty-two thousand.
40 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Count all the firstborn males of the Israelites, from one month old and upward, and count them by name.
41 You shall take the Levites for me instead of all the firstborn of the Israelites, and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn of the Israelites’ livestock. I am the Lord.”
42 So Moses counted all the firstborn of the Israelites, as the Lord had commanded him.
43 All the firstborn males, from one month old and upward, according to the number of their names, were 22,273.
44 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
45 “ Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn of the Israelites, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock; the Levites shall be mine. I am the Lord.”
46 And for the redemption of the 273 firstborn of the Israelites who exceeded the number of the Levites,
47 you shall take five shekels per person, according to the sanctuary shekel. The shekel is 20 gerahs.
48 You shall give the redemption money of the excess to Aaron and his sons.
49 So Moses took the redemption money of those who exceeded the number of those redeemed by the Levites,
50 and he received from the firstborn of the Israelites 1,365 shekels in money, according to the sanctuary shekel.
51 And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
2 “ Take a census of the Kohathites of the Levites, by their clans, according to their ancestral houses,
3 from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who are assigned to serve in the tent of meeting.
4 This is the duty of the Kohathites in the tent of meeting, in the Most Holy Place:
5 When the camp moves, Aaron and his sons shall come and take down the veil of the tent and cover the ark of the testimony with it.
6 They shall put over it the covering of badger skins, and spread over it a blue cloth, and put its poles in place.
7 They shall spread a blue cloth over the table of the Presence and put on it the dishes, the spoons, the cups, and the bowls for pouring out drink offerings; the regular bread shall be on it.”
8 They shall spread a scarlet cloth over it and cover it with a covering of badger skins, and put its poles in place.
9 They shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand of the light, its lamps, its snuffers, its dishes, and all its utensils for the oil with which it is served;
10 and they shall put it with all its utensils in a covering of badger skins, and place it on a platform.
11 Over the golden altar they shall spread a blue cloth and cover it with a covering of badger skins, and put its poles in place.
12 They shall take all the utensils used for service in the sanctuary, and put them in a blue cloth, cover them with a covering of badger skins, and place them on a platform.
13 They shall remove the ashes from the altar and spread a purple cloth over it;
14 They shall place on it all its utensils with which it is used: the shovels, the forks, the firepans, and the bowls, all the utensils of the altar; and they shall spread over it the covering of badger skins, and put the poles in place.
15 When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the utensils of the sanctuary, at the time the camp is to move, the sons of Kohath shall come afterward to carry them; but they shall not touch anything holy, lest they die. These shall be the duties of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting.
16 But Eleazar son of Aaron the priest shall be in charge of the oil for the light, the fragrant incense, the regular grain offering, and the anointing oil; the charge of the whole tabernacle and all that is in it, the sanctuary and its utensils.
17 The Lord also spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
18You shall not cause the tribe of the Kohathite families to perish from among the Levites.
19 So that when they approach the Most Holy Place they may live and not die, this is what you shall do for them: Aaron and his sons shall come and appoint each one to his office and his charge.
20 They shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, or they will die.
21 Moreover, the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
22 “ Take a number of the sons of Gershon, according to their ancestral houses, by their clans.
23 Count them from thirty years old and upward, up to fifty years old—all who come in to serve at the tent of meeting.”
24 This will be the duty of the Gershonite families, for service and carrying:
25 They shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, its covering, the covering of badger skins that is over it, the curtain of the entrance to the tent of meeting,
26 the curtains of the courtyard, the curtain of the entrance to the courtyard, which is near the tabernacle and near the altar all around, their ropes, and all the equipment for its service and everything that will be made for them; thus they shall serve.
27 According to the order of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the Gershonites in all their duties and in all their service; and you shall entrust to them all their duties.
28 This is the service of the Gershonite families in the tent of meeting; and their duty shall be under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
29 You shall count the sons of Merari by their families, according to the houses of their fathers.

30 From thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, you shall count all those who enter the company to serve in the tent of meeting.
31 This shall be their duty for all their service in the tent of meeting: the boards of the tent, its bars, its pillars, and their bases,
32 the pillars of the courtyard all around, their bases, their pegs, and their ropes, with all their equipment and all their service; and you shall record by name all the utensils they have to carry.
33 This shall be the service of the families of the sons of Merari for all their service in the tent of meeting, under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
34 So Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of the congregation counted the sons of Kohath by their families and according to their fathers’ houses,
35 from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to minister in the tent of meeting.
36 And those counted of them by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty.
37 These were the numbered of the families of Kohath, all who minister in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, as the Lord commanded through Moses.
38 And those counted of the sons of Gershon by their families, according to their fathers’ houses,
39 from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to minister in the tent of meeting;
40 those counted of them by their families, according to their fathers’ houses, were two thousand six hundred and thirty.
41 These are the numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, all who minister in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the command of the Lord.
42 And those counted from the families of the sons of Merari, by their families, according to their fathers’ houses,
43 from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old, all who enter the company to minister in the tent of meeting;
44 those counted of them, by their families, were three thousand two hundred.
45 These were those counted from the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron counted, as the Lord commanded through Moses.
46 All the Levites counted, whom Moses and Aaron and the leaders of Israel counted by their families, and according to their fathers’ houses,
47From thirty years of age and upward to fifty years of age, all who entered to minister in the service and have an office of work in the tabernacle of meeting,
48 those counted of them were eight thousand five hundred and eighty.
49 As the Lord commanded through Moses, they were counted, each one according to his office and according to his position; and he counted them as he was commanded.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “ Command the Israelites to send away from the camp all who have leprosy, all who have a discharge from their semen, and all who are defiled by contact with a dead body.
3 Send away both men and women outside the camp, so that they do not defile the camp of those among whom I dwell.”
4 The Israelites did so and sent them outside the camp, just as the Lord had told Moses.
11 The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying,
12 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him,
13 and another man has sexual relations with her, and her husband does not see it because she defiled herself secretly, and there is no witness against her, and she was not caught in the act,
14 and a spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he is jealous of his wife because she has defiled herself; or if a spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he is jealous of his wife, even though she has not defiled herself,
15 then the husband shall bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring with her an offering, a tenth of an ephah of barley flour. He shall not pour oil on it or put incense on it, because it is an offering of jealousy, a memorial offering, bringing sin to mind.
16 The priest shall bring her near and have her stand before the Lord.
17 Then the priest shall take some of the holy water in an earthen vessel; the priest shall also take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.
18 The priest shall have the woman stand before the Lord, uncover her head, and place the memorial offering, the jealousy offering, in her hands. The priest shall also hold in his hand the bitter water that brings a curse.
19 The priest shall put her under oath and say to her, “If no one has slept with you, and if you have not gone astray with your husband to uncleanness, you shall be free from this bitter water that brings a curse;

20 But if you have gone astray from your husband and defiled yourself, and a man other than your husband has slept with you,
21 (the priest shall put the woman under oath with a curse, and say to the woman): “May the Lord make you a curse and an execration among your people, causing your thigh to wither and your belly to swell;
22 may this water that brings a curse enter your body, causing your belly to swell and your thigh to wither.” And the woman shall say, “Amen, Amen.”
23 The priest shall write these curses in a book and blot them out with the bitter water.
24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and the water that brings a curse will enter her and make her bitter.
25 Then the priest shall take the offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, wave it before the Lord, and offer it before the altar.
26 The priest shall take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial portion and burn it on the altar. Afterward, he shall give the woman the water to drink.
27 He shall give her the water to drink, and if she is unclean and has been unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings a curse will enter her and cause bitterness. Her abdomen will swell, and her thigh will wither, and she will become a curse among her people.
28 But if the woman is not unclean but is clean, she will be free and will be able to conceive.
29 This is the law of jealousy: when a woman is unfaithful to her husband and defiles herself,
30 or when a spirit of jealousy comes upon a husband and he is jealous of his wife, he shall bring her before the Lord, and the priest shall perform all this law for her.
31 The man will be innocent of his sin, but the woman will bear her guilt.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 «Speak to the Israelites and tell them: ‘When a man or woman makes a special vow, becoming a Nazirite, to dedicate themselves to the Lord,
3 they must abstain from wine and other fermented drinks. They must not drink wine vinegar or other fermented drinks, nor drink any grape juice, and they must not eat grapes, whether fresh or dried.
4 During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything produced by the grapevine, not even the grape seeds or skins.
5 During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor may be used on their head. They must be holy until the period of their dedication to the Lord is completed; 6 During the entire period of their
dedication to the Lord, they must not go near a dead body. they must be holy to the Lord. 9 If anyone dies suddenly near him, his consecrated head will be defiled; Therefore, on the day of his purification he must shave his head; on the seventh day he must shave it. 10 On the eighth day he must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 11 The priest will offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and he will make atonement for the sin he committed through the dead body, and he will consecrate his head on that day. 12 He must consecrate to the Lord the days of his Nazirite vow, and he must bring a year-old lamb as a guilt offering; the first days of his vow will be voided, because his Nazirite vow was defiled. 13 This, then, is the law of the Nazirite on the day that the time of his Naziriteship is fulfilled: He shall come to the door of the tent of meeting, 14 and present his offering to the Lord: a male lamb a year old without blemish as a burnt offering, a female lamb a year old without blemish as a sin offering, and a ram without blemish as a peace offering. 15 Also, a basket of unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers spread with oil, with his grain offerings and his drink offerings. 16 The priest shall present them before the Lord and make his sin offering and his burnt offering; 17 He shall offer the ram as a peace offering to the Lord, with the basket of unleavened bread; the priest shall also offer his grain offering and his drink offerings. 18 Then the Nazirite shall shave his consecrated head at the entrance to the tent of meeting, and shall take the hair of his consecrated head and put it on the fire that is under the peace offering.
19 After he has shaved his consecrated head, the priest shall take the boiled shoulder of the ram, an unleavened cake from the basket, and an unleavened wafer, and place them on the hands of the Nazirite.

20 The priest shall wave it as a wave offering before the Lord, and it shall be holy to the priest, in addition to the breast that is waved and the shoulder that is separated. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine.
21 This is the law of the Nazirite who makes a vow of his offering to the Lord for his Nazirite vow, in addition to what his means allow; according to the vow that he makes, so he shall do, according to the law of his Nazirite vow.
22 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
23 “ Speak to Aaron and his sons and say to them, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites:
24 Say to them , “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’
27 So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.
1 When Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle and had anointed and consecrated it, with all its furnishings, and had also anointed and consecrated the altar and all its furnishings,
2 the leaders of Israel, the heads of their ancestral houses, who were the leaders of the tribes, who were over those who had been numbered, presented their offerings.
3 They brought their offerings before the Lord: six covered chariots and twelve oxen, one chariot for every two leaders, and one ox for each leader, and they presented them before the tabernacle.
4 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
5 “Take them from them, and they shall be for the service of the tent of meeting. You shall give them to the Levites, each according to his service.”
6 So Moses received the chariots and the oxen and gave them to the Levites.
7 Two chariots and four oxen he gave to the Gershonites, according to their service,
8 and to the Merarites he gave four chariots and eight oxen, according to their service, under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.
9 But to the Kohathites he gave nothing, because they bore the burden of the sanctuary on their shoulders.
10 The leaders brought offerings for the dedication of the altar on the day it was anointed, and the leaders presented their offerings before the altar.
11 Then the Lord said to Moses, “They shall present their offerings, one leader on one day, and another leader on another day, for the dedication of the altar.”
12 The one who presented his offering on the first day was Nahshon son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah.
13 His offering was a silver plate weighing 130 shekels and a silver bowl weighing 70 shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel, both full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering.
14 a gold ladle weighing ten shekels, full of incense;
15 a young bull, a ram, and a yearling lamb for a burnt offering;
16 a male goat for a sin offering;

89 And when Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with God, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim; and he spoke with him.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “Speak to Aaron and tell him, ‘When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light toward the front of the lampstand.’”
3 So Aaron did so; he lit the lamps toward the front of the lampstand, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
4 This was the design of the lampstand: hammered gold; from its base to its flowers it was hammered work. According to the pattern the Lord had shown Moses, so the lampstand was made.
5 The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying,
6 “ Take the Levites from among the Israelites and make atonement for them.
7 This is how you are to make atonement for them: Sprinkle the water of atonement on them, shave their entire bodies, and let them wash their clothes and be clean.
8 Then they are to take one young bull with its grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil, and you are to take another young bull for a sin offering.
9 Bring the Levites near before the tent of meeting, and assemble the whole Israelite community.
10 When you have brought the Levites near before the Lord, the Israelites are to lay their hands on them.
11 Aaron is to present the Levites before the Lord as an offering from the Israelites, and they are to perform the service of the Lord.
12 The Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls; You shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the Lord, to make atonement for the Levites.
13 You shall present the Levites before Aaron and his sons and offer them as a grain offering to the Lord.
14 Thus you shall set apart the Levites from among the Israelites, and the Levites shall be mine.
15 After that, the Levites shall come to minister at the tent of meeting; they shall be purified, and you shall offer them as a grain offering.
16 For the Levites are wholly dedicated to me from among the Israelites, instead of all the firstborn; I have taken them for myself instead of the firstborn of all the Israelites.
17 For all the firstborn among the Israelites are mine, both of man and of beast; from the day I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated them to myself.
18 And I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn of the children of Israel.
19 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the children of Israel, to perform the service of the children of Israel in the tent of meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel, so that no plague may come upon the children of Israel when they approach the sanctuary.

20 Moses, Aaron, and the whole Israelite community did for the Levites everything the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites; the Israelites did the same for them.
21 The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes, and Aaron offered them as a sacrifice before the Lord and made atonement for them to purify them.
22 Afterward, the Levites came to perform their duties at the tent of meeting before Aaron and his sons, just as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites.
23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
24 “ The Levites twenty-five years old and above shall serve in the service of the tent of meeting.
25 But from fifty years old they shall cease to serve and shall no longer serve.
26 They may serve with their fellow Levites in the tent of meeting, keeping watch, but they shall not serve in the service.” This is how you shall treat the Levites concerning their ministry.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the Desert of Sinai, in the second year after they had come out of Egypt, in the first month, saying,
2 “ The Israelites are to keep the Passover at its appointed time.
3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you are to keep it at its appointed time, observing all its ordinances and all its laws.”
4 So Moses told the Israelites to keep the Passover.
5 They kept the Passover in the Desert of Sinai on the fourteenth day of the first month, at twilight, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
6 But some of the Israelites were unclean because of a dead body, and they could not keep the Passover that day. They came to Moses and Aaron that day and said,
7 “We are unclean because of a dead body; Why should we be prevented from offering an offering to the Lord at its appointed time among the Israelites?
8 Moses answered them, “Wait, and I will hear what the Lord commands concerning you.”
9 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
10 “ Speak to the Israelites, saying: ‘Any of you or your descendants who is unclean because of a dead body or who is on a journey far away must keep the Passover to the Lord.
11 On the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they shall keep it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
12 They shall not leave any of the sacrifice until morning, nor break any of its bones; they shall keep it according to all the rites of the Passover.
13 But if anyone is clean and is not on a journey, and fails to keep the Passover, that person shall be cut off from among his people; Because he did not offer the Lord’s offering at the appointed time, that man shall bear his sin.
14 And if a stranger resides among you and keeps the Passover to the Lord, he shall keep it according to the Passover rites and according to its laws; the same rite shall be observed by the stranger and the native of the land.
15 On the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the testimony; from evening until morning it looked like fire over the tabernacle.
16 This was continually the case: by day the cloud covered it, and by night it looked like fire.

17 Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out; and wherever the cloud settled, there they would camp.
18 At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at the Lord’s command they camped; as long as the cloud remained over the tabernacle, they remained encamped.
19 Whenever the cloud remained over the tabernacle for many days, the Israelites kept the Lord’s command and did not set out.
20 But when the cloud remained over the tabernacle for only a few days, at the Lord’s command they camped, and at the Lord’s command they set out.
21 Whether the cloud remained from evening until morning, or when it lifted in the morning, they would set out; or if it remained for a day and lifted at night, they would set out.
22 Whether for two days, or a month, or a year, while the cloud remained over the tabernacle, the Israelites remained encamped and did not move; but whenever it lifted, they set out.
23 At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out, keeping the Lord’s command as the Lord had spoken through Moses.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “ Make two silver trumpets of hammered work. Use them to summon the congregation and to signal the movement of the camps.
3 When they are blown, the whole congregation shall assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
4 But when only one is blown, the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall assemble before you.
5 When you sound an alarm, the camps of those encamped on the east side shall move.
6 When you sound an alarm a second time, the camps of those encamped on the south side shall move; they shall sound an alarm to signal their departure.
7 But to assemble the congregation, you shall sound the trumpets, but not with an alarm.
8 Aaron’s sons, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; this shall be a perpetual statute for you throughout your generations.”
9 When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then sound the trumpet as an alarm. Then you will be remembered before the Lord your God and will be saved from your enemies.
10 On the day of your gladness, at your appointed feasts, and at the beginnings of your months, blow the trumpet over your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.
11 In the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud lifted from above the tent of meeting.
12 The Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai according to their order of march, and the cloud settled in the Desert of Paran.
13 The first time they set out, at the Lord’s command through Moses.
14 The standard of the camp of Judah marched first, according to their divisions, with Nahshon son of Amminadab in command of his division.
15 Over the division of the tribe of Issachar was Nethanel son of Zuar.
16 Over the division of the tribe of Zebulun was Eliab son of Helon.
17 After the tent was taken down, the Gershonites and Merarites who carried it moved on.
18 Then the standard of the camp of Reuben marched first, according to their divisions. And Elizur son of Shedeur was over his division.
19 Over the division of the tribe of the Simeonites was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.
20 And over the division of the tribe of the Gadites was Eliasaph son of Deuel.
21 Then the Kohathites began to march, carrying the sanctuary; and while they were arriving, the others prepared the tabernacle.
22 Afterward, the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites began to march by their divisions; and Elishama son of Ammihud was over his division.
23 Over the division of the tribe of Manasseh was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.

24 Over the division of the tribe of Benjamin was Abidan son of Gideoni.
25 Then the standard of the camp of the Danites marched out, organized by their divisions, at the rear of all the camps; and Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was over his division.
26 Over the division of the tribe of Asher was Pagiel son of Ocran.
27 Over the division of the tribe of Naphtali was Ahira son of Enan.
28 This was the order of march of the Israelites by their divisions when they set out.
29 Then Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, his father-in-law, “We are going to the place the Lord said I will give you. Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”
30 But he replied, “I will not go; I am going back to my own country and my people.”
31 Moses said, “Please do not leave us, for you know the places in the wilderness where we will camp. You can be our guide.
32 If you come with us, we will treat you well when the Lord brings us good.”
33 So they journeyed from the mountain of the Lord for three days, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them for three days, searching out a place of rest for them.
34 The cloud of the Lord was over them by day, from the time they left the camp.
35 Whenever the ark moved, Moses would say, “Arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered; let those who hate you flee before you.”
36 And whenever it stopped, he would say, “Return, O Lord, to the thousands upon thousands of Israel.”
1 Now the people complained in the hearing of the Lord, and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled, and fire from the Lord burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.
2 Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire died down.
3 So he called that place Taberah, because fire from the Lord burned among them.
4 Now the mixed multitude who were with them had a strong craving, and the Israelites also wept again and said, “If only we had meat to eat!
5 We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic;
6 but now our food is dried up, and all we see is this manna.”
7 Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its color like bdellium.
8 The people went about gathering it, grinding it in mills or pounding it in mortars, boiling it in pots, or making cakes of it. Its taste was like the taste of fresh oil.
9 Whenever the dew fell on the camp at night, the manna also fell on it.
10 Moses heard the people weeping for their families, each at the entrance to his tent. The Lord’s anger burned fiercely, and Moses was displeased.
11 So Moses said to the Lord, “Why have you dealt so harshly with your servant? Why have I not found favor in your sight, that you have laid the burden of all these people on me?
12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give birth to them, that you should say to me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing child, to the land you swore to give to their ancestors’?
13 Where can I get meat to give to all these people?” For they weep to me, saying, “Give us meat to eat.”
14 I am not able to carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.
15 If this is what you will do to me, please put me to death—if I have found favor in your sight—and do not let me see my misery.
16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Gather for me seventy men from the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and their leaders, and bring them to the entrance of the tent of meeting, so that they may stand there with you.
17 I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you, so that you do not have to carry it alone.
18 But you shall say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you will eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, “If only we had meat to eat! It was better for us in Egypt.”’ Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you will eat.”
19You will not eat for one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,
20 but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it, because you despised the Lord who is among you, and wept before him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?”
21 Then Moses said, “The people among whom I am number 600,000 on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat, and they will eat for a whole month! ’
22 Shall sheep and cattle be slaughtered for them to be enough? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered for them to be enough?”

23 Then the Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? Now you will see whether my word comes true or not.”
24 So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. He gathered together seventy of the elders of the people and had them stand around the tent.
25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied and did not stop.
26 Now two men, Eldad and Medad, remained in the camp. The Spirit also rested on them. They were among those whose names were written, but they had not gone to the tent. Yet they prophesied in the camp.
27 A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.”
28 Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, one of his young men, answered, “Moses, my lord, stop them!”
29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”
30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.
31 A wind from the Lord swept in quail from the sea and dropped them all around the camp, about a day’s journey on one side and a day’s journey on the other, about two cubits above the ground.
32 The people stayed up all that day and all that night and all the next day, gathering quail. The least man gathered ten heaps, and they spread them out all around the camp.
33 While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the Lord burned against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague.
34 He called the name of that place Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the greedy people.
35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed to Hazeroth, and they settled in Hazeroth
1 Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman.
2 They said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” And the Lord heard it.
3 Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting.” So the three of them came out.
5 Then the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance to the tent. He called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came out.
6 He said to them, “Listen to my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make myself known to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams.
7 But this is not the case with my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house.
8 With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord.” Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9 Then the anger of the Lord burned against them, and he departed.
10 And the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, and behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. And Aaron looked upon Miriam, and behold, she was leprous.
11 And Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, do not lay this sin upon us, for we have acted foolishly and have sinned.
12 Let her not be like one stillborn, whose flesh is half consumed when it comes out of its mother’s womb.”
13 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “I pray, O God, heal her now.”

14 The LORD answered Moses, If his father had spit in his face, would he not be ashamed for seven days? Be cast out of the camp for seven days, and then return to the congregation.
15 So Mary was driven out of the camp seven days; and the people did not move forward until Mary was reunited with them.
16Then the people left Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe, send one man, each a leader among them.”
3 So Moses sent them from the Desert of Paran, according to the word of the Lord. All these men were leaders among the Israelites.
4 These are their names: From the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;
5 from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;
6 from the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
7 from the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;
8 from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;
9 from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;
10 from the tribe of Zebulun, Gadiel son of Sodi;
11 from the tribe of Joseph; from the tribe of Manasseh, Gadi son of Susi.
12 From the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli.
13 From the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael.
14 From the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vapshi.
15 From the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Machi.
16 These are the names of the men Moses sent to spy out the land. Moses named Hoshea son of Nun Joshua.
17 So Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, saying to them, “Go up from here to the Negev, and go up into the hill country,
18 and see what the land is like, and whether the people who live in it are strong or weak, few or many;
19 what the land they live in is like, whether it is good or bad; and what the cities they live in are like, whether they are encampments or fortified cities;
20 and what the land is like, whether it is fertile or barren, whether there are trees in it or not; Be strong and bring back some of the fruit of the land. Now it was the time of the first ripe grapes.
21 So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin to Rehob, as far as Hamath.
22 Then they went up into the Negev and came to Hebron. There lived Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.
23 They came to the Valley of Eshcol and cut down from it a branch with a single cluster of grapes. Two men carried it on a pole, along with some pomegranates and figs.
24 The place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut down from there.
25 After forty days they returned from exploring the land.
26So they went and came to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel, in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh, and gave the report to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 And they told them, saying, “We came to the land to which you sent us, and it truly flows with milk and honey; and this is its fruit.”

28 Now the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are very large and fortified. We also saw the descendants of Anak there.
29 The Amalekites live in the Negev, the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country, and the Canaanites live by the sea along the Jordan.
30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “Let’s go up at once and take possession of the land, for we are well able to overcome it.”
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”
32 So they spread a bad report among the Israelites about the land they had explored, saying, “The land we explored devours its inhabitants. All the people we saw there are of great stature.
33 We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes; And that’s how we appeared to them.
1 Then all the congregation cried out and wept that night.
2 All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!
3 Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, and for our wives and children to become plunder? Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?”
4 So they said to one another, “Let’s choose a leader and return to Egypt.”
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown before the whole assembly of the Israelites.
6 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes
7 and said to the whole Israelite community, “The land we explored is exceedingly good.”
8 If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.
9 Therefore, do not rebel against the Lord, nor be afraid of the people of the land, for we will devour them like bread. Their protection has departed from them, but the Lord is with us; do not be afraid of them.
10 Then the whole assembly spoke of stoning them. But the glory of the Lord appeared in the tent of meeting to all the Israelites.
11 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? How long will they not believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them?
12 I will strike them with a plague and destroy them, and I will make you into a nation greater and stronger than they.”
13 But Moses said to the Lord, “The Egyptians will hear of it, for you brought this people out of them by your power;
14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that you, O Lord, were in the midst of this people, that you appeared face to face, O Lord, and that your cloud was over them, and that you went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire;
15 and that you have killed this people as one man; and the nations who have heard of your fame will speak, saying,
16 Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land of which he had sworn to them, he killed them in the wilderness.
17 Now therefore, I pray that the power of the Lord may be magnified, as you have spoken, saying:
18The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in love, forgiving wickedness and rebellion, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.
19 Forgive the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your mercy, just as you have forgiven this people from Egypt until now.
20 Then the Lord said, “I have pardoned him, as you have said.
21 But as surely as I live, and as surely as my glory fills the whole earth,
22 none of those who saw my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, but who tested me ten times and have not obeyed me,
23 shall not see the land I swore to give their ancestors. None of those who have despised me shall see it.
24 But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me wholeheartedly, I will bring into the land he went into, and his descendants will possess it.
25 Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites are living in the valley. Turn back tomorrow and set out into the wilderness along the route to the Red Sea.”
26 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
27 “How long will this wicked community grumble against me, the Israelites complain against me?”
28 Tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you exactly what I heard you say.
29 Your bodies will fall in this wilderness—every one of you twenty years old and above who was counted in the census and who has spoken against me.’

30 You will not enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to give you as your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
31 But I will bring in your children, whom you said would be taken as plunder, and they will possess the land you despised.
32 As for you, your bodies will fall in this wilderness.
33 Your children will wander in the wilderness for forty years, bearing the consequences of your sins, until your bodies are consumed in the wilderness.
34 For forty days, one day a year, you will bear the consequences of your sins, one year for each day, and you will know my punishment.
35 I, the Lord, have spoken. This is what I will do to this entire wicked community that has gathered against me: they will be consumed in this wilderness and die there.
36 The men whom Moses had sent to spy out the land, and who returned and caused the whole congregation to murmur against him and bring up a bad report about the land—
37 those men who had spoken badly of the land—died a plague before the Lord.
38 But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived of the men who had gone to spy out the land.
39 Moses spoke these things to all the Israelites, and the people mourned greatly.
40 Early the next morning they rose and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “We are ready to go up to the place the Lord promised, because we have sinned.”
41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed.
42 Do not go up, because the Lord is not among you, or you will be defeated by your enemies.
43 The Amalekites and Canaanites are there before you, and you will fall by the sword. Because you have refused to follow the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.”
44 Nevertheless, they were determined to go up to the top of the mountain, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord and Moses did not leave the camp.
45 And the Amalekites and the Canaanites who lived in that mountain came down and attacked them and defeated them, pursuing them as far as Hormah.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “ Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land I am giving you to live in,
3 and you present an offering made by fire to the Lord, whether a burnt offering or a sacrifice, whether to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, or to offer at your appointed festivals as a pleasing aroma to the Lord, from the herd or from the flock,
4 then the one presenting his offering to the Lord shall bring as his offering one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-fourth of a hin of oil.
5 For each lamb, you shall also offer one-fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering, in addition to the burnt offering or the sacrifice.
6 For each ram, you shall offer two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-third of a hin of oil,
7 and one-third of a hin of wine as a drink offering, as a pleasing aroma to the Lord.”
8 When you offer a bull as a burnt offering or a sacrifice, whether for a special vow or as a peace offering to the Lord,
9 you shall offer with the bull an offering of three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with half a hin of oil,
10 and half a hin of wine for a drink offering, as a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
11 This is how it shall be done with each ox, ram, lamb, or kid.
12 According to the number, so you shall do with each one, according to their number.
13 Every native-born person shall do these things in this way, to offer a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
14 And if a stranger dwells among you, or anyone who resides among you throughout your generations, if he offers a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord, just as you do, so he shall do.
15 You shall have one statute for the congregation and for the stranger who sojourns among you; This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations; the stranger shall be like you before the Lord.
16 You and the stranger who resides among you shall have one law and one decree.
17 The Lord also spoke to Moses, saying,
18 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you enter the land to which I am bringing you,
19 and when you begin to eat the food of the land, you shall present an offering to the Lord.
20 From the first of your dough you shall present a loaf as an offering, like the offering of the threshing floor.
21 From the first of your dough you shall give an offering to the Lord throughout your generations.
22 If you err and do not keep all these commands the Lord has given Moses,
23All the things that the Lord has commanded you through Moses, from the day that the Lord commanded him, and throughout your generations thereafter,
24 if the sin was committed unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, the whole congregation shall offer a young bull as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord, with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the law, and a male goat as a sin offering.
25 And the priest shall make atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they shall be forgiven, for it was their unintentional sin. And they shall bring their offerings, an offering made by fire to the Lord, and their sin offerings before the Lord for their sins.
26 And it shall be forgiven the whole congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger who sojourns among them, because it is the sin of all the people.
27 If a person sins unintentionally, he shall offer a female goat a year old as a sin offering.
28 And the priest shall make atonement for the person who sinned unintentionally; When he sins unintentionally before the Lord, he shall make atonement for him, and he shall be forgiven.
29 Whether born among the children of Israel or a stranger who dwells among them, you shall have one law for him who does anything unintentionally.

30 But whoever acts presumptuously, whether native-born or foreigner, blasphemes the Lord; that person shall be cut off from among his people.
31 Because he has despised the word of the Lord and rejected his commandment, that person shall be utterly cut off; his iniquity will be upon him.
32 While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath.
33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole congregation.
34 They put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.
35 The Lord said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death. The whole congregation must stone him outside the camp.”
36 So the congregation brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
37 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
38 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a blue cord on each tassel.
39 These will serve as tassels for you, so that you may see them and remember all the Lord’s commands and obey them. Do not follow your own desires and your own eyes, which lead you astray.
40 Remember and obey all my commands and be holy to your God.
41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the Lord your God.”
1 Korah son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, of the sons of Reuben, took men,
2 and rose up against Moses with two hundred and fifty men of the children of Israel, leaders of the congregation, of the council, men of renown.
3 And they gathered together against Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! For all the congregation, every one of them, is holy, and the Lord is in their midst; why then do you exalt yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?”
4 When Moses heard this, he fell on his face;
5 and he spoke to Korah and all his company, saying, “Tomorrow the Lord will show who is His, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to Him; whomever He chooses, He will bring near to Himself.”
6 Do this: Take censers, Korah and all his followers,
7 and put fire in them, and put incense in them before the Lord tomorrow; and the man whom the Lord chooses, he shall be holy. This is enough for you, sons of Levi.
8 Then Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, sons of Levi:
9 Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself to minister in the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them,
10 and that He has brought you near to Himself, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you? Do you seek the priesthood also?
11 Therefore, you and all your followers are gathering together against the Lord. For what is Aaron, that you murmur against him?”
12 Then Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; But they answered, “We will not go up there.”
13 “Is it a small matter that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness, but that you also rule over us with such feal authority?
14 You have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you gouge out the eyes of these men? We will not go up.”
15 Then Moses was very angry and said to the Lord, “Do not look at their offering. I have not taken even a donkey from them, nor have I wronged any of them.”
16 Then Moses said to Korah, “Tomorrow, you and all your company stand before the Lord—you, they, and Aaron.
17 Each of you take your censer and put incense in it, and come before the Lord, each with his censer—250 censers in all; you and Aaron, each with his censer.”
18 Then each man took his censer, and put fire in it, and poured incense on it, and stood at the door of the tabernacle of meeting with Moses and Aaron.
19 Now Korah had gathered all the congregation against them at the entrance to the tent of meeting; and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.
20 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
21 “ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.”
22 And they fell on their faces and said, “O God, God of the spirits of all flesh, has not one man sinned? Why are you angry with the whole congregation?”
23 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
24 “Speak to the congregation and say to them, ‘Depart from around the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’”
25 So Moses arose and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him.
26 And he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart now from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you perish in all their sins.”
27 They moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram all around; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the entrances of their tents, with their wives, their children, and their little ones.
28 Then Moses said, “By this you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things, and that I have not done them of my own accord.
29 If these men die a natural death, or if they suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me.”

30 But if the Lord does something new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you will know that these men have provoked the Lord to anger.
31 As soon as he finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart.
32 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, along with their households, all Korah’s men, and all their possessions.
33 They and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol; the earth closed over them, and they perished from among the congregation.
34 At their cry, all Israel who were around them fled, for they said, “The earth might swallow us up too!”
35 Fire also came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering incense.
36 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
37 “Tell Eleazar son of Aaron the priest to take the censers from the midst of the fire and pour out the fire farther away, for the censers of these men who sinned against their own souls are holy .
38 They shall beat them into hammered plates to cover the altar, because they offered them before the Lord; they are holy, and they will be a sign to the children of Israel.”
39 So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers with which those who were burned had offered, and they beat them to cover the altar,
40 as a reminder to the children of Israel that no foreigner except a descendant of Aaron should come near to burn incense before the Lord, lest he be like Korah and his followers, as the Lord had said to them through Moses.
41 The next day the whole congregation of the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, “You have killed the Lord’s people.”
42 When the congregation had gathered against Moses and Aaron, they looked toward the tent of meeting, and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.
43 Then Moses and Aaron came before the tent of meeting.
44 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
45 “Get away from this congregation, so that I may destroy them in a moment.” And they fell on their faces.
46 Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take the censer, put fire from the altar in it, and put incense on it. Go quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun.”
47Then Aaron took the censer, as Moses had instructed, and ran into the midst of the congregation. And behold, the plague had begun among the people. So he put incense in it and made atonement for the people,
and stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stopped. And those who died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in Korah’s rebellion. After the plague had stopped
, Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “ Speak to the Israelites and take from them a staff, one for each ancestral house, from all their leaders—twelve staffs, according to their ancestral houses. Write each man’s name on his staff.
3 Write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi, for each head of a family has a staff.
4 Place them in the tent of meeting before the ark of the covenant law, where I will meet with you.
5 The staff of the man I choose will flourish, and I will put an end to the complaints the Israelites are making against you.”
6 So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and all their leaders gave him staffs, one for each leader, one for each ancestral house—twelve staffs in all. Aaron’s staff was among them.
7 Moses placed the staffs before the Lord in the tent of the covenant law.
8 The next day Moses went into the tent of meeting, and there was Aaron’s staff, which belonged to the house of Levi. It had budded, blossomed, and produced ripe almonds.
9 So Moses brought out all the staffs from before the Lord to all the Israelites, and when they saw it, each man took his staff.
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Put Aaron’s staff back before the tent of meeting to be kept as a sign for the rebellious Israelites. This will put an end to their grumbling before me, so that they will not die.”
11 Moses did as the Lord had commanded.
12 The Israelites said to Moses, “We are ruined! We are all ruined!
13 Whoever comes near the tent of the Lord will die. Shall we all perish?”

1 The Lord said to Aaron, “You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.
2 Bring your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, your father’s tribe, near to you and join you, and they shall minister to you. You and your sons with you shall minister before the tent of meeting.
3 They shall keep your commands and the charge of all the tabernacle, but they shall not come near the holy vessels or the altar, lest they die, both they and you.
4 They shall join you and have charge of the tent of meeting in all the service of the tabernacle; no outsider shall come near you.
5 You shall take care of the sanctuary and the altar, so that wrath may no longer come upon the people of Israel.”
6 For behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel, and given them to you as a gift from the Lord, to serve in the service of the tabernacle of meeting.
7 But you and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood in all that pertains to the altar and within the veil, and you shall minister. I have given you the service of your priesthood as a gift; and any outsider who comes near shall be put to death.
8 The Lord also said to Aaron, “Behold, I have given you charge of My offerings also; all the consecrated things of the children of Israel I have given to you as a token of the anointing, and to your sons as a perpetual statute.
9 This shall be yours from the offering of the holy things, reserved from the fire: every offering of theirs, every present offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every guilt offering of theirs, which they present to Me, shall be most holy to you and to your sons.
10 You shall eat it in the sanctuary; Every male may eat of it; it shall be holy to you.
11 This also shall be yours: the wave offering of their gifts, and all the wave offerings of the children of Israel, I have given to you and to your sons and to your daughters with you, as a perpetual statute; everyone who is clean in your house may eat of them.
12 Of oil, of new wine, and of wheat, all the choicest, the firstfruits of them, which they present to the Lord, I have given to you.
13 The firstfruits of all that their land produces, which they bring to the Lord, shall be yours; everyone who is clean in your house may eat of them.
14 Everything consecrated by vow in Israel shall be yours.
15 Everything that opens the womb, of all flesh that they offer to the Lord, whether of man or of beast, shall be yours; but you shall redeem the firstborn of man, and you shall redeem the firstborn of unclean animals.
16At one month old you shall redeem them, according to your valuation, for the price of five shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel, which is twenty gerahs.
17 But the firstborn of cattle, the firstborn of sheep, and the firstborn of goats you shall not redeem; they are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and burn their fat as an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
18 Their flesh shall be yours; like the breast of the wave offering and like the right thigh, it shall be yours.
19 All the wave offerings of the holy things that the children of Israel offer to the Lord I have given to you and to your sons and daughters with you, as a perpetual statute; it is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord for you and your descendants with you.

20 The Lord said to Aaron, “You shall have no inheritance in their land, nor shall you have any share among them. I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.
21 I have given the Levites all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance, in return for their service at the tent of meeting.
22 The Israelites must not come near the tent of meeting anymore, or they will incur guilt and die.
23 The Levites are to perform the service at the tent of meeting, and they will bear their guilt. This is a perpetual statute for your descendants, and they will have no inheritance among the Israelites.
24 For I have given the Levites their inheritance from the tithes of the Israelites, which they present as an offering to the Lord. That is why I said to them, ‘They shall have no inheritance among the Israelites.’”
25 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
26 “Speak to the Levites and tell them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the tithes I have given you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of those tithes as a wave offering to the Lord.
27 Your offering will be counted to you as grain from the threshing floor and as produce from the winepress.
28 You must also present an offering to the Lord from all the tithes you receive from the Israelites, and you must give this offering to Aaron the priest.
29 From all your gifts you must present every offering to the Lord; from all your best offerings you must present the portion that is to be consecrated.
30 Tell them: “When you present the best of it, it will be counted to the Levites as grain from the threshing floor and as produce from the winepress.
31 You and your families may eat it wherever you are; For it is your reward for your service in the tent of meeting.
32 You will not incur guilt for it when you offer the best part of it; you will not defile the holy things of the Israelites, and you will not die.

17 For the unclean person, they shall take some of the ashes of the burnt heifer of the sin offering and pour running water on them in a basin.
18 A clean person shall take hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the tent, on all the furnishings, on the people who are in it, and on anyone who has touched a bone, or who has been killed, or who has died, or who has been buried.
19 The clean person shall sprinkle it on the unclean person on the third and on the seventh day. When he has purified him on the seventh day, he shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water, and he will be clean at night.
20 Anyone who is unclean and does not purify himself shall be cut off from the congregation, because he has defiled the tabernacle of the Lord; the water of purification was not sprinkled on him, and he is unclean.
21 This shall be a perpetual statute for them. He who sprinkles the water of purification shall wash his clothes. And whoever touches the water of purification will be unclean until evening.
22 And everything that the unclean person touches will be unclean; and the person who touches it will be unclean until evening.
1 The whole Israelite community arrived in the Desert of Zin in the first month, and they camped at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.
2 Because there was no water for the community, they gathered together against Moses and Aaron.
3 The people spoke against Moses, saying, “If only we had died when our brothers perished before the Lord!
4 Why did you bring the Lord’s community into this wilderness, that we and our livestock should die here?
5 Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to bring us to this terrible place? It is not a place of grain, fig trees, vines, or pomegranates; there is no water to drink.”
6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the community to the entrance of the tent of meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the Lord appeared to them.
7 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
8 “ Take the staff, and gather the congregation together, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water. You will bring water out of the rock for them to drink, both for the congregation and their livestock.”
9 So Moses took the staff from before the Lord, as he had commanded him.
10 Then Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to them, “Listen now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?”
11 So Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff; and water gushed out, and the congregation and their livestock drank.
12 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe in me, to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you shall not bring this congregation into the land I have given them.”
13 These are the waters of strife, by which the children of Israel quarreled with the LORD, and he sanctified himself among them.
14 So Moses sent messengers to the king of Edom from Kadesh, saying, “This is what your brother Israel says: You know all the hardships that have befallen us,
15 how our ancestors went down to Egypt, and how we lived in Egypt for a long time, and how the Egyptians mistreated us, as did our ancestors.
16 Then we cried out to the Lord, and he heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. Now we are at Kadesh, a city near your border.
17 Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through any field or vineyard, nor drink water from any well. We will travel along the King’s Highway, not turning to the right or to the left, until we have passed through your territory.”

18 Edom answered, “You shall not pass through my land, or I will come out against you with all my might.”
19 The Israelites said, “We will go by the main road, and if we and our livestock drink your water, I will pay for it. Just let us pass through on foot, nothing more.”
20 But he answered, “You shall not pass through.” So Edom came out against him with a large army and a strong hand.
21 Edom refused to let Israel pass through his territory, and Israel turned away from him.
22 So the Israelites, the whole assembly, journeyed from Kadesh and came to Mount Hor.
23 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the border of Edom, saying,
24 “Aaron will be gathered to his people, for he will not enter the land I gave to the Israelites, because you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah.
25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up to Mount Hor.
26 Strip Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar, for Aaron will be gathered to his people and die there.”
27 Moses did as the Lord commanded, and they went up Mount Hor in the sight of all the assembly.
28 Moses stripped Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar. And Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron had died, all the families of Israel mourned for him thirty days.
1 When the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and took some of them captive.
2 Then Israel made a vow to the Lord, saying, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, I will destroy their cities.”
3 And the Lord listened to the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites and utterly destroyed them and their cities. He called the name of that place Hormah.
4 Then they set out from Mount Hor on the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; but the people became discouraged on the way.
5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.”
6 Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many Israelites died.
7 Then the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord that he take the serpents away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and put it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”
9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and put it on a pole; and if a serpent bit anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
10 Then the Israelites set out and camped at Oboth.
11 From Oboth they camped at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness east of Moab.
12 From there they camped in the Valley of Zered.
13 From there they set out and camped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness and flows out of the Amorite territory; for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14 Therefore it is written in the Book of the Wars of the Lord: “What he did at the Red Sea, and at the streams of the Arnon;
15 and at the stream of the brooks that flows into Ar and rests on the border of Moab.”
16 From there they came to Beer: this is the well of which the Lord said to Moses, “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”
17 Then Israel sang this song: “Spread up, O well; sing to it;
18 The well that the nobles dug. The princes of the people dug it, and the lawgiver with his staffs. From the wilderness they came to Mattanah,
19 and from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;
20 and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the plains of Moab, and to the top of Pisgah, which faces the wilderness. Israel defeats Sihon

21 Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
22 “ Let me pass through your land. We will not go through the fields or vineyards, nor drink water from the wells. We will travel along the king’s highway until we have passed through your territory.”
23 But Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Instead, Sihon gathered all his forces and marched against Israel in the wilderness. He came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.
24 Israel defeated him with the edge of the sword and captured his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the Ammonites, for the Ammonite border was strong.
25 Israel captured all these cities and settled in all the Amorite cities, including Heshbon and all its villages.
26 Now Heshbon was the city of Sihon king of the Amorites, who had previously fought against the king of Moab and taken all his land as far as the Arnon from him.
27 Therefore the proverbs say: “Come to Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be rebuilt and repaired.”
28 For fire went out from Heshbon, and a flame from the city of Sihon, and consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the heights of the Arnon.
29 Woe to you, Moab! You are destroyed, people of Chemosh. Your sons have been put into flight, and your daughters into captivity, by Sihon king of the Amorites.
30 But we laid waste their kingdom; Heshbon perished as far as Dibon, and we destroyed as far as Nopah and Medeba. Israel defeats Og of Bashan
31 So Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
32 Moses also sent men to spy out Jazer; and they captured its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there.
33 Then they turned back and went up the road to Bashan; and Og king of Bashan came out against them, he and all his people, to fight at Edrei.
34 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Do not be afraid of him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with all his people and his land. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
35 So they struck him down, his sons, and all his people; not one of him was left, and they took possession of his land.
1 The Israelites set out and camped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho.
2 Balak son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 Moab was greatly afraid of the people, because they were numerous; Moab was distressed because of the Israelites.
4 So Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this people will lick up all our borders, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” At that time Balak son of Zippor was king of Moab.
5 Therefore he sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor at Pethor, which is by the river in the land of his people, to summon him, saying, “A people has come out of Egypt, and now they cover the face of the earth and live opposite me.
6 Come now, I pray, curse this people for me, because they are too strong for me. Perhaps I will be able to strike them down and drive them out of the land; For I know that whomever you bless will be blessed, and whomever you curse will be cursed.
7 So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian went with the gifts of divination in their hands, and came to Balaam and told him the words of Balak.
8 He said to them, “Stay here tonight, and I will give you answer as the Lord speaks to me.” So the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.
9 Then God came to Balaam and said to him, “Who are these men with you?”
10 Balaam answered God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent to me, saying,
11 ‘ Look, this people who have come out of Egypt covers the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me; perhaps I will be able to fight against them and drive them out.’”
12 Then God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them, nor curse the people, for they are blessed.”
13 So Balaam got up early in the morning and said to Balak’s officials, “Go back to your own country, for the Lord will not let me go with you.”
14 Then the Moabite officials got up and went to Balak and said, “Balaam refused to go with us.”
15 Again Balak sent more officials, more distinguished than the first.
16 They came to Balaam and said, “This is what Balak son of Zippor says: ‘Please do not refuse to come to me.
17 I will surely honor you greatly and do everything you say. Come now, curse this people for me.’”
18 Balaam answered Balak’s officials, “Even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God to do anything, small or great.
19 Now therefore, stay here tonight, so that I may know what the Lord will say to me again.”
20And God came to Balaam by night, and said to him, “If these men have come to call you, arise and go with them; but you shall do what I tell you.”
21 So Balaam got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.
22 God’s anger burned because he went, and the angel of the Lord stood in the road to oppose him. He was riding on his donkey, and two of his servants were with him.
23 The donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, and the donkey turned off the road and went into the field. So Balaam beat the donkey to make her return to the road.
24 But the angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path between vineyards, with a wall on either side.
25 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, she pressed herself against the wall and pressed Balaam’s foot against it, so he beat her again.
26 The angel of the Lord went on and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn to the right or to the left.

27 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, she lay down under Balaam. Balaam was angry and beat the donkey with his staff.
28 Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times?”
29 Balaam answered the donkey, “Because you have made a fool of me. If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now!”
30 The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey? You have ridden me ever since you acquired me to this day. Have I ever treated you this way?” “No,” he replied.
31 Then the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn in his hand. Balaam bowed down and fell facedown.
32 The angel of the Lord said to him, “Why have you beaten your donkey these three times?” “Behold, I have come out to oppose you, for your way is perverse in my sight.
33 The donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, I would have killed you also by now, but I would have spared her.”
34 Then Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned, for I did not know that you stood before me in the way. But now, if it displeases you, I will turn back.”
35 And the angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Go with these men, but speak only the word that I tell you.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
36 When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, at the edge of his territory.
37 And Balak said to Balaam, “Did I not send for you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?”
38 Balaam answered Balak, “Here I am, I have come to you, but can I say anything at all? I will speak only the word that God puts in my mouth.”
39 So Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-huzoth.
40 Balak slaughtered oxen and sheep and sent Balaam and the princes who were with him.
41 The next day, Balak took Balaam and brought him up to Bamoth-baal, and from there he saw the nearest of the people.
1 Balaam said to Balak, “Build me seven altars here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”
2 Balak did as Balaam had said, and Balaam and Balak offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
3 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand by your burnt offering while I go over. Perhaps the Lord will meet me, and whatever he reveals to me I will tell you.” So he went to a bare hill.
4 God met Balaam, and Balaam said to him, “I have prepared seven altars, and on each altar I have offered a bull and a ram.”
5 The Lord put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, “Go back to Balak and tell him this.”
6 So he went back to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, he and all the princes of Moab.
7 So he took up his parable and said: “Balak, king of Moab, brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east. ‘Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, denounce Israel!
’ 8 Why should I curse whom God has not cursed? And why should I denounce whom the Lord has not denounced?
9 From the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him; behold, a people dwelling securely, and not reckoned among the nations.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright, and let my end be like theirs.”
11 Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you here to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them.”
12 He answered and said, “Should I not take care to speak what the Lord puts in my mouth?”
13 Then Balak said, “Please come with me to another place from where you will see them; you will only see the ones closest to you, not all of them, and from there you will curse them for me.”
14 So he took him to the plain of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
15 Then he said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering, while I go to God there.”
16 The Lord met Balaam and put a word in his mouth, saying, “Go back to Balak and tell him this.”
17 So he went to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. Balak asked him, “What has the Lord said?”
18 Then he took up his parable and said, “Balak, stand up and listen; Listen to my words, son of Zippor:
19 God is not human, that he should lie, nor a human being, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?
20 Behold, I have received a command to bless; he has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
21He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, nor has he seen perversity in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is within him.

22 God brought them out of Egypt; he has strength like a wild ox.
23 For there is no enchantment against Jacob, nor divination against Israel. As now, it will be said of Jacob and of Israel, “What God has done!”
24 Behold, the people rise up like a lion, and like a lion they stand up; they will not lie down until they devour the prey and drink the blood of the slain.
25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “Since you will not curse him, do not bless him either.”
26 Balaam answered and said to Balak, “Did I not tell you that whatever the Lord tells me, that I must do?”
27 So Balak said to Balaam, “Come, let me take you to another place; perhaps it will please God if you curse him from there.”
28 So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, which overlooks the wilderness.
29 Then Balaam said to Balak, “Build me seven altars here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams here.”
30 So Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
1 When Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go, as at the first and second time, to seek omens, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
2 And lifting up his eyes, he saw Israel encamped by their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.
3 Then he took up his parable and said: “The word of Balaam son of Beor, the word of the man whose eyes are open,
4 the word of him who heard the words of God, who saw the vision of the Almighty, falling down with his eyes open:
5 How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, your dwellings, O Israel!
6 They spread out like streams, like gardens beside a river, like aloes planted by the Lord, like cedars beside the waters.
7 Water will flow from his hands, and his descendants will be abundant waters. His king will be higher than Agag, and his kingdom will be exalted.
8 God brought him out of Egypt; he has the strength of a wild ox.” He will devour the enemy nations, break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.
9 He crouches down like a lion, like a lioness—who dares rouse him? Blessed are those who bless you, and cursed are those who curse you. The prophecy of Balaam
10 Then Balak’s anger burned against Balaam, and he clapped his hands together and said to him, “I called you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them these three times!
11 Now flee to your place; I said I would honor you, but behold, the Lord has withheld honor from you.”
12 And Balaam said to him, “Did I not also tell your messengers whom you sent to me, saying,
13 ‘ If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord to do either good or evil of my own accord, but whatever the Lord speaks, that I will say’?
14 Behold, I am going to my people; therefore come, I will show you what this people will do to your people in the latter days.”
15 And he took up his parable and said, “The word of Balaam the son of Beor, the word of the man whose eyes are open;
16 He who hears the words of the Lord, and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down with his eyes open, says:
17 “I will see him, but not now; I will behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob, and a scepter will rise out of Israel; it will crush the temples of Moab and destroy all the sons of Sheth.
18 Edom will be taken, Seir also will be taken by its enemies, and Israel will act with valor.”

19 From Jacob will come a ruler, and he will destroy what is left of the city.
20 When he saw Amalek, he used his parable and said: “Amalek was the leader of the nations, but in the end he will perish forever. ”
21 When he saw the Kenite, he used his parable and said: “Your dwelling place is strong; make your nest in the rocks.
22 For the Kenite will be driven out when Assyria carries you off captive. ”
23 Again he used his parable and said: “Alas! Who will live when God does these things?
24 Ships will come from the coast of Kittim and attack Assyria; they will attack Eber also, but he too will perish forever.”
25 Then Balaam got up and went back to his place, and Balak also went his way.
1 While Israel was staying in Shittim, the people began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women.
2 These women invited the people to the sacrifices to their gods, and the people ate the sacrifices and bowed down to them.
3 So the people joined themselves to Baal-peor, and the anger of the Lord burned against Israel.
4 The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and hang them before the Lord in broad daylight, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.”
5 Then Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you must put to death those of your people who have joined themselves to Baal-peor.”
6 Now one of the Israelites came and brought a Midianite woman to his brothers in the sight of Moses and all the Israelites, as they wept at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
7 When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw this, he got up from the assembly, took a spear in his hand,
8 and went after the Israelite man into the tent. He thrust the spear through both of them—the Israelite man and the woman—so that the plague was stopped.
9 Twenty-four thousand Israelites died in the plague.
10 Then the Lord said to Moses,
11 “Phineh son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites because he was so zealous for them. In my zeal I did not destroy them.
12 Therefore tell them, ‘I am establishing my covenant of peace with him.
13 He and his descendants after him will have a perpetual covenant of priesthood, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.’”
14 The name of the man who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, a leader of a family in the tribe of Simeon.
15 The name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi daughter of Zur, a leader of the peoples, a head of a family in Midian.

16 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
17 Harass the Midianites, and strike them down,
18 because they afflicted you with their schemes with which they deceived you concerning Baal-peor, and concerning Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was killed on the day of the plague because of Baal-peor.
1 After the plague, the Lord spoke to Moses and Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, saying,
2 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community, from twenty years old and upward, by their ancestral houses—all who are able to serve in Israel.”
3 So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke to them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan River across from Jericho, saying,
4 «Count the people from twenty years old and upward, as the Lord commanded Moses and the Israelites who had come out of Egypt.

52 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
53 “ To these men the land shall be divided as an inheritance, according to the number of their names.
54 To the larger you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller one a smaller inheritance; each shall receive his inheritance according to those numbered.
55 But the land shall be divided by lot, and they shall inherit according to the names of their ancestral tribes.

60 To Aaron were born Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
61 But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord.
62 Of the Levites, twenty-three thousand were counted, all males a month old and above; because they were not numbered among the children of Israel, since they were not to be given an inheritance among the children of Israel.
63 These are the ones numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the Israelites in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho.
64 But none of those numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the Israelites in the wilderness of Sinai, were among these.
65 For the Lord had said of them, “They shall die in the wilderness.” And not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
1 The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the clan of Manasseh son of Joseph, came. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
2 They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and all the congregation at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said,
3 “Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among those who rebelled against the Lord in Korah’s group, but died in his own sin, and he had no children.
4 Why should our father’s name be cut off from his clan because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.”
5 So Moses brought their case before the Lord.
6 The Lord answered Moses, saying,
7 “The daughters of Zelophehad are right; You shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and you shall transfer their father’s inheritance to them.
8 And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: When a man dies without sons, you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
9 If he has no daughter, you shall give his inheritance to his brothers;
10 and if he has no brothers, you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
11 And if his father has no brothers, you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative of his lineage, and it shall belong to him; and this shall be a statute of judgment for the children of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Go up to this Mount Abarim, and see the land I have given to the Israelites.
13 After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron was gathered.
14 For you rebelled against my command in the Wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, by not honoring me as holy in the waters before their eyes.” (This is the waters of the strife at Kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin.)
15 Then Moses answered the Lord, saying,
16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

17 Let him go out before them and come in before them, let him lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.
18 And the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand on him;
19 You shall set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their presence.
20 You shall bestow some of your authority on him, so that all the congregation of the children of Israel may obey him.
21 He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, and he shall inquire of him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, he and all the children of Israel with him, and all the congregation.
22 So Moses did as the Lord had commanded him; he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.
23 He laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “ Command the Israelites and tell them: ‘My offering, my food, my offerings made by fire as a pleasing aroma to me, you shall keep and present to me at its appointed time.’
3 And you shall say to them, ‘This is the offering made by fire that you shall present to the Lord: two lambs without blemish, a year old, each day, as a regular burnt offering.
4 You shall offer one lamb in the morning and the other lamb at twilight,
5 and a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter of a hin of beaten olive oil as a grain offering.
6 It is a regular burnt offering, which was ordained at Mount Sinai as a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord.
7 Its drink offering shall be a quarter of a hin with each lamb; you shall pour out a drink offering of the best wine before the Lord in the sanctuary.
8 You shall offer the second lamb at twilight; According to the morning offering and according to its drink offering you shall offer, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
9 On the Sabbath day, you shall offer two year-old lambs without blemish, and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering, with its drink offering.
10 This is the burnt offering for each Sabbath, besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
11 At the beginning of your months you shall offer as a burnt offering to the Lord two young bulls, one ram, and seven year-old lambs without blemish;
12 and three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering with each bull; and two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering with each ram;
13 and one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering with each lamb; a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, an offering made by fire to the Lord.
14 And their drink offerings of wine, half a hin with each bull, and a third of a hin with each ram, and a quarter of a hin with each lamb. This is the burnt offering for each month throughout the months of the year.
15 And one male goat as a sin offering shall be offered to the Lord, in addition to the regular burnt offering with its drink offering.

16 But on the fourteenth day of the first month is the Lord’s Passover.
17 On the fifteenth day of this month is the festival; for seven days unleavened bread is to be eaten.
18 On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no ordinary work.
19 You shall present as a burnt offering to the Lord two young bulls, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old; they shall be without blemish.
20 Their grain offering shall be of flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah with each bull, two-tenths with each ram,
21 and one-tenth with each of the seven lambs.
22 You shall also offer one male goat as a sin offering, to make atonement for you.
23 These you shall offer in addition to the morning burnt offering, which is the regular burnt offering.
24 Accordingly, every one of the seven days you shall offer a food offering and a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord; it shall be offered in addition to the regular burnt offering, with its drink offering.
25 On the seventh day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work.
26 Moreover, on the day of the firstfruits, when you present a new offering to the Lord in your weeks, you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work.
27 And you shall offer as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord, two young bulls from the herd, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old;
28 and their grain offering shall be fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths for each ram,
29 and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs;
30 and one male goat to make atonement for you.
31 You shall offer them, besides the regular burnt offering, with their grain offerings and their drink offerings; they shall be without blemish.
1 On the first day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work; it shall be a day for you to sound the trumpets.
2 You shall offer a burnt offering as a pleasing aroma to the Lord: one young bull, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old without blemish;
3 and their grain offering of fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths for each ram,
4 and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs;
5 and one male goat as a sin offering to make atonement for you,
6 besides the burnt offering of the month and its grain offering, the regular burnt offering and its grain offering, and their drink offerings, according to its statutes, as an offering made by fire to the Lord, a pleasing aroma.
7 On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves; you shall do no work;
8 You shall offer as a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma: one young bull, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old; they shall be without blemish.
9 Their grain offering shall be of fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths for each ram,
10 and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs;
11 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the sin offering, the regular burnt offering, their grain offerings, and their drink offerings.
12 On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work, and you shall keep a solemn assembly to the Lord for seven days.
13 You shall offer as a burnt offering, an offering made by fire to the Lord, a pleasing aroma: thirteen young bulls, two rams, and fourteen male lambs a year old; they shall be without blemish.
14 Their grain offerings were of fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two-tenths for each of the two rams,
15 and one-tenth for each of the fourteen lambs;
16 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering.
17 On the second day, twelve bulls from the herd, two rams, fourteen yearling lambs without blemish,

20 On the third day, eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen yearling lambs without blemish;

22and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering.
23 On the fourth day, ten bulls, two rams, fourteen yearling male lambs without blemish;

34 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, with its grain offering and its drink offering.
35 On the eighth day you shall have a solemn assembly; you shall do no customary work.
36 And you shall offer as a burnt offering, as an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the Lord, one bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish;
37 their grain offerings and drink offerings with the bull, the ram, and the lambs, according to their number, as prescribed by the law;
38 and a male goat for a sin offering, besides the regular burnt offering, with its grain offering and its drink offering.
39 These you shall offer to the Lord at your appointed feasts, besides your vow offerings, your freewill offerings, your burnt offerings, your grain offerings, your drink offerings, and your peace offerings.
40 And Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that the Lord had commanded him.
1 Moses spoke to the leaders of the tribes of Israel, saying, “This is what the Lord has commanded:
2 When anyone makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he has vowed.
3 But if a woman makes a vow to the Lord or binds herself by a pledge while she is young,
4 and her father hears of her vow and the pledge by which she has bound herself, and he remains silent about it, then all her vows will stand, and every pledge by which she has bound herself will stand.
5 But if her father forbids her on the day he hears of it, all her vows and the pledge by which she has bound herself will not stand, and the Lord will forgive her, because her father has forbade it.
6 But if she is married and makes a vow or utters something by which she binds herself,
7 If her husband hears of it, and when he hears of it remains silent, then her vows shall stand, and the oath by which she bound herself shall stand.
8 But if when her husband hears of it he forbids her, then the vow she made, and what she uttered with her lips by which she bound herself, shall be void; and the Lord will forgive her.
9 But every vow of a widow or divorced woman, by which she binds herself, shall stand.
10 And if she has made a vow in her husband’s house, and has bound herself with an oath,
11 and her husband hears of it, and remains silent and does not forbid her, then all her vows shall stand, and every oath by which she bound herself shall stand.
12 But if her husband annuls them on the day he hears of them, then everything that proceeded from her lips concerning her vows, and concerning the oath of her soul, shall be void; her husband annulled them, and the Lord will forgive her.
13 Every vow, and every oath that binds oneself to afflict the soul, her husband shall confirm it, or her husband shall annul it.

14 But if her husband remains silent about it from day to day, then he has confirmed all his vows and all the obligations that are upon her; he has confirmed them, because he remained silent about it on the day he heard it.
15 But if he cancels them after he has heard them, then he will bear her iniquity.
16 These are the ordinances that the Lord commanded Moses concerning a husband and his wife, and concerning a father and his daughter during her youth in her father’s house.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “Take vengeance for the Israelites on Midian, and afterward you will be gathered to your people.”
3 So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm some of yourselves for war and go against Midian to take the Lord’s vengeance on Midian.
4 Send a thousand men from each tribe of all the tribes of Israel to the war.”
5 So they were given from the thousands of Israel, a thousand from each tribe, twelve thousand ready for battle.
6 And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand from each tribe. Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest went to the war with the vessels of the sanctuary and with the trumpets in his hand to blow them.
7 And they fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and they killed every male.
8 Among the slain they also killed were the kings of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
9 The Israelites took captive the Midianite women, their children, all their livestock, and all their possessions.
10 They burned all their cities, villages, and dwellings.
11 They took all the plunder and all the spoil, both of man and of beast.
12 They brought the captives, the plunder, and the spoil to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the whole Israelite community, and to the camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan River across from Jericho.
13 Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the community went out outside the camp to meet them.
14 Moses was angry with the commanders of the army, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds who had returned from the war.
15 He said to them, “Why have you spared all the women?
16 Because of Balaam’s advice, these women led the Israelites to transgress against the Lord in the matter of Baal-peor, so that a plague struck the Lord’s assembly.
17 Now therefore, kill every male child, and kill every woman who has had sexual relations with a man.
18 But spare all the young women who have not had sexual relations with a man.
19 As for you, whoever has killed anyone or touched a dead body, stay outside the camp for seven days. Purify yourselves on the third and seventh days, both you and your captives.”
20 You shall also purify every garment, and every garment of skins, and every work of goats’ hair, and every utensil of wood.
21 Then Eleazar the priest said to the fighting men who had returned from the battle, “This is the ordinance of the law that the Lord commanded Moses:
22 “ All the gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, and lead—
23 everything that can withstand fire—you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean. But it must be purified with the waters of purification, and everything that cannot withstand fire you shall pass through the water.
24 You shall also wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean; after that you may come into the camp.”
25 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
26 “ Take a census of the plunder that has been taken, both of people and of animals, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the families of the congregation;
27 and divide the plunder in half between those who fought and those who went out to war and all the congregation.
28 And you shall set apart for the LORD the tribute of the men of war who went out to war; out of five hundred, one, both of the people and of the oxen, of the donkeys and of the sheep.

29 From half of them you shall take it and give it to Eleazar the priest as an offering to the Lord.
30 From the half belonging to the Israelites, take one out of every fifty people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and all kinds of livestock, and give them to the Levites, who are in charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
31 So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
32 The spoil, the rest of the spoil taken by the fighting men, was 675,000 sheep,
33 72,000 cattle,
34 and 61,000 donkeys.
35 As for the people, the women who had not known a man, there were 32,000 in all.
36 The half, the portion of those who had gone out to war, was 337,500 sheep;
37 and the offering of the sheep for the Lord was 675.
38 Of the cattle, thirty-six thousand; and of these, the tribute for the Lord, seventy-two.
39 Of the donkeys, thirty thousand five hundred; and of these, the tribute for the Lord, sixty-one.
40 And of the people, sixteen thousand; and of these, the tribute for the Lord, thirty-two.
41 And Moses gave the tribute, as a wave offering to the Lord, to Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses.
42 And of the half for the children of Israel, which Moses set apart from the men who had gone to war
43 (the half for the congregation was: of the sheep, three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred;
44 of the cattle, thirty-six thousand;
45 of the donkeys, thirty thousand five hundred;
46 and of the people, sixteen thousand);
47 So Moses took one out of every fifty people and animals from the half for the Israelites and gave them to the Levites, who were in charge of the tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
48 The commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds came to Moses,
49 and said, “Your servants have taken a census of the fighting men under our command, and not one is missing.
50 Therefore, we have offered to the Lord an offering, each man of what he found: gold jewelry—bracelets, bracelets, rings, earrings, and chains—to make atonement for ourselves before the Lord.”
51 Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold jewelry from them, all of it crafted.
52 All the gold of the offering that the commanders of thousands and of hundreds presented to the Lord was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
53 The men of the army had taken plunder for themselves, each one for himself.
54 So Moses and Eleazar the priest received the gold from the commanders of thousands and of hundreds and brought it into the tent of meeting as a memorial offering for the Israelites before the Lord.
1 The Reubenites and the Gadites had a very large herd of livestock. They saw the land of Jazer and Gilead, and it seemed to them suitable for livestock.
2 So the Gadites and the Reubenites came and spoke to Moses, Eleazar the priest, and the leaders of the congregation, saying,
3 “ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo, and Beon—
4 the land the Lord struck down before the congregation of Israel—is suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”
5 Therefore they said, “If we find favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as an inheritance, and do not make us cross the Jordan.”
6 Moses answered the Gadites and the Reubenites, “Shall your brothers go to war, and you remain here?”
7 Why do you discourage the Israelites from going over to the land the Lord has given them?
8 This is what your ancestors did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land.
9 They went up to the Wadi Eshcol, and when they had seen the land, they discouraged the Israelites from going over to the land the Lord had given them.
10 Then the Lord’s anger burned, and he swore,
11 “ No man twenty years old or more who came up out of Egypt will see the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they did not follow me wholeheartedly—
12 except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, who followed the Lord wholeheartedly.”
13 So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation that had done evil in the Lord’s sight was gone.
14 And behold, you have succeeded your ancestors, you offspring of sinful men, adding even more to the anger of the Lord against Israel.
15 If you turn away from following him, he will again abandon you in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people.
16 Then they came to Moses and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock and cities for our little ones.
17 We will arm ourselves and go diligently before the Israelites until we have brought them into their place. Our little ones will remain in fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.
18 We will not return to our homes until the Israelites have each received their inheritance.
19 For we will not receive an inheritance with them beyond the Jordan or beyond, because our inheritance will be on this side of the Jordan to the east.”
20Then Moses answered them, “If you do this, if you are ready to go before the Lord to war,
21 and all of you cross the Jordan armed before the Lord, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,
22 and the land is subdued before the Lord, then you may return and be free from guilt before the Lord and before Israel, and this land will be your inheritance before the Lord.
23 But if you do not do this, then you will have sinned before the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.
24 Build cities for your children and sheepfolds for your flocks, and do what you have promised.”
25 The Gadites and Reubenites spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do as my lord has commanded.”

26 Our children, our wives, our livestock, and all our animals will be there in the cities of Gilead;
27 And your servants, all armed for war, shall go forward before the Lord to battle, as my lord commands.
28 Then Moses gave commands to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua son of Nun, and to the leaders of the ancestral tribes of the children of Israel.
29 Moses said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites cross over with you across the Jordan, all of them armed for war before the Lord, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead as their possession.
30 But if they do not cross over armed with you, then they shall possess the land of Canaan among you.”
31 The Gadites and Reubenites answered, “We will do as the Lord has said to your servants.
32 We will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, and our inheritance will be on this side of the Jordan.”
33 So Moses gave to the Gadites, the Reubenites, the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land with its cities and territories, and the surrounding towns.
34 The Gadites built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35 Ataroth-zophan, Jazer, Jogbeha,
36 Beth-nimrah, and Beth-aran fortified cities; they also made sheepfolds.
37 The Reubenites built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38 Nebo, Baal-meon (their names were changed), and Sibmah; and they gave names to the cities they built.
39 The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and drove out the Amorites who were in it.
40 Moses gave Gilead to Machir son of Manasseh, and he lived there.
41 Jair son of Manasseh also went and captured its villages and called them Havoth-jair.
42 Nobah also went and captured Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah after himself.
1 These are the journeys of the Israelites who went out of Egypt by their divisions, under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
2 Moses recorded their journeys according to the commands of the Lord. These are their journeys according to their journeys.
3 They set out from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month, on the second day of the Passover, with a mighty hand, in the sight of all the Egyptians.
4 The Egyptians were burying all the firstborn among them whom the Lord had struck dead; the Lord had also executed judgment on their gods.
5 So the Israelites set out from Rameses and camped at Succoth.
6 They left Succoth and camped at Etham, which is on the edge of the wilderness.
7 They left Etham and returned to Pi-hahiroth, which is before Baal-zephon, and camped before Migdol.
8 They left Pi-hahiroth and crossed through the sea into the wilderness, and traveled three days’ journey in the Wilderness of Etham, and camped at Marah.
9 They left Marah and came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they camped there.
10 They left Elim and camped by the Red Sea.
11 They left the Red Sea and camped in the Wilderness of Sin.
12 They left the Wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah.
13 They left Dophkah and camped at Alush.
14 They left Alush and camped at Rephidim, where the people had no water to drink.
15 They left Rephidim and camped in the Wilderness of Sinai.
16 They left the Wilderness of Sinai and camped at Kibroth-hattaavah.
17 They left Kibroth-hattaavah and camped at Hazeroth.
18 They left Hazeroth and camped at Rithmah.
19 They left Rithmah and camped at Rimmon-perez.
20 They left Rimmon-perez and camped at Libnah.
21 They left Libnah and camped at Rissah.
22 They left Rissah and camped at Zeelathah.
23 They left Zeelathah and camped at Mount Sepher.
24 They left Mount Sepher and camped at Haradah.
25 They left Haradah and camped at Makhneth.
26 They left Makhneth and camped at Tahath.
27 They left Tahath and camped at Tarah.
28 They left Tarah and camped at Mithcah.
29 They left Mithcah and camped at Hashmonah.
30 They left Hashmonah and camped at Moseroth.
31They left Moseroth and camped at Bene-jaakan.
32 They left Bene-jaakan and camped at Mount Gidgad.
33 They left Mount Gidgad and camped at Jotbathah.
34 They left Jotbathah and camped at Abronah.
35 They left Abronah and camped at Ezion-geber.
36 They left Ezion-geber and camped in the Wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.
37 And they left Kadesh and camped at Mount Hor, at the edge of the land of Edom.
38 So Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor, according to the word of the Lord, and he died there in the fortieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, on the first day of the fifth month.
39 Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40 Now the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard that the children of Israel had come.

41 They left Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42 They left Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
43 They left Punon and camped at Oboth.
44 They left Oboth and camped at Ije-abarim, on the border of Moab.
45 They set out from Ije-abarim and camped at Dibon-gad.
46 They set out from Dibon-gad and camped at Almon-diblathaim.
47 They set out from Almon-diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo.
48 They set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
49 Finally, they camped by the Jordan, from Beth-jeshimoth to Abel-shittim, in the plains of Moab.
50 The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, saying,
51 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you have crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
52 you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images, all their cast images, and tear down all their high places.
53 Drive out the inhabitants of the land and settle in it, for I have given it to you to possess.
54 You will divide the land among your families by lot. To the larger families you will give a large inheritance, and to the smaller families you will give a smaller inheritance. Wherever the lot falls, there each person will get their inheritance. You will inherit according to the tribes of your ancestors.”
55 If you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain will be thorns in your eyes and pricks in your sides, and they will harass you in the land where you live.
56 I will do to you as I planned to do to them.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “ Command the Israelites and tell them: ‘When you enter the land of Canaan, the land you are to inherit, the land of Canaan according to its boundaries,
3 your southern border will extend from the Desert of Zin to the border of Edom. Your southern border will run east from the eastern edge of the Dead Sea.
4 This border will run around you from the south to the Ascent of Akrabbim, then on to Zin. From the south, it will extend to Kadesh-barnea, then continue to Hazar-adar, and then on to Azmon.
5 From Azmon, this border will run around to the Wadi of Egypt, and its ends will be on the west.
6 The western border will be the Mediterranean Sea; this will be your western border.
7 Your northern border will be east: from the Mediterranean Sea, you will draw a line to Mount Hor.’”
8 From Mount Hor you shall draw a boundary line to the entrance of Hamath, and it shall continue to Zedad.
9 Then the boundary line shall continue to Ziphron, and it shall end at Hazar-enan; this shall be your northern boundary.
10 Your eastern boundary line shall run from Hazar-enan to Shepham.
11 From Shepham the boundary line shall go down to Riblah, east of Ain; then the boundary line shall go down and reach the coast of the Sea of Chinnereth on the east.
12 After that, the boundary line shall go down to the Jordan, and it shall end at the Dead Sea. This shall be your land with its boundaries all around.
13 And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, “This is the land which the Lord commanded to be allotted to the nine tribes and the half-tribe as an inheritance by lot;
14 For the tribe of the Reubenites, according to their ancestral houses, and the tribe of the Gadites, according to their ancestral houses, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance.
15 Two and a half tribes received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, across from Jericho, toward the east, toward the rising of the sun.
16 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
17 These are the names of the men who will divide the land among you: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.
18 You shall also take a prince from each tribe to give them the possession of the land.
19 These are the names of the men: From the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
20 from the tribe of Simeon, Shemuel son of Ammihud;
21 from the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad son of Kishon.

22 From the tribe of Dan, Prince Bukki son of Jogli.
23 From the descendants of Joseph: from the tribe of Manasseh, Prince Haniel son of Ephod,
24 and from the tribe of Ephraim, Prince Kemuel son of Shiphtan.
25 From the tribe of Zebulun, Prince Elizaphan son of Parnak.
26 From the tribe of Issachar, Prince Paltiel son of Azzan.
27 From the tribe of Asher, Prince Ahiud son of Shelomi.
28 And from the tribe of Naphtali, Prince Pedael son of Ammihud.
29 These the Lord commanded to divide the inheritances among the Israelites in the land of Canaan.
1 The Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, saying,
2 “Command the Israelites to give the Levites cities to live in from their inheritance. You are also to give the Levites the pasturelands surrounding these cities.
3 They will have the cities to live in, and the pasturelands will be for their livestock, their herds, and all their animals.
4 The pasturelands of the cities you are giving to the Levites will extend 1,000 cubits around the city wall.
5 Measure 2,000 cubits outside the city on the east side, 2,000 cubits on the south side, 2,000 cubits on the west side, and 2,000 cubits on the north side, with the city in the middle. These will be their pasturelands.”
6 Of the cities you will give to the Levites, six will be cities of refuge, which you will give so that the manslayer may flee there; and besides these, you will give forty-two other cities.
7 In all the cities you will give to the Levites, there will be forty-eight cities with their pasturelands.
8 As for the cities you will give from the inheritance of the Israelites, from those who have much, you will take much, and from those who have little, you will take little; each one will give some of his cities to the Levites according to the amount of his inheritance.
9 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
10 “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you have crossed over from the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
11 you shall designate cities for yourselves as cities of refuge, where anyone who kills another person unintentionally may flee.
12 These cities shall be places of refuge for you from the avenger, and the person who kills another shall not die until they stand trial before the assembly.
13 Of the cities you designate, you shall designate six cities of refuge.
14 Designate three cities on this side of the Jordan and three cities in the land of Canaan as cities of refuge.
15 These six cities shall be places of refuge for the Israelites and for the foreigner residing among them, so that anyone who kills another person unintentionally may flee there.
16 If someone strikes another with an iron weapon and they die, they are a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.”
17 If someone strikes a person with a stone in their hand that can cause death, and they die, they are a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.
18 If someone strikes a person with a wooden weapon in their hand that can cause death, and they die, they are a murderer; the murderer shall be put to death.
19 The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death; when they find them, they shall kill them.
20 If someone pushed a person out of hatred, or threw something on them by ambush, and they died;
21 or if someone struck a person with their hand out of enmity, and they died, the one who struck them shall be put to death; they are a murderer; the avenger of blood shall kill the murderer when they find them.
22 But if he accidentally pushed him without enmity, or threw any instrument upon him without ambush,
23 or, without seeing him, caused some stone to fall upon him that could kill him, and he died, and he was not his enemy, nor sought his harm;

24 Then the congregation shall judge between the one who caused the death and the avenger of blood according to these laws.
25 The congregation shall deliver the manslayer from the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall bring him back to his city of refuge, where he had taken refuge. He shall remain there until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
26 But if the manslayer goes outside the boundaries of his city of refuge, where he took refuge,
27 and the avenger of blood finds him outside the boundaries of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he shall not be held guilty of it.
28 He shall remain in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. After the death of the high priest, the manslayer may return to his own land.
29 These things shall be a statute and ordinance for you throughout your generations, in all your dwellings.
30 Whoever kills a person, the manslayer shall be put to death on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness shall not bring a charge against a person to put him to death.
31 You shall not accept a ransom for the life of a manslayer, for he is condemned to death; he shall surely be put to death.
32 Nor shall you accept a ransom for one who has fled to his city of refuge, to allow him to return to live in his land until the death of the high priest.
33 You shall not defile the land where you live, for this blood will defile the land, and the land cannot be made clean for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of him who shed it.
34 Therefore do not defile the land where you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I, the Lord, dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.
1 The heads of the ancestral houses of Gilead son of Machir, son of Manasseh, of the clans of the sons of Joseph, came and spoke before Moses and the leaders, the heads of the ancestral houses of the Israelites.
2 They said, “The Lord commanded my lord to give the land to the Israelites as an inheritance by lot. The Lord also commanded my lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters.
3 If these daughters marry any of the sons of the other tribes of Israel, their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our ancestors and added to the inheritance of the tribe they marry. It will be taken from our portion of inheritance.
4 When the Israelites celebrate their Jubilee, their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe of their husbands. Their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our ancestors.”
5 Then Moses commanded the Israelites according to the Lord’s word, saying, “The tribe of the sons of Joseph speaks rightly.
6 This is what the Lord has commanded concerning the daughters of Zelophehad: ‘Let them marry as they please, but they must marry within the clan of their father’s tribe,
7 so that the inheritance of the Israelites will not be passed from tribe to tribe, for each of the Israelites will remain connected to the inheritance of his ancestral tribe.’
8 Any daughter who has an inheritance among the tribes of the Israelites must marry someone from her father’s clan, so that each of the Israelites will possess the inheritance of their ancestors,
